하드 디스크 드라이브 동작 상태 충격 시에 램프 충돌 유무에 따른 디스크와 슬라이더의 거동해석 (Analysis of dynamic characteristics between disk and slider with operational shock in hard disk drive)

  • Recently, As portability of storage device has been increased, it is important to analyze the precise anti-shock analysis. For non-operational shock analysis, the accuracy of non-operational shock simulation has been improved. However, because operational shock analysis includes nonlinear process, it is hard to get clear result from operational shock simulation. In this paper, by using Lagrange multiplier method, the FE model including ramp-disk contact of nonlinear process will be analyzed. Through this, we find ramp-disk contact affect the dynamic of slider. Additionally, for the more accurate analysis, we should include ramp-disk contact process at the FE model.

  • Increasing the density magnetic recording of a hard disk drive needs to improve position control of a slider. We have troubles analyzing position of a slider by nonlinear property of pivot ball bearing. Many researches analyze a hard disk drive to change pivot ball bearing part from balls to springs. Pivot ball bearing operates by rotation and movement of balls. This study considers Hertzian contact force when balls contact with outer race to analyze nonlinear movement of a ball bearing. Experiment of this study measures movement of a circular center of a pivot ball bearing. We also verify the simulation results and the experiment results.

  • Load/Unload(L/UL) technology includes the benefits, that is, increased areal density, reduced power consumption and improved shock resistance contrary to contact start stop(CSS). It has been widely used in portable hard disk drive and will become the key technology for developing the small form factor hard disk drive. The main objectives of L/UL are no slider disk contact or no media damage. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL systems. In this paper, we focus on the effect of the ramp profile. We can find out the lateral velocities in L/UL process through experiments and simulations for force of voice coil motor and friction force on ramp. And then, we will gain the optimal design of ramp slope to maintain the minimum clearance of suspension dimple and slider with FE model. In special, after finding the point at which air bearing breaks and designing the ramp, we will identify the results for improving unload performance.

재배치 시간-주파수 해석을 이용한 슬라이더 공기베어링의 비정상 거동 연구 (Study on the Nonstationary Behavior of Slider Air Bearing Using Reassigned Time -frequency Analysis)

  • Frequency spectrum using the conventional Fourier analysis gives adequate information about the dynamic characteristics of the slider air bearing for the linear and stationary cases. The intermittent contacts for the extremely low flying height, however, generate nonlinear and nonstationary vibration at the instant of contact. Nonlinear dynamic model should be developed to simulate the impulse response of the air bearing during slider-disk contact. Time-frequency analysis is widely used to investigate the nonstationary signal. Several time-frequency analysis methods are employed and compared for the slider vibration signal caused by the impact against an artificially induced scratch on the disk. The representative Wigner-Ville distribution leads to the severe interference problem by cross terms even though it gives good resolution both in time and frequency. The smoothing process improves the interference problem at the expense of resolution. In order to get the results with good resolution and little interference, the reassignment method is proposed. Among others the reassigned Gabor spectrogram shows the best resolution and readability with negligible interference.

  • In order to analysis contact mechanism of head/ disk interface on hard disk drive, many techniques of analysis have been developed. Acoustic Emission sensor can be used for detect elastic energy of contact at head/disk interface. This work presents a good understanding of slider characteristics in frequency domain. The results show that torsional and bending mode of slider are dominant in head/disk contact.

  • In this work, we propose a new type of HDD suspension featuring shape memory ally (SMA) actuator in order to prevent the contact between the slider and disk. The principal design parameters are obtained from the modal analysis using finite element analysis, and then the dynamic model is established to formulate the control scheme for Non-Contact Start/Stop mode drive. Subsequently, a robust Η$_{\infty}$, control algorithm is designed by integrating experimentally-obtained SMA actuator dynamics to the proposed suspension system. The controller is empirically realized and control results for different load/unload profiles are presented in time domain. In addition, the contact signal between the slider and disk is measured by the electrical resistance method.istance method.

열보조 자기기록 시스템의 로드/언로드 분석 (Analysis of load/unload process in HAMR system with light delivery)

  • To investigate of load/unload performance, FE (finite element) model of conventional suspension and HAMR suspension were made. The FE models were verified by modal analysis. In the loading simulation, the conventional system could stably load onto the disk without contact. On the other hand, the HAMR suspension which had an optical fiber and prism occurred slider - disk contact. In the unloading process, the conventional system was unloaded without contact. However, in the HAMR suspension, the contact between slider and disk was occurred at the moment that the dimple was separated during unload process. Therefore the load/unload performance of HAMR decrease with high stiffness, it is necessary that stiffness of HAMR suspension should reduced with design parameters of optical fiber and prism.

The main object of L/UL is no slider-disk contact or no media damage. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL system. In this paper, we focus on lift-off force. The 'lift-off' force, defined as the minimum air bearing force, is another very important indicator of unloading performance. A large amplitude of lift-off force increases the ramp force, the unloading time, the slider oscillation and contact-possibility. To minimize 'lift-off' force we optimizes the slider and suspension using the integrated optimization frame, which automatically integrates the analysis with the optimization and effectively implements the repetitive works between them. In particular, this study is carried out the optimal design considering the process of modes tracking through the entire optimization processes. As a result, we yield the equation which can easily find a lift-off force and structural optimization for suspension.

  • In most hard disk drives that apply the ramp load/unload technology, the head is unloaded at the outer edge of the disk while the disk is rotating. During the unloading process, slider-disk contacts may occur by lift-off force and rebound of the slider. The main issue of this paper is to prevent the slider-disk contact by rebound, and we apply a disk bump to the unloading process. To do so, first, the ranges of bump dimension are determined. Second, the stability of each bump is checked by dynamic simulation. Finally, unload simulations are performed for stable bump designs. As a result of these steps, the effect of the bump design and the position for the unloading performance were investigated. As a consequence, we propose the optimal bump design to improve the unloading performance. Furthermore, we can identify to remove rebound contact by applying a bump on disk during the unloading process.

전동차 주습판(Pantograph Slider) 재질개선 및 실차 적용에 관한 연구 (A Study on Material Development for and Application of a Slider of Pantograph)

  • VVVF 전동차 팬터그래프의 주습판은 전차선과 미끄럼 접촉에 의한 집전을 하면서 편마모 등 이상마모 현상이 나타나게 된다. 우천 시에는 윤활성분이 손실되어 주습판과 전차선과의 왕복운동에 대한 마찰저항이 급상승하여 국부적 마모가 가속화 된다. 내마모 특성을 가져야 하는 동계 주습판의 특성을 고려하여 합금설계를 통해 제작된 개선 주습판의 현차시험 결과 이상마모와 편마모가 발생하지 않았다. 개선된 주습판의 밀도향상은 Fe-Ti의 부석효과를 상승시켜 우기 시에도 우수한 내마모성 및 내아크성을 유지함으로써 이상마모 발생을 방지하였다. 또한, 기계적, 전기적 마모에 의한 주습판의 성분 및 조성변화가 일어나지 않았다. 주습판의 내마모성 향상에 기여함과 더불어 우기와 동절기 등 악 조건하에서 현차시험을 거치고 전차선과의 상관관계도 분석하여 전 전동차에 적용하였다.
