  • Contemporary architecture has shown interest in surface after breaking off the relation with structure. Also, the development of contemporary media has brought the great change to the surface of architecture. Interaction among the people, architecture, and environment is also the main point of interest in adapting the role of media to the architecture. But contemporary media itself have been applied on surface in architecture lately. So, it is purpose of the study to analyze the contemporary media characteristics application on the surfaces of EXPO pavilions based on the related characteristics of interaction effects. The categories and the contents for the frame of case studies were arranged through document research and field study. Case studies were focused on the pavilions of the World Exposition Shanghai China 2010. Surface can make the interaction between human and architecture more dramatically by the application the role of media. It was analyzed through the study that the interaction level of people is the important issue shared in digital or analog media application on surface of pavilion. The complementary relationship between surface of contemporary architecture and contemporary media can be manipulated and enriched by the application of various style of media on surface.

  • The purpose for this paper is to categorize and analyze the aesthetic characteristics of graphic factors in contemporary fashion design by media source. Focused on play-instinct visual expression in contemporary fashion design and adopted media source following the way of communication design. A variety of literatures and online sites for graphic factors in contemporary fashion was studied. The standard of media source is classified as graphic media-source: photography media-source, typography media-source, illustration media-source. With this standard, expressed ways are as followings. First, graphic media-source in play-instinct expressional fashion design is mostly borrowing existed character or using designer's brand logo. Second, photography media-source in play-instinct expressional fashion design is placed photograph of social issued people in front of shirt. Third, typography media-source in play-instinct expressional contemporary fashion design is mostly expressed social messages or designer's name in brand. Fourth, illustration media-source is the best way to express play-instinct visual expression. Based on these, aesthetic characteristics of graphic factor in contemporary fashion by media source are classified as three: social words, playfulness and information transference. Frequency ratio using media source per aesthetic characteristics is different and these are able to categorize expression way and image feature. In conclusion, expressional way of graphic factors in contemporary fashion design became diverse as social and cultural changing. Frequency of graphic factor use in contemporary fashion is increased than before. This paper suggested that fashion design is one of the way of communicating with people and should be analyzed graphic factors in contemporary fashion design.

빛과 감각을 중심으로 한 현대 스파(Spa) 디자인의 치유 공간 구현에 관한 연구 (A Study on Space of Healing focused on Light and Sense in Contemporary Spa Design)

  • In contemporary society, spa has become one of the important healing spaces. As the present urban life has been more and more complex and competitive, space of recreation and healing are dramatically increased in terms of its number as well as location. In the past, there were three kinds of spa visitors. The first was the people who visited spas for medical reasons. The second was the people who visited spas for leisure and refreshment. The third was for social gatherings like in the ancient Rome. In present time, these three reasons are mixed together. As the spa program became rich and various, visitors tends to seek an appropriate spa environment that suits their needs. This is the main background for contemporary spa designs. In any case, concept of healing has been always the core element in spa. Light and sense have vital role to make a unique spa design. This paper aims to study different light and sense applications in contemporary spa designs. Specific focus is to find how light and sense in spa designs act to create a healing environment. 4 spa projects built in Europe after 2000 were selected and were analyzed based on the 4 light and sense characteristics. In conclusion, case analysis was summarized to suggest future possibilities.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze expression of pluralism in contemporary fashion. This study has three parts. They are to understand the concept of pluralism, to find the fashion environments of pluralism in terms of politics, economics, sociality, culture, science, and art, and to analyze expression of pluralism in contemporary fashion. The concept of pluralism in contemporary fashion is the diversity and compounds of fashion images. The environments of pluralism in contemporary fashion are multinational economic system, virtual world of internet. mass-culture and postmodern art. And expression of pluralism in contemporary fashion is analyzed into publicity. Publicity is expressed by using things of common lifestyle and the past that people used to and are well-known. Horizontality is expressed by coordination of male-female facts and property-poorness without high or low concept. Multi-nation is expressed by mixing various kind of national characteristics and Virtuality is expressed by layering and collaging complex facts that are not connected each other.

  • All vague and constructions of contemporary cultural environment have been reorganized and the relationship between people and culture can't follow development speed of rapid material civilization development and being informationalized. Because of the circumstances, physical environment is changing into other cultural environment, existence of human being is at a crisis. Physical value precedes mental value and rapid changing causes culture lag. Modernism design of 20th century suggested standard, simplicity and mass production methods, but nowaday, as human being complexity is increasing, information-media are needed to satisfy that. Namely usual design thoughts have to be changed because our life is surrounded by many kinds of powerful media sings and various mixed cultural circumstances. People predict that the characteristics of new ages are 'Immateriality', 'Sensoriality', 'multimedia'. Amongst them, medial spatial characteristics will be eventually remarkable in commercial space which is coincided with economic logic and multilateral culture. This study is a focus on commercial space which emphasis contemporary medial characteristics and observes medial meaning and various technique through some experimental works in Korea. Also this study's purpose is to examine design directions which correspond with contemporary Korea culture.

Inclusive Innovation in India: Contemporary Landscape

  • The essence of inclusive innovation is to serve poor, marginalized and underprivileged sections of society to improve their livelihoods and enable them to climb up the socio-economic ladder. In this article, we explore the contemporary Indian landscape. There is a diversity of institutions and institutional approaches, multiple methodologies and goals in promoting inclusive innovations in this landscape. There are grassroots innovation institutions. All these institutions and groups have demonstrated how to improve the living conditions of poor people and enhance their income. They have developed different methodologies of inclusive innovation to intervene, build capacities and capabilities of poor people towards bridging informal and formal sectors of economy. Indian landscape can now boast of some successful models and a "social laboratory" for inclusive innovation. The challenge, however, remains to replicate and multiply these models to impact other sectors of Indian informal economy.

