A Framework for Designing Closed-loop Hand Gesture Interface Incorporating Compatibility between Human and Monocular Device

  • Objective: This paper targets a framework of a hand gesture based interface design. Background: While a modeling of contact-based interfaces has focused on users' ergonomic interface designs and real-time technologies, an implementation of a contactless interface needs error-free classifications as an essential prior condition. These trends made many research studies concentrate on the designs of feature vectors, learning models and their tests. Even though there have been remarkable advances in this field, the ignorance of ergonomics and users' cognitions result in several problems including a user's uneasy behaviors. Method: In order to incorporate compatibilities considering users' comfortable behaviors and device's classification abilities simultaneously, classification-oriented gestures are extracted using the suggested human-hand model and closed-loop classification procedures. Out of the extracted gestures, the compatibility-oriented gestures are acquired though human's ergonomic and cognitive experiments. Then, the obtained hand gestures are converted into a series of hand behaviors - Handycon - which is mapped into several functions in a mobile device. Results: This Handycon model guarantees users' easy behavior and helps fast understandings as well as the high classification rate. Conclusion and Application: The suggested framework contributes to develop a hand gesture-based contactless interface model considering compatibilities between human and device. The suggested procedures can be applied effectively into other contactless interface designs.

Design of Contactless Gesture-based Rhythm Action Game Interface for Smart Mobile Devices

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to propose the contactless gesture-based interface on smart mobile devices for especially rhythm action games. Background: Most existing approaches about interactions of smart mobile games are tab on the touch screen. However that way is such undesirable for someone or for sometimes, because of the disabled person, or the inconvenience that users need to touch/tab specific devices. Moreover more importantly, new interaction can derive new possibilities from stranded game genre. Method: In this paper, I present a smart mobile game with contactless gesture-based interaction and the interfaces using computer vision technology. Discovering the gestures which are easy to recognize and research of interaction system that fits to game on smart mobile device are conducted as previous studies. A combination between augmented reality technique and contactless gesture interaction is also tried. Results: The rhythm game allows a user to interact with smart mobile devices using hand gestures, without touching or tabbing the screen. Moreover users can feel fun in the game as other games. Conclusion: Evaluation results show that users make low failure numbers, and the game is able to recognize gestures with quite high precision in real time. Therefore the contactless gesture-based interaction has potentials to smart mobile game. Application: The results are applied to the commercial game application.

  • This paper describes tile design and implementation of contact and contactless If card OS(Operating System) for Java Card, namely JCOS(Java Card 05). The JCOS complies with ISO/IEC 7816 and IS0/1EC 14443 standards. The JCOS conforms to Java Card 2.1.2 specifications. The JCOS is running on 32-bit ARMTTDMI with public key crypto-coprocssor. This paper describes only the dual-interface protocol of the JCOS which supports contact and contactless applications in a single chip. The JCOS has been completed with our sample banking service and access control service in ETRI up to now.

Prototyping Training Program in Immersive Virtual Learning Environment with Head Mounted Displays and Touchless Interfaces for Hearing-Impaired Learners

  • The purpose of the study was to identify key design features of virtual reality with head-mounted displays (HMD) and touchless interface for the hearing-impaired and hard-of-hearing learners. The virtual reality based training program was aimed to help hearing-impaired learners in machine operating learning, which requires spatial understanding to operate. We developed an immersive virtual learning environment prototype with an HMD (Oculus Rift) and a touchless natural user interface (Leap Motion) to identify the key design features required to enhance virtual reality for the hearing-impaired and hard-of-hearing learners. Two usability tests of the prototype were conducted, which revealed that several features in the system need revision and that the technology presents an enormous potential to help hearing-impaired learners by providing realistic and immersive learning experiences. After the usability tests of hearing-impaired students' exploring the 3D virtual space, interviews were conducted, which also established that further revision of the system is needed, which would take into account the learners' physical as well as cognitive characteristics.

과업형 챗봇에서 개인화와 담화 종류에 따른 인터페이스의 차이가 수용의도, 만족도에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Personalization and Types of Interface in Task-oriented Chatbot)

  • 4차 산업 혁명과 비대면 서비스의 증가로 과업형 챗봇에 대한 수요와 공급이 증가하고 있다. 효과적인 정보 처리를 돕는 과업형 챗봇으로 사용자들에게 긍정적인 경험을 주기 위해서는 챗봇에서 제시할 정보 및 인터페이스에 대한 가이드라인이 필요하다. 본 연구는 과업형 챗봇의 맥락에서 개인화 및 담화 종류에 따른 인터페이스의 차이가 성과기대, 예상노력, 수용의도 그리고 만족도에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄으로써 추후 개발될 과업형 챗봇에 실무적 도움을 주고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 개인화 수준에 따른 주효과가 수용의도 및 만족도에서 보고되었으며, 닫힌 담화에 한해서 개인화 수준이 낮을 때에 수용의도와 만족도가 더 높은 것이 발견되었다. 본 연구는 과업형 챗봇 내에서 개인화 적용의 이점 및 닫힌 담화 내에서 개인화 수준에 따른 차이를 실증적으로 검증하고 있으며 이를 인지된 개인화, 기대불일치 이론, 프라이버시 염려, 프라이버시 역설에 근거하여 설명하고 있다.

