This paper proposes a new backoff scheme to improve the throughput of stations over wireless local area networks. It is designed to carry out the proposed backoff scheme using information of basic service area, such as number of stations, in terms of the throughput. Basic idea of the proposed backoff scheme is that we change the contention window size for backoff time as collisions increase. We evaluate the performance of the proposed backoff scheme using Markov model analysis and compare it with the IEEE 802.11e backoff scheme. The numerical results indicate that the Proposed backoff scheme may offer better performance than the conventional backoff scheme in terms of the throughput.

The proposed technique uses cyclic frame structure, where three periods such as beacon period (BP), mesh contention access period (MCAP) and slotted period (SP) are in a data frame. This paper studies on a mechanism to allow communication nodes (6lowpan) in a PAN with different logical channel for global healthcare applications monitoring technology. The proposed super framework structure system has installed 6lowpan sensor nodes to communicate with each other. The basic idea is to time share logical channels to perform 6lowpan sensor node. The concept of 6lowpan sensor node and various biomedical sensors fixed on the patient BAN (Body Area Network) for monitoring health condition. In PAN (hospital area), has fixed gateways that received biomedical data from 6lowpan (patient). Each 6lowpan sensor node (patient) has IP-addresses that would be directly connected to the internet. With the help of IP-address service provider can recognize or analyze patient data from all over the globe by the internet service provider, with specific equipments i.e. cell phone, PDA, note book. The NS-2.33 result shows the performance of data transmission delay and data delivery ratio in the case of hop count in a PAN (Personal Area Networks).

Inter-vehicular communication suffers from a variety of the problem on the road, resulting in large delay in propagating emergency warning. An energy depletion as well as a transmission delay may induced by traffic accident. A transmission delay are caused by direct contention from nodes that can hear each other or indirect contention from nodes that can not hear each other, but simultaneously transmit to the same destination. A variety of works have been researched to solve the transmission delay and energy consumption problem in intelligent cars transportation systems. We consider a vehicle-to-vehicle communication protocol for disseminating an emergency information that include end-to-end and energy efficient transmission. In this paper, we propose A vehicle-to-vehicle communication protocol scheme for dissemination emergency information in intelligent cars communication based on IEEE 802.15.3 wireless personal area networks. Results from a simulation study reveal that our scheme can achieves low latency in delivering emergency warnings, and efficiency in consuming energy in stressful road scenarios.

For transmitting sensed data, wireless sensor networks have been developed and researched for the improvement of energy efficiency, hence, many MAC protocols in WSN employ the duty cycle mechanism. Since the progressed development of the low power transceiver and processor let the high energy efficiency come true, the delivery of the multimedia data which occurs in area of sensor work should be needed to provide supplemental information. In this paper, we design a new scheme for massive transmission of large multimedia data where the duty cycle is used in contention based MAC protocol, for WMSN. The proposed scheme can be applied into the previous duty cycle mechanism because it provides two operation between normal operation and massive transmission operation. Measuring the buffer status of sender and the condition of current radio channel can be criteria for the decision of the above two operations. This paper shows the results of the experiment by performing the simulation. The target protocol of the experiment is X-MAC which is contention based MAC protocol for WSN. And two approaches, both X-MAC which operates only duty cycle and X-MAC which operates combined massive transmission scheme, are used for the comparative experiment.

The contention resolution algorithm with the limited packet delay time as well stable distribution as the packet delay time is proposed and implementes for improving the mean packet delay time in the network employing CSMA/CD as the access method. The implementation of node controller is based on IEEE 802.2 standard logical link control(LLC) and IEEE 802.3 standard medium access control(MAC). Some portion of IEEE 802.3 Standard MAC, and the Binary Exponential Back-off(BEB) algorithm is replaced by the proposed algorithm. From the view of normalized mean packet transmission delay time, the controller implemented here can be applicable to the office-automation system, and the factory-and laboratory-automation environment where the limited time criterion is very significant.

In the near future, it is expected that there will be billions of connected devices using fifth generation (5G) network services. The recently available base stations (BSs) need to mitigate their loads without changing and at the least monetary cost. The available spectrum resources are limited and need to be exploited in an efficient way to meet the ever-increasing demand for services. Device to Device communication (D2D) technology will likely help satisfy the rapidly increasing capacity and also effectively offload traffic from the BS by distributing the transmission between D2D users from one side and the cellular users and the BS from the other side. In this paper, we propose to apply D2D overlay communication with cognitive radio capability in 5G networks to exploit unused spectrum resources taking into account the dynamic spectrum access. The performance metrics; throughput and delay are formulated and analyzed for CSMA-based medium access control (MAC) protocol that utilizes a common control channel for device users to negotiate the data channel and address the contention between those users. Device users can exploit the cognitive radio to access the data channels concurrently in the common interference area. Estimating the achievable throughput and delay in D2D communication in 5G networks is not exploited in previous studies using cognitive radio with CSMA-based MAC protocol to address the contention. From performance analysis, applying cognitive radio capability in D2D communication and allocating a common control channel for device users effectively improve the total aggregated network throughput by more than 60% compared to the individual D2D throughput without adding harmful interference to cellular network users. This approach can also reduce the delay.
Wireless local area networks have known an increasing popularity during the past few years. However, as new user applications diverge from the traditional data-centric model, the introduction of efficient, QoS aware medium access methods becomes of utmost importance. EY-NPMA is a medium access protocol belonging to the contention paradigm that provides support for service differentiation and low collision rates. In this paper, we address a shortcoming of EY-NPMA as indicated by previous studies, namely the insensitivity of the protocol to different working conditions. In this work, we study and evaluate a mechanism that allows a network employing EY-NPMA to adapt its operating parameters according to the offered load. Simulation studies further document and confirm the positive characteristics of the proposed mechanism.

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are becoming increasingly important to solve the issue of health care. IEEE 802.15.6 is a wireless communication standard for WBANs, aiming to provide a real-time and continuous monitoring. In this paper, we present our development of a modified Markov Chain model and a backoff model, in which most features such as user priorities, contention windows, modulation and coding schemes (MCSs), and frozen states are taken into account. Then we calculate the normalized throughput and average access delay of IEEE 802.15.6 networks under saturation and ideal channel conditions. We make an evaluation of network performances by comparing with IEEE 802.15.4 and the results validate that IEEE 802.15.6 networks can provide high quality of service (QoS) for nodes with high priorities.

Priority MAC is an important issue in every communication system when we consider differentiated service applications. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to support priority MAC based on multi-parameters for IEEE 802.15.7 visible light communication (VLC). By using three parameters such as number of backoff times (NB), backoff exponent (BE) and contention window (CW), we provide priority for multi-level differentiated service applications. We consider beacon-enabled VLC personal area network (VPAN) mode with slotted version for random access algorithm in this paper. Based on a discrete-time Markov chain, we analyze the performance of proposed mechanism under non-saturation environments. By building a Markov chain model for multi-parameters, this paper presents the throughput and transmission delay time for VLC system. Numerical results show that we can apply three parameters to control the priority for VLC MAC protocol.

This paper considers WiMedia UWB network based wireless ship area network (WSAN) so as to support high-quality multimedia video data services and important shipboard control data. In this paper, prioritized contention access (PCA) and distributed reservation protocol (DRP) based on WiMedia UWB (ECMA-368) MAC protocols are combined and proposed to support mixed high-quality video traffic and shipboard control data traffic applying varying DRP and PCA data periods according to channel condition and link parameter ptimization. It is shown that the proposed dynmaic channel allocation of WiMedia UWB MAC protocol can provide reliable mixed video and shipboard control data traffic as well.