현대가구에 내재된 장식의 역할 - 장인의 솜씨/기술 - (Role of the Ornament in Contemporary Furniture - From Craftsmanship -)

  • This study explored roles of the ornament in contemporary furniture that contemporary furniture designers make their furniture different, convey a metaphorical message, and competitive. Contemporary furniture involved in the ornament is decorative, beautiful, and characterized by craftsmanship through eclecticism and pluralism reestablished in furniture design in the postmodern era. Also, the ornament has been presented in the context of the blurring of art/craft distinctions. Thus, the contemporary furniture is called as art furniture/craft furniture which is diverse from minimal decoration to maximal decoration. Hence, by using all of the ornamental context, the furniture designers try to satisfy and communicate with the largest possible number of people, and have numerous opportunities to select according to their characteristics or taste. Finally, their furniture in the futuristic mode may be cross-cultural work that everybody in the earth can understand, enjoy, and appreciate in his/her daily space through his/her everyday use.

현대무용공연 선택속성이 관람태도와 티켓구매의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Selection Attributes of Contemporary Dance Performance on Audience's Attitude and Tickets Purchase Intention)

  • 본 연구는 현대무용관람객의 선택속성을 선행연구를 바탕으로 구성하고, 현대무용공연 관람 경험이 있는 관람객을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 이후 탐색적 요인분석을 통해 현대무용공연의 선택속성을 규명하였으며, 이에 물리적 증거, 티켓, 사람, 정보, 작품, 명성 이라는 6가지 속성이 도출되었다. 이 속성을 바탕으로 티켓구매행동에 영향을 주는지 알아보기 위해 '확장된 계획적 행동이론'을 통하여 선택속성이 관람태도와 티켓 구매의도에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다. 그 결과, 현대무용공연의 선택속성 중에서는 명성, 사람, 작품의 세 가지 속성이 관람태도에 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤으며, 티켓구매의도에는 작품과 사람속성만이 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 티켓구매의도에 설명력을 높이기 위한 확장된 계획행동이론의 변수 중에서는 주관적 규범을 제외한, 관람태도와 지각된 행동통제, 사전지식이 티켓구매의도에 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 이에 본 연구는 현대무용공연의 티켓구매의도를 향상시킬 수 있는 관람객 중심의 선택속성을 제시하고 실증적으로 확인하였다는 것에 의의가 있다.

현대 미인에 나타난 노자적 미학의 표현양상: 화장품 광고를 중심으로 (Contemporary Beauty Expressions from the Perspective of Lao-tzu's Philosophy: Focusing on Cosmetics Advertisement)

  • The aim of this study is to examine the patterns of expressing contemporary beauty from the perspective of Laotzu's philosophy in order to suggest its concept and characteristics and to suggest specific cases through cosmetics advertisement. In doing so, the study attempted to understand that contemporary beauty is more humanistic and liberal in terms of expression patterns than in any other time period. The research results are as below. The frame concept of Laotzu's philosophy includes 1. Naturalness, 2. coexistence in Conflict, and 3. Non-otherness. The characteristics of contemporary beauty are natural and healthy, People can foresee changing beauty by the cycle of life and, by admitting this philosophy, people can understand one's individuality and discover self-esteemed beauty. Also, the results from the cases of cosmetics advertisement are as below: 1. Naturalness was remarkable. Such phenomenon was common in representative brands of the research subjects. Expression pattern was based on soft, natural make-up and hair style. 2. For conflict and coexistence, they introduced the ancient image of the situation, and the situational image using food and herbs demonstrated a functional, situational image, which was used for the cosmetics advertisement based on the mutual coexistence concept instead of dichotomy of period or material. 3. Non-otherness advertisement, of which there was none, we expected that maximized marketing effect would be achieved if non-otherness cosmetics advertisement expressed the contemporary beauty because it could solicit sympathy form many consumers.

현대 복식에 표현된 투명디자인의 조형성 (Plasticity of Transparent Design Expressed in Contemporary Fashion)

  • This study was intended to investigate the contemporary meaning of transparent design expressed in contemporary fashion by inquiring into its plasticity expressed in contemporary design and fashion and analyzing the association between them. It used the comparative anesthetic method widely used by H. W lfflin and other scholars in eliciting the differences and similarities in styles. It attempted to investigate the plasticity of transparent design expressed in contemporary design by dividing it into the epidermal, spatial and ideological effects. Contemporary design expressed the epidermal effects such as lightness(nimbleness), smoothness, contrast and stress It expressed the spatial effects such as spatial flexibility through the interpenetration of interior and exterior spaces, expansion of the space and the like. And it expressed ideological effects such as openness, pureness, playfulness and the like. In terms of lightness, contemporary design expressed actual or visual lightness by using transparent materials. In terms of the interpenetration of interior and exterior spaces, it expressed the interpenetration of the interior space into the exterior spaces and vice versa. In terms of spatial expansion, contemporary design expressed the infinite spatial connection by drawing the exterior space into the interior space. Contrast and stress were formed by imposing visual unity on contemporary fashion by using opaque and transparent materials. In terms of openness, contemporary design expressed contemporary people's candor and dependability by making the inside of the building or object look outward. To express pureness, contemporary design used the clear and transparent image by using the glass or translucent materials taking on the pure property. To express playfulness, contemporary made use of the vagueness of the spatial boundary, the locational switching of inner and outer spaces, and interesting external forms occurring when light pass through opaque and transparent materials.
