A Close Contact Tracing Method Based on Bluetooth Signals Applicable to Ship Environments

  • There are still outbreaks of COVID-19 across the world. Ships increase the risk of worldwide transmission of the virus. Close contact tracing remains as an effective method of reducing the risk of virus transmission. Therefore, close contact tracing in ship environments becomes a research topic. Exposure Notifications API (Application Programming Interface) can be used to determine the encountered location points of close contacts on ships. Location points of close contact are estimated by the encountered location points. Risky areas in ships can be calculated based on the encountered location points. The tracking of close contacts is possible with Bluetooth technology without the Internet. The Bluetooth signal can be used to judge the proximity among detecting devices by using the feature that Bluetooth has a strong signal at close range. This Bluetooth feature makes it possible to trace close contacts in ship environments. In this paper, we propose a method for close contact tracing and showing the risky area in a ship environment by combining beacon and Exposure Notification API using Bluetooth technology. This method does not require an Internet connection for tracing close contacts and can protect the personal information of close contacts.

Prospective Diary Survey of Preschool Children's Social Contact Patterns: A Pilot Study

  • Purpose: This pilot study aimed to describe children's social contact patterns and to analyze factors related to their social contacts. Methods: The participants were 30 children aged ≥13 months to <7 years, whose teachers at childcare centers and parents at home were asked to maintain diaries of their social contacts prospectively for 24 hours. Data were collected from November 30, 2018, to January 7, 2019. Results: The 30 participating children were in contact with 363 persons in a 24-hours period (mean, 12.1±9.1). The number of contacts showed significant relationships with day of the week (p<.001), number of family members/cohabitants (p=.015), area of residence (p=.003), and type of housing (p=.002). A multiple regression model showed significantly higher numbers of contacts on weekdays (B=10.64, p=.010). Physical versus non-physical types of contact showed significant differences in terms of duration, location, and frequency (p<.001). The duration of contacts showed significant relationships with their location and frequency (p<.001), while the frequency of contacts was significantly related to their location (p<.001). Conclusion: This is the first survey describing the characteristics of Korean preschool children's social contacts. Further large-scale social contact studies of children should be conducted.

폐결핵환자 접촉자에서 결핵감염의 빈도와 결핵감염의 위험인자 (Prevalence and Risk Factors for Mycobacterium tuberculosis Infection among Contacts of Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients)

  • Background: Detection and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) infection with contact investigation is a key component of TB control program. I evaluated the prevalence and risk factors for TB infection among contacts of recently diagnosed pulmonary TB patients in a tertiary hospital in Korea. Methods: 206 contacts of 90 adult pulmonary TB patients underwent tuberculin skin tests (TST) and chest radiography. The TST results were considered positive with an induration of 10 mm or more, suggesting TB infection. A standardized questionnaire was used to assess risk factors associated with TB infection. Results: TST was positive in 97 of 206 contacts of TB patients (47.1%) and positive rate of TST increased with age. The risk of TB infection was significantly associated with close contact with TB patients (sleeping in the same room) (odd ratio [OR], 4.94; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.43~17.00). Conclusion: TB infection rate was higher in the elderly, and the risk of TB infection was significantly increased with close contact of TB patients.

Development of a Social Contact Survey Instrument Relevant to the Spread of Infectious Disease and Its Application in a Pilot Study Among Korean Adults

  • Objectives: This study aimed to develop a valid social contact survey instrument and to verify its feasibility for use among Korean adults. Methods: The Delphi technique was used to develop an instrument to assess social contacts, which was then applied in a cross-sectional pilot study. A panel of 15 medical professionals reviewed the feasibility and validity of each item. The minimum content validity ratio was 0.49. Thirty participants used the developed measure to record contacts during a 24-hour period. Results: After a systematic review, the survey instrument (parts I and II) was developed. Part I assessed social contact patterns over a 24-hour period, and part II assessed perceptions of contacts in daily life and preventive behaviors (hand hygiene and coughing etiquette). High validity and feasibility were found. In the pilot study, the 30 participants had a combined total of 198 contacts (mean, 6.6 daily contacts per person). The participants' age (p=0.012), occupation (p<0.001), household size (p<0.001), education (p<0.001), personal income (p=0.003), and household income (p<0.001) were significantly associated with the number of contacts. Contacts at home, of long duration, and of daily frequency were relatively likely to be physical. Assortative mixing was observed between individuals in their 20s and 50s. Contact type differed by location, duration, and frequency (p<0.001). Conclusions: The developed social contact survey instrument demonstrated high validity and feasibility, suggesting that it is viable for implementation.

