  • A new contactless Li-ion battery charging system was proposed. The conventional methods for charging Li-ion battery have some weak points. For example, there can be a contact failure, a poor waterproof, and a difficulty to standardize the battery charging systems. The new proposed system can overcome these weak points. The new charging system is composed of power transfer part and data transfer part. This paper focuses on the power transfer part for contactless battery charging. The power stage is mainly composed of PPRC(Push-pull Parallel Resonant Converter) and flyback converter. The new method of chaging Li-ion battery was proposed and PPRC + flyback-boost topology was analyzed. The proposed toplogy was tested under the constant voltage control and the constant current control which are adequate for charging Li-ion battery.

  • In this paper, an auto recharging system for a mobile robot based on the wireless power transmission and visual information is proposed. The existing recharging systems for mobile robot use mechanical contact while wireless power transmission transfers energy by electromagnetic induction method without contacts. For efficiency of charging, alignment of coils is important. In order to solve this problem, with the visual image, ellipticity of coil circle is recognized to control the pose of mobile robot.

  • In this study, the non-contact type bicycle generator system considering the recharge is developed to use the eco-friendly energy source when the bicycle is operating. The following three main factors are considered in this study. One of factors is that the intensity of the rotating magnet is in the range of 2,700~4,300 [Gause]. The next factor is that the separation distance of rotating magnet and bicycle rim is in the range of 1.5-3.0 mm. The last factor is that the pedaling speed is in the range of 55 RPM [Wheel speed 5.6Km]~150 RPM [Wheel speed 15.25Km] consirering with the 5 staged gear transmission. The obtained results are as followed. (1) The generator output voltage gradually increases from 3V to 10V with the pedaling speed increases, at the separation distance is less than 2.5 mm and the operating voltage of the LED lamp is generated at a pedaling speed of 60 RPM or more. (2) The output current of the generator increases from 20mA to 40mA with the pedaling speed increases, at a separation distance is less than 2.0 mm and the operating current of the LED lamp is generated at a pedaling speed of 60 RPM or more. (3) When the separation distance was 3.0 mm, the output voltage and current are significantly lower than those of the bicycle LED lamp is generated. (4) The charging time is expected to be 12.24 ~ 17.65 hours when the magnitude of the magnet is 3,400[Gauss] at a pedaling speed of 55 RPM or more. (5) As a result of this study, it is thought that the non-contact type bicycle generator system considering the recharge can replace the conventional friction power generation system.

  • Streamflow discharge as a fundamental riverine quantity plays a crucial role in water resources management, thereby requiring accurate in-situ measurement. Recent advances in instrumentations for the streamflow discharge measurement has complemented or substituted classical devices and methods. Among various potential methods, surface current meter using microwave has increasingly begun to be applied not only for flood but also normal flow discharge measurement, remotely and safely enabling practitioners to measure flow velocity postulating indirect contact. With minimized field preparedness, this method facilitated and eased flood discharge measurement in the difficult in-situ conditions such as extreme flood in active ways emitting 24.125 GHz microwave without relying on natural lights. In South Korea, a rectangular shaped instrument named with Microwave Water Surface Current Meter (MWSCM) has been developed and commercially released around 2010, in which domestic agencies charging on streamflow observation shed lights on this approach regarding it as a potential substitute. Considering this brand-new device highlighted for efficient flow measurement, however, there has been few noticeable efforts in systematic and comprehensive evaluation of its performance in various measurement and riverine conditions that lead to lack in imminent and widely spreading usages in practices. This study attempted to evaluate the MWSCM in terms of instrumen's monitoring configuration particularly regarding tilt and yaw angle. In the middle of pointing the measurement spot in a given cross-section, the observation campaign inevitably poses accuracy issues related with different tilt and yaw angles of the instrument, which can be a conventionally major source of errors for this type of instrument. Focusing on the perspective of instrument configuration, the instrument was tested in a controlled outdoor river channel located in KICT River Experiment Center with a fixed flow condition of around 1 m/s flow speed with steady flow supply, 6 m of channel width, and less than 1 m of shallow flow depth, where the detailed velocity measurements with SonTek micro-ADV was used for validation. As results, less than 15 degree in tilting angle generated much higher deviation, and higher yawing angle proportionally increased coefficient of variance. Yaw angles affected accuracy in terms of measurement area.
