Performance Evaluation of the Next Generation Stevedoring System at Container Terminal (컨테이너 터미널의 차세대 하역시스템 성능평가)

  • This study aims at newly constructing and evaluating performance of the stevedoring equipment systems in terminals. The stevedoring equipments used in conventional terminals are insufficient in flexibility in their functions or design structure, and most of the stevedoring systems based on such equipments have conventional design, therefore, limited in improving the productivity of terminals both in performance and functionality. The stevedoring equipment systems in terminals, in general, can be subdivided into 4 subsystems of quay, transportation, yard, and gate system, which carry out loading and unloading works with proper facilities and equipments. In this study, a design of next generation stevedoring equipment system comprised of various stevedoring equipments which have superior performance and functionalities to the conventional equipments was proposed, and its performance was evaluated.

A Study to Solve Empty Container Return Problems in Gyeongin Province - Focusing on Uiwang ICD and Incheon Port - (경인지역 내 효율적인 공 컨테이너 반납처리 방안 연구 - 의왕ICD와 인천항을 중심으로 -)

  • The decreasing number of import and export containers is causing a problem with container circulation. In particular, this problem has reached a serious level in the Gyeongin area. Empty containers are accumulating in the Gyeongin container yard, where most of the returned containers are stored. In order to improve the empty container return problem at Gyeonhin, this study analyzes the actual situation and the empty container return process. A preference survey was conducted to suggest solutions from the perspective of users rather than shippers. A logistics company's data was analyzed to identify the inefficient cost structure in the Gyeongin area. The results show that the empty container return problem in Gyeongin is becoming more and more serious. To solve this problem, this paper proposes reestablishing functions at the Incheon Port, and securing a third new storage terminal in the Gyeongin area. Finally, an efficient empty container circulation system is presented. It will also be necessary to prepare laws and institutions to ensure these solutions.

Multi-step Predictive Control of LMTT using DR-FNN

  • In the maritime container terminal, LMTT (Linear Motor-based Transfer Technology) is horizontal transfer system for the yard automation, which has been proposed to take the place of AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle). The system is based on PMLSM (Permanent Magnetic Linear Synchronous Motor) that is consists of stator modules on the rail and shuttle car (mover). Because of large variant of mover's weight by loading and unloading containers, the difference of each characteristic of stator modules, and a stator module's trouble etc., LMCPS (Linear Motor Conveyance Positioning System) is considered as that the system is changed its model suddenly and variously. In this paper, we will introduce the soft-computing method of a multi-step prediction control for LMCPS using DR-FNN (Dynamically-constructed Recurrent Fuzzy Neural Network). The proposed control system is used two networks for multi-step prediction. Consequently, the system has an ability to adapt for external disturbance, cogging force, force ripple, and sudden changes of itself.

  • 컨테이너 터미널 간의 치열한 경쟁, 대형 선박의 출현, 컨테이너 터미널 운영의 자동화 등으로 인해서 세계 각국에서는 많은 컨테이너 터미널들을 건설 중이다. 컨테이너 터미널의 건설에는 아주 많은 시간과 비용이 소요되기 때문에 컨테이너 터미널을 효율적으로 설계하는 것이 필수적이다. 본 연구는 컨테이너 터미널의 엔지니어링 프로세스를 지원하기 위해서 개발된 소프트웨어 시스템 TODAY(Terminal Optimization, Design, and Analysis sYstem)에 대해 다루고자 한다. 먼저 설계 프로세스를 제안하였다. 설계 프로세스는 데이터 입력, 능력 소요 계산, 대안 설계, 대안 평가, 결과 출력으로 구성된다. 대안을 신속히 설계하고 평가하기 위해서 컨테이너 터미널 전용 라이브러리가 개발되었다. 라이브러리는 Wharf, Yard, TravellingArea, Gate로 구성된다. 라이브러리의 구조는 객체 지향적으로 설계하여 확장성과 재사용성을 가지게 하였다. 시스템은 사용자에게 친숙한 인터페이스와 CAD 환경을 제공하여, 다양한 유형의 컨테이너 터미널 모형들이 데이터 입력과 라이브러리 구성요소의 조합에 의해 구성될 수 있도록 지원한다. 생성된 대안 모형들은 시뮬레이션과 경제성 모형에 의해 평가된다. 시스템은 생성된 모형을 시뮬레이션 모형으로 자동 변환하는 기능을 제공한다. 피드백 과정을 거쳐서 최종적으로 사용자의 요구사항을 만족시키는 대안이 제시된다.