Social Contact Patterns Associated With Tuberculosis: A Case-control Study in Southwest Iran

  • Objectives: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health concern worldwide. Social contact patterns can affect the epidemiology and risk of airborne diseases such as TB. This study was designed to investigate the social contact patterns associated with TB. Methods: In this case-control study, groups of participants with and without TB were matched by age and sex. Participants reported the nature, location, frequency, and average duration of social contacts over 1 month. The duration and number of social and spatial contacts were compared between groups using the chi-square test and the t-test. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to quantify the relationship between social contact time and TB status. Data were analyzed using Stata version 11 statistical software. A p-value of <0.05 was considered to indicate statistical significance. Results: In this study, 80 patients with TB and 172 control participants were included, and a total of 3545 social contacts were registered. Social contact with family members (OR, 1.72; 95% CI, 1.10 to 2.40), contact with a person with TB (OR, 1.53; 95% CI, 1.16 to 2.01), and contact at the participant's home (OR, 1.42; 95% CI, 1.19 to 1.82) were significantly associated with TB status. Conclusions: The duration of long-term social contact, rather than the number of contacts, may be the main contact-related factor associated with TB transmission in this population. The focus of contact-tracing efforts should be on finding and treating both family members and long-term contacts in non-household settings.

감염병의 사람 간 전파의 주요 수단인 사회적 접촉 연구에 관한 체계적 문헌 고찰 (Systemic Review of Social Contacts of Person to Person Spread of Infections)

  • 현대 의학의 눈부신 발전에도 불구하고 감염병의 유행 발생과 전파는 지속적으로 인류를 위협하고 있으며, 이러한 감염병의 사람 간 전파는 사회적 접촉에 의한다. 그러나 사회적 접촉에 관한 국내 연구는 초기 단계다. 본 연구에서는 체계적 문헌 고찰을 통해서 각국의 사회적 접촉의 실태를 파악하여 국내 연구를 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 문헌 선정기준은 2000년 이후부터 2017년 12월까지 영어로 발표된 전국적인 규모의 사회적 접촉 논문 12편을 최종선정하였다. 후향적 접촉일지(7건, 58.3%), 무작위 추출법(9건, 75%)을 연구방법으로 가장 많이 이용하고 있었으며, 접촉자 수는 4.9명-17.7명/일, 주중에 주말보다 더 많았으며, 매일 만나는 관계에 있는 사람과 주로 접촉하였고, 신체적 접촉은 가정 내에서 빈번하였다. 접촉 빈도가 가장 높은 연령은 5-19세로 감염병 유행 발생 시에는 이 연령층에 의한 감염전파가 우려된다고 볼 수 있다. 특히 동질성혼합(assortative mixing)은 5-20세 군에서 높아 이 연령층은 동일한 연령대와의 접촉으로 인한 감염전파 가능성이 큼을 시사하므로 이 연령층에 대한 감염 예방대책이 필요함을 보여주고 있었다. 그러므로 국내에서도 새로운 감염병 또는 재유행 감염병의 발생이나 관리의 정확한 예측을 위해서 국내 기반의 사회적 접촉양상을 파악하여, 이를 기초로 국내 감염병 유행 발생의 예측과 감염 예방대책 수립이 이루어져야 할 것이다.

