Teacher Education for Mathematical Modeling: a Case Study (수학적 모델링의 구현을 위한 교사 교육: 사례 연구)

  • Mathematical modeling has been emphasized because it offers important opportunities for students to both apply their learning of mathematics to a situation and to explore the mathematics involved in the context of the situation. However, unlike its importance, mathematical modeling has not been grounded in typical mathematics classes because teachers do not have enough understanding of mathematical modeling and they are skeptical to implement it in their lessons. The current study analyzed the data, such as video recordings, slides, and surveys for teachers, collected in four lessons of teacher education in terms of mathematical modeling. The study reported different kinds of tasks that are authentic with regards to mathematical modeling. Furthermore, in teacher education, teachers' identities have separated a mode as learners and a mode as teachers and conflicts and intentional transition were observed. Analysis of the surveys shows what teachers think about mathematical modeling with their understanding of it. In teacher education, teachers achieved different kinds of modeling tasks and experience them which are helpful to enact mathematical modeling in their lessons. However, teacher education also needs to specifically offer what to do and how to do it for their lessons.

  • The purpose of this study is to detect the possibility of the development of conception of a graph and the formula with the absolute value through context questions, and also to investigate the effectiveness of the each step of the mathematical modeling activities in helping students to have the conception. The research was conducted to analyze the process of development of the mathematical conception by applying the mathematical modeling activities two times to subjects of two academic high school students in the first grade. The results of the study are as follows: Firstly, the subjects were able to comprehend the geometric conception of the absolute value and to make the graph and the formula with the sign of the absolute value by utilizing the condition of the question. Secondly, the researcher set five steps of the intentional mathematical model in order to arouse the effective mathematical notion and each step performed a role in guiding the subjects through the mathematical thinking process in consecutive order; consequently, it was efficacious in developing the conception.

  • Integration of CAM and CAM information is important in the CIM era. For a CIM system, the feature representation can be a solution to the integration of product model data. These are geometry feature, functional feature, and manufacturing feature in the feature context. This paper proposes a framework to integrate the configuration design method, parametric modeling and the feature modeling method. The concept of design unit which is one level higher than functional feature and parametric modeling concept with functional features have been proposed.

  • There is a growing tendency to consider organizational learning as a mechanism for improving organizations and the rate at which organizations learn becomes perceived as a source for attaining competitive advantage. The objective of this research is to present a two-phase(learning efficient, and learning-effective) organizational modeling methodology based on the cognitive-maps and agents concept, and to describe how the result of the modeling can be used in the organizational learning context.

  • In this study, we proposed Context Cube as a conceptual model of user context, and a Multi-modal Interaction Design framework to develop ubiquitous service through understanding user context and analyzing correlation between context awareness and multi-modality, which are to help infer the meaning of context and offer services to meet user needs. And we developed a case study to verify Context Cube's validity and proposed interaction design framework to derive personalized ubiquitous service. We could understand context awareness as information properties which consists of basic activity, location of a user and devices(environment), time, and daily schedule of a user. And it enables us to construct three-dimensional conceptual model, Context Cube. Also, we developed ubiquitous interaction design process which encloses multi-modal interaction design by studying the features of user interaction presented on Context Cube.

  • Recently, with the development of ubiquitous computing, the study and development about context awareness models is required for the application of ubiquitous environment. This paper presents the design and implementation of a matrix based context awareness model for vehicle environment. The matrix construction method using 5W1H and CAM (Context Awareness Model) expression is proposed for context awareness modeling. The system with the proposed model is implemented by Zigbee modules for the recognition of individual identification and position and a navigator for current spatial and temporal information of GPS. The result of experiments shows that the proposed model is available.

A Study of Requirements Elicitation and Specification for Context-Aware Systems (컨텍스트 인지 시스템을 위한 요구사항 도출 및 명세화 방법)

  • Even though context is the most important feature in context-aware systems, the existing requirements engineering cannot support methodology for elicitation and specification of contexts. In this paper, we propose a requirements elicitation method and a requirements specification method for context-aware systems. Our requirements elicitation method is a 6-stepped, incremental, and iterative process. At the beginning steps in the process, we identify the requirements for business logic. Afterwards, we gather the requirements for context logic, model contexts, and identify subsystems. For requirements specification, we suggest a context-aware use case diagram, a context diagram for context modeling, and a context-type-use-case-dependency diagram for the traceability of use cases on the change of context types. We also introduce a case study that we apply our approaches to a real system, and a qualitative evaluation of our approaches. Our study will help stakeholders to efficiently elicit requirements for context-aware systems and to specify them clearly.

  • 전자책은 기존 종이 문서에 비하여 다양한 기능 및 장점을 제공할 수 있기 때문에 현재 다양한 연구 및 서비스가 제공되고 있다. 또한 전자책 환경에서의 정보 공유 및 검색과 같은 다양한 활용을 위해서는 반드시 Annotation 지원이 가능하여야 하며 이에 대한 정확한 Annotation 정의가 요구된다. Annotation이란 일반적으로 문서의 주제 및 내용에 관한 해설, 설명, 그리고 강조를 목적으로 추가되는 문장 또는 텍스트를 의미한다. 그러나 기존 전자책 환경에서의 Annotation과 관련된 연구에서는 이에 대한 심도있는 연구 결과가 미비한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 전자책 환경을 위한 Context 기반 Annotation Modeling을 정의하고 이를 활용한 인터페이스를 제안한다. 현재 전자책 환경은 대부분 XML에 기반하고 있으며 이에 본 논문에서는 구조정보와 컨텐츠, 그리고 Annotation간의 관계 및 이를 활용하기 위한 모델링을 제시한다. 또한 모델링 정보를 이용한 다양한 장점 및 환용이 가능한 시스템을 구현하였다. 그 결과 본 연구에서는 기존 연구와는 달리 Context 기반 Annotation의 정확한 정의가 가능하며 이를 활용한 다양한 기능을 제공하는 동시에 앞으로의 응용 가능성을 제시하고 있다.

Modeling and Implementation of Context based Annotation for XML Documents

  • This paper proposed context based annotation model and annotation ambiguity correction methods. The proposed model provides various annotation types, semantic models, and pen-based free drawing interface. Annotation correction method that is specifically based on the context which includes various textual and structure information between free-form marking and annotation. Also, interface for XML environment using the proposed model and correction methods is proposed and possibilities of application is looked at. The results from the implementation of the proposed method show that the annotated areas included in the free-form marking information are more accurate, achieving more accurate exchange results amongst multiple users in a heterogeneous document environment

A Study on the Lossless Image Compression using Context based Predictive Technique of Error Feedback (에러 피드백의 컨텍스트 기반 예측기법을 이용한 무손실 영상 압축에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the wavelet transform based lossless image compression algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm transforms the input image using 9/7 ICFB and S+P filter, and eliminates the spacious correlation of the subband coefficients, applying the context modeling predictive technique based on the multi-resolution structure and the feedback of the prediction error. The prediction context exploits the subordination and direction property of the different level subband in the vertical, horizontal, and diagonal subband coefficients. The simulation result of the high frequency images such as PEPPERS, BOAT, and AIRPLANE shows that the proposed algorithm efficiently predicts the edge area of each multi-resolution subband.
