  • Due to the variety of disturbance, it is not ease to accomplish the in-process detection of weld line with non-contact sensor. To get around this difficulties problem develop an automatic seam tracking weld system, the reliable signal processing algorithm has been recommanded. In this research, laser displacement sensor is applied as a seam finder in the automatic tracking system. The sensor is controlled by a dc servo motor which is mounted at X-Y moving table. X-Y moving table manipulated by an ac servo motor controls the position and velocity of the welding torch. First, X-Y table moves to Y-axis to search the welding joint feature before starting the welding, and welding joint is from the scanning data and weighting factor for each other. Second, weld line is determined using proposed signal processing algorithm during welding process. Form the experimental results, we could see the possibility that laser displacement sensor with procesed algorithm can be used as a seam finder in welding process under the severe noise (spatter,arc light etc.) condition

  • In this paper, experimental studies of force control of the crack tracking robot are presented. The crack tracking robot should maintain constant contact with the road to perform cleaning process of the crack effectively. Regulating desired force on the road requires a sophisticated force control algorithm. Here, two main force control algorithms such as the impedance force control and the explicit force control are used. Performances of two force control algorithms are compared.

  • Polymeric composite insulators are used for outdoor insulation. However, our knowledge about their long-term performance in an outdoor environment is still very limited. The electrical stress caused the surface of these insulators to become degradation. In order to evaluate the tracking resistance of polymer insulators, we performed the tracking wheel test which is recommended by CEA LWIWG-01. And the flashover voltage tests were conducted for understanding electrical characteristics after tacking wheel test. Also, these insulators are studied by characterization methods such as contact angle measurement, SEM, etc.

Ground Contact Analysis for Korea's Fictitious Lunar Orbiter Mission

  • In this research, the ground contact opportunity for the fictitious low lunar orbiter is analyzed to prepare for a future Korean lunar orbiter mission. The ground contact opportunity is basically derived from geometrical relations between the typical ground stations at the Earth, the relative positions of the Earth and Moon, and finally, the lunar orbiter itself. Both the cut-off angle and the orbiter's Line of Sight (LOS) conditions (weather orbiter is located at near or far side of the Moon seen from the Earth) are considered to determine the ground contact opportunities. Four KOMPSAT Ground Stations (KGSs) are assumed to be Korea's future Near Earth Networks (NENs) to support lunar missions, and world-wide separated Deep Space Networks (DSNs) are also included during the contact availability analysis. As a result, it is concluded that about 138 times of contact will be made between the orbiter and the Daejeon station during 27.3 days of prediction time span. If these contact times are converted into contact duration, the duration is found to be about 8.55 days, about 31.31% of 27.3 days. It is discovered that selected four KGSs cannot provide continuous tracking of the lunar orbiter, meaning that international collaboration is necessary to track Korea's future lunar orbiter effectively. Possible combinations of world-wide separated DSNs are also suggested to compensate for the lack of contact availability with only four KGSs, as with primary and backup station concepts. The provided algorithm can be easily modified to support any type of orbit around the Moon, and therefore, the presented results could aid further progress in the design field of Korea's lunar orbiter missions.

  • COVID-19 사태를 비롯하여 인류는 지속적인 바이러스 감염에 노출되고 있고 감염자를 신속하게 격리하고 접촉자를 추적하여 감염 확산을 방지를 위한 노력이 진행되고 있다. 연락을 통해 확진자 접촉을 확인하는 수동적인 역학조사는 정확성과 신속성 측면에서 한계가 있어 다양한 디지털 기술을 활용한 자동적인 추적 방법이 제안되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 저전력 블루투스 BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) 기술을 활용하여 접촉을 확인하고 RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) 값에 대한 분석과 보정을 통해 밀접 접촉을 식별하는 알고리즘을 제시하고, 중앙집중형 서버 구조의 바이러스 확산을 방지할 수 있는 시스템을 제안하고자 한다.

A Close Contact Tracing Method Based on Bluetooth Signals Applicable to Ship Environments

  • There are still outbreaks of COVID-19 across the world. Ships increase the risk of worldwide transmission of the virus. Close contact tracing remains as an effective method of reducing the risk of virus transmission. Therefore, close contact tracing in ship environments becomes a research topic. Exposure Notifications API (Application Programming Interface) can be used to determine the encountered location points of close contacts on ships. Location points of close contact are estimated by the encountered location points. Risky areas in ships can be calculated based on the encountered location points. The tracking of close contacts is possible with Bluetooth technology without the Internet. The Bluetooth signal can be used to judge the proximity among detecting devices by using the feature that Bluetooth has a strong signal at close range. This Bluetooth feature makes it possible to trace close contacts in ship environments. In this paper, we propose a method for close contact tracing and showing the risky area in a ship environment by combining beacon and Exposure Notification API using Bluetooth technology. This method does not require an Internet connection for tracing close contacts and can protect the personal information of close contacts.

  • In this paper, lateral force control of a mobile robot with slip is presented. First, the bicycle model of a mobile robot is derived for the front steering. Second, impedance force control algorithm is applied to regulate contact force with environment. The desired distance is specified conservatively inside the environment to guarantee to make contact. Different stiffness of environment has been tested for force tracking task. Simulation results show that the proposed control algorithm works well to maintain desired contact force on the environment.

  • A quantitative non-contact multi-point measurement system is proposed to the measurement of three-dimensional movement of floating vessels by using digital image processing. The instantaneous three-dimensional movement of a floating structure which is floating in a small water tank is measured by this system and its three-dimensional movement is reconstructed by the measurement results. The validity of this system is verified by position identification for spatially distributed known positional values of basic landmarks set for the camera calibration. It is expected that this system is applicable to the non-contact measurement for an unsteady physical phenomenon especially for the measurement of three-dimensional movement of floating vessels in the laboratory model test.

  • The present study is concerned with the hydrostatic extrusion process of copper-clad aluminium bar to investigate the basic flow characteristics. Considering the bonding mechanism of bi-metal contact surface as cold pressure welding, the normal pressure and the contact surface expansion are selected as process parameters governing the bonding condition. The critical pressure required for the bonding at the interface is obtained by solving a "local extrusion" using a slip line meyhod. A viscoplastic finite element method is used to analyze the steady state extrusion process. The boundary profile of bi-metal rod is predicted by tracking a particle path adjacent to interface surface. The variations of contact surface area and the normal pressure along the interface profile are predicted and compared to those by experiments.

  • According to 2014 fire statistical yearbook in the National Fire Data System, a main cause of fire is electrical fire except carelessness fire. Joint/contact badness is the one of the main cause of electrical fire. Furthermore, power relays which are used in electric panel board, motor control center and automation controller, are main element of automation system in the industry field. Overload, voltage unbalance and open-phase due to joint/contact badness of terminal make electric accidents or electrical fires. In order to prevent joint/contact badness of terminal, this paper proposes a sensing circuit of chattering, tracking, arc current, voltage unbalance and open-phase etc. Some experimental tests of the proposed apparatus confirm practicality and validity of the theoretical results.