  • COVID-19 사태를 비롯하여 인류는 지속적인 바이러스 감염에 노출되고 있고 감염자를 신속하게 격리하고 접촉자를 추적하여 감염 확산을 방지를 위한 노력이 진행되고 있다. 연락을 통해 확진자 접촉을 확인하는 수동적인 역학조사는 정확성과 신속성 측면에서 한계가 있어 다양한 디지털 기술을 활용한 자동적인 추적 방법이 제안되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 저전력 블루투스 BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) 기술을 활용하여 접촉을 확인하고 RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) 값에 대한 분석과 보정을 통해 밀접 접촉을 식별하는 알고리즘을 제시하고, 중앙집중형 서버 구조의 바이러스 확산을 방지할 수 있는 시스템을 제안하고자 한다.

  • 최근 전염성이 높은 COVID-19 바이러스의 영향으로 접촉자 추적에 사용할 수 있는 시공간 궤적에 대한 중요성이 커지고 있다. 시공간 궤적은 객체가 이동한 시간 및 공간 데이터를 저장한다. 본 논문에서는 이동 객체의 시공간 궤적에 대한 질의 처리를 제안한다. 이동 객체의 시공간 궤적 모델은 위치를 저장하기 위하여 포인트 형태의 공간 데이터를 가지고 타임스탬프 형태의 시간 데이터를 가진다. 궤적 질의는 같은 버스에 탑승하여 서로 밀접하게 접촉한 사용자들의 쌍을 검색하는 질의이다. 궤적 질의를 처리하기 위하여 데이터셋으로는 마이크로소프트의 Geolife 데이터를 사용한다. 제안된 궤적 질의 처리는 궤적 데이터를 날짜별로 나누고 각 날짜에 대해 사용자의 궤적들이 근처에 있었는지 검사하고 접촉자들에 대한 정보를 결과로 생성한다.

With-Corona 시대에 프라이버시 보호 기반의 확진자 접촉 여부 알림 시스템 설계 (Design of a Privacy-based Confirmed Case Contact Notification System in the With-Corona Era)

  • 현재, Covid-19의 밀접접촉자를 찾아내어 진단검사를 통해 Covid-19 확산을 차단하고 있다. 하지만 확진자의 잠복 기간이 2주가 되고, 확진자의 동선을 추적하여 접촉자를 찾기에 많은 인력과 시간, 비용이 소요된다. 특히, 확진자의 수가 증가할수록 접촉자를 찾아 사전에 차단하는 비용이 기하급수적으로 증가하여 한계점을 가진다. 접촉자를 찾기 위해 전 국민이 상점이나 식당 등 편의시설을 방문할 때마다 전자출입명부를 기록해야 하는데 이는 개인의 위치 정보에 대한 프라이버시 침해 가능성이 높다. 본 연구에서는 자신의 위치와 시간을 실시간으로 저장하고, KDCA에서 수집된 감염자의 동선 정보를 다운받아 겹치는 지점이 있을 경우에 사용자에게 통지하여 사전에 진단검사를 유도하는 시스템을 설계하고자 한다. 제안 기법은 상점을 방문할 때 전자출입명부를 기록해야 하는 번거로움을 해결하면서 개인정보를 사전에 KDCA에 제공하지 않아 프라이버시 침해를 차단할 수 있다.

  • The virtual reality - haptic device is developed for the purpose used in the work that human cannot approach and that need elaborate exercises. To render haptic, the total system is constituted master, haptic device, and slave, remote manipulator. Human operates the remote manipulator. Human operates the remote manipulator relying on the hapti devices and stereo graphic. And then the force and scene of the remote manipulator is fed-back from each haptic devices and virtual devices. The feedback information gets system gain exactly. The system gain provides the most exact haptic and virtual devices. The feedback information gets system gain exactly. The system gain provides the most exact haptic and scene to human by the location, the graphic rendering and the haptic rendering algorithm on real-time. In this research, 3D haptic device is developed for common usage and make human feel the haptic when human contacts virtual object rendered by computer graphic. The haptic device is good for tracing location and producing devices because of the row structure. Also, openGL and Visual Basic is utilized to the algorithms for haptic rendering. The haptic device of this research makes the interface possible not only with virtual reality but also with the real remote manipulator.