음성결제 인터페이스의 신뢰도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Reliability of Voice Payment Interface)

  • 인공지능 기술이 결제 서비스 분야에도 적극 도입됨에 따라 말로 하는 결제 서비스 '음성결제(Voice Payments)'가 언택트 결제 서비스의 트렌드로 주목받고 있다. 음성결제 서비스는 인간의 가장 자연스러운 소통 수단인 '목소리'를 통해 결제를 더 빠르고 직관적으로 실행할 수 있는 서비스이다. 본 연구에서는 인공지능 에이전트와의 신뢰 형성을 위한 요인으로 '구체성', '친밀감', '자율성'을 선정하였으며, 각 특성들이 음성결제 상황의 음성 인터페이스에 적용되었을 때 이용자의 신뢰가 형성되는지 알아보고자 하였다. 실험 결과 음성결제 인터페이스의 구체성과 자율성은 높을수록, 친밀감은 낮을수록 신뢰가 높아졌다. 또한 구체성과 자율성의 이원상호작용효과가 유의하였다. 수집된 주관식 답변들을 분석 및 종합하여 이용자들이 음성결제 서비스를 접할 때 느끼는 불안 요인들을 파악하고, 음성결제에 대한 신뢰를 높일 수 있는 음성 인터페이스 디자인 방안들을 제안하였다.

A Platform-Based SoC Design of a 32-Bit Smart Card

  • In this paper, we describe the development of a platform-based SoC of a 32-bit smart card. The smart card uses a 32-bit microprocessor for high performance and two cryptographic processors for high security. It supports both contact and contactless interfaces, which comply with ISO/IEC 7816 and 14496 Type B. It has a Java Card OS to support multiple applications. We modeled smart card readers with a foreign language interface for efficient verification of the smart card SoC. The SoC was implemented using 0.25 ${\mu}m$ technology. To reduce the power consumption of the smart card SoC, we applied power optimization techniques, including clock gating. Experimental results show that the power consumption of the RSA and ECC cryptographic processors can be reduced by 32% and 62%, respectively, without increasing the area.

CRM using short range location based technology

  • In this paper, we propose the CRM service model for analyzing and managing location based data collected by Wi-Fi and BLE. As mobile devices became personalized, enterprises became interested in individual location, and location based mobile marketing started to stand on spotlight. Location based proximity marketing is developing along with contactless data transmission technology, and payment system that uses NFC, Beacon that utilizes BLE, as well as advertisement via Wi-Fi are being serviced. We suggest the model that mobile devices can be detected and identified by MAC address with the need of being connected to Wi-FI or Bluetooth interface. MAC addresses are not associated with any specific user account or mobile phone number. The idea is to be able to measure the amount of people which are present in a certain point at a specific time, allowing the study of the evolution of data analysis and offers effective information for decision-makings.

  • An impeller identification technique that is essential for adding viscosity measurement functions to overhead stirrers is presented in this study. Previous studies have revealed that using magnets facing the same poles arranged in a row can aid in distinguishing the types of impellers by detecting the number of magnets in a non-contact manner. However, as these previous studies measured the magnetic fields using analog Hall sensors, a converting circuit for the digital signals is required that can interface with the MCU. In this study, it was demonstrated that the number of magnets can be distinguished without using a separate conversion circuit by using a Hall sensor with a digital output. Owing to the unique hysteresis characteristics of digital Hall sensors, it was confirmed through experiments that the complex and diverse outputs appear depending on the direction of the magnetic field, the arrangement of magnetic poles, and the moving direction of the magnet. The measurement of the magnetic field showed that an edge signal equal to the number of magnets inserted into the impeller was detected when the radial direction was used, and the south pole was first approached.

  • 발전소 내 고압 단자대 및 전력구 케이블 인입부에서 주변 전력기기들의 지속적인 진동 및 순간적인 충격의 발생으로 케이블 단자 또는 접속부 접촉점에 열화가 발생하는 사고가 일어난다. 접촉점에서의 열화 발생은 큰 사고로 이어질 수 있으며 안정적으로 전력을 공급해야 하는 발전소에서는 열화 발생을 예측하기 위한 다양한 연구가 시도되고 있다. 이에 비접촉식 적외선 센서를 이용하여 온도를 측정하는 방식이 있으며 이러한 방식의 궁극적인 목적은 측정하고자 하는 대상체를 최적의 거리에서 감시함으로 접촉점의 열화 발생뿐 아니라 센서 측정범위 내의 열화의 상태도 감시하는 데 있다. 연결부 온도를 측정하고 열화 상태를 실시간 감시하여 사용자에게 가시, 가청 알람을 주어 사용자가 열화사고를 인지하여 미연에 방지할 수 있게 한다. 그러나 이러한 시스템을 구축하기 위해서는 감시 장치를 설치, 운영해야 하는 어려움이 있다. 본 연구에서는 설치 용이성을 고려하여 소출력 배터리 동작모듈로 접속부의 온도를 측정하고 이를 감시할 수 있는 적외선센서를 이용한 무선감시시스템을 개발하였다.