  • Many changes lie ahead for Korea both domestically and internationally including opening of Busan New Port, more active Gwangyang Port as well as rapid growth of Shanghai Port and enhanced services and productivity at Shenzen Port. Compared to newer ports, Busan Port possesses old equipment and facilities. Therefore, in order for Busan Port to maintain its service level and remain competitive and productive, it needs to undergo remodeling to enhance productivity. Such remodeling activities should be implemented on a continual basis by developing and applying new technologies such as those for gate system, berth system, yard system, and IT system Therefore, this study is conducted the introduction. of remodeling concept, the status of Busan Port, and the technical review of remodeling.

A Heuristic Algorithm of an Efficient Berth Allocation for a Public Container Terminal (공공 컨테이너 터미널의 효율적인 선석할당을 위한 발견적 알고리즘 개발에 관한 연구)

  • As the suitability of berth allocation will ultimately have a significant influence on the performance of a berth, a great deal of attention should be given to berth allocation. Generally, a berth allocation problem has conflicting factors between servers and users. In addition, there is uncertainty in great extent caused by various factors such as departure delay, inclement weather on route, poor handling equipment, a lack of storage space, and other factors contribute to the uncertainty of arrival and berthing time. Thus, it is necessary to establish berth allocation planning which reflects the positions of interested parties and the ambiguity of parameters. For this, a berth allocation problem is formulated by fuzzy 0-1 integer programming introducing the concept of maximum Position Shift(MPS). But, the above approach has limitations in terms of computational time and computer memory when the size of problem is increased. It also has limitations with respect to the integration of other sub-systems such as ship planning system and yard planning system. For solving such problem, this paper focuses particularly on developing an efficient heuristic algorithm as a new technique of getting an effective solution. And also the suggested algorithm is verified through the illustrative examples and empirical appalicaton to BCTOC.

A Heuristic Approach to Scheduling Multiple Cranes for Intra-Block Remarshalling (복수 크레인을 활용한 블록 내 컨테이너 이적 계획)

  • Intra-block remarshalling is the task of rearranging into some target bays those containers which are scattered within around the block. If multiple transfer cranes installed in the block are all used together we may be able to complete the remarshalling task as early as possible. However, when multiple cranes are used simultaneously, there may occur significant delays if we do not carefully consider interferences between the cranes at the time of scheduling. Especially, delays caused by interferences occur more frequently in case of using non-crossing cranes. This paper presents an efficient heuristics method for assigning moves of containers to each crane and for determining an appropriate container moving order in a manner sensitive to the interferences. Simulation experiments have shown that the proposed method can effectively reduce delays in various environments.

  • One of the important performance measure for productivity at container terminals is the working productivity in the quay. working scheduling of quay cranes (QCs) gives a significant impact on the quay working productivity. The recent managers of the terminals pay high interests in equipment investment and operation methods with a new concept in order to enhance the quay working productivity. The double cycle or dual cycle, which is a method to increase the quay productivity with no application of new equipment, but with the change of operations, has been received strong attention in academic research. The majority of studies until this time has been realized the quay work as the bottleneck and focused on those works. However, if the QCs do notver, it the Cs d-trotver,(CT) if t the Cs, there would be the pos ibilf tes that the effectiveness of them is decreasedveaused by the longer, if t the Cs. Thus, this paper, suggests the solutions on the con th scheduling for the dual cycle operation considering the YT.
