The flying height of contact slider is determined by vertical and pitching motions of slider. This paper performed the computer simulation for flying height change of contact slider. It is changed by many parameters, contact stiffness, contact damping, air bearing stiffness ratio, a location of mass center, and so on. Computer simulation is performed for knowing for what change of these parameters influences in flying height of contact slider. Disk surface is modeled in harmonic wave with from 10㎑ to 600㎑. Tri-pad slider is modeled in that contact slider has 2-DOF motion (vertical motion, pitching motion). Tri-pad contact slider is analyzed by numerical analysis method in computer simulation.
The flying height of contact slider is determined by vertical and pitching motions. This paper performed the computer simulation for flying height change of contact slider. It is changed by many parameters, contact stiffness. contact damping, all bearing stiffness ratio and so on. So computer simulation analysis is performed for knowing for what change of these parameters influences in flying height of contact slider. The practical recording zone surface is gotten by using SPM. In recording zone, flying height is simulated for each parameter. the settling time which the flying height of contact slider is lower than 10nm is analyzed over practical disk surface for changing each parameter. Through these results, the contact slider can be analyzed for more accuracy dynamic characteristics.
Head Disk Interface (HDI) in a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) has decreased to achieve high areal density. Thus, the contact between a slider and a disk becomes more important. The contact between the slider and the disk can cause severe wear and damage of both the slider and the disk. Especially, Touch Down (TD) that the contact occurs continuously and repeatedly is extremely dangerous. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the unstable bouncing vibration of the slider in head-disk interface. In this paper, we investigate the characteristic and causes of the Touch Down.
Load/Unload technology has more benefits than the conventional CSS technology. However, it remains unsolved technical problem on the unloading process. While the slider climbs up the ramp at the outer edge of the disk, the possibility of the slider-disk contact by lift-off force and rebound of the slider increases. This paper focuses on no slider-disk contact. To prevent the slider-disk contact, we apply the disk bump on disk outer edge proceeding unload. Firstly, in the simulation, the bump dimension is determined by changing bump design parameters. Secondly, dynamic stability of slider have to be checked on disk bump before unload analysis, and unload analysis is performed by applying stable bump shapes to unload simulation. Thirdly, we select optimal bump shape to improve unload performance by unload analysis. Finally, in the experiment, the disk bump is mechanically manufactured by pressing disk surface using diamond tip. That is variously processed by changing pressing pressure. After confirming bump shape by nano-scanner, proper bump shape is applied to real experimental unload process. Through this investigation, we propose the optimal bump design to prevent the slider-disk contact, and then we can realize improved unloading performance.
In HDD industry, many technologies have been developed and investigated as means to increase the areal density of drives. Thermal flying-height control has been considered and widely applied in current HDD. When contact occur between TFC slider and disk, the slider has a friction heating induced by highly rotated disk. Moreover, because of the friction heating, additional protrusion of slider can occur. The additional protrusion in contact situation can be a severe effect on head part of slider and disk. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the friction heating and additional protrusion in contact situation.
Pantograph is set on the roof of Subway. This plays the role of staying proper current on Subway when Subway is running or not. Pantograph includes Slider. Slider is most important part of Pantograph because this part is used to receive current from Contact Wire by dynamic interaction with Contact Wire. In general, material of Slider is steel, copper, or carbon alloy. Especially, SEOUL METRO uses Slider of sintered cualloy, but there is problem. This Slider causes over wearing during rainy season. We should reduce wearing between Contact Wire and Slider. Reducing this wear is most valuable technology in Subway system. I performed experiments to find out the best way that reduces the wear. I can find the best way as I change the rate of the alloy.
In recent years the flying height of the head/slider has been decreasing in order to increase the recording density of hard disk drive (HDD). Accordingly, it was predicted that direct contact between slider and disk surface (slider slap) can cause defects on the disk such as scratch and particle generation. In this work, we theoretically demonstrate the effect of rounded-edge slider using Hertzian contact theory. Depth and width of scratch were predicted by plowing model. Furthermore, as we fabricated rounded-edge slider, rounded-edge slider was tested and compared with sharp-edge slider. The experimental results show rounded-edge was effective for reducing scratch depth.
Recently, load/unload(L/UL) process is applied to a computer information storage device due to its advantages such as lower power consumption, larger data zone, simpler fabrication of disk for no bumped parking zone, and rarer contact between the slider and media. An analysis of the transient motion for the slider is very important to design an air bearing surface (ABS) of the slider to secure the stable performance of the system. During the L/UL process, however, there are several issues occurred such as contact or collision between slider and media. Sometimes this will cause the system failure. In this study, the dynamics of the slider during the loading process are investigated through a numerical simulation using FEM analysis and experiment.
The main wearing slider of pantograph is a difference which is considerable to wear phenomenon according to material properties. Especially, Cu-type wearing slider suddenly occurs the abnormal wear by precipitation, this threatens the travelling safety of the train. The abnormal wear by precipitation and arc influences are main factor decided to life time of Cu-type wearing slider and contact wire. Consequently, the application of the main wearing slider with wear resisting capacity, electrical conductivity, resistance arc and lubrication is demanded. In this paper through tribologic approach, overcame abnormal phenomenon of the Cu-type wearing slider by the precipitation and for the economic efficient augmentation by durability improvement and the travelling safety were accomplished. The Cu-type wearing slider which has excellent electric conductivity and arc characteristic but it occurs the normal and abnormal wear phenomenon according the precipitation which changes, respectively. Consequently, this phenomenon grasps fixed quantity according to precipitation, a mileage and wear volume then Fe-type wearing slider compared and analyzed.
The main objectives of the Load/Unload are no slider-disk contact and no media damage. But, it remains unsolved technical problems on the unloading process. While the slider climbs up the ramp at the outer edge of the disk, the possibility of the slider-disk contact by lift-off force and rebound of the slider increases. Keeping in mind of these points, to prevent the slider-disk contact, we apply the disk bump on disk outer edge proceeding unload. First, referring to the simulation results, we select the optimal bump shapes to improve unload performance by unload analysis. Second, the disk bump is mechanically manufactured by pressing disk surface using tungsten tips. The bumps are variously processed by changing pressing pressure of tungsten tips. After confirming bump shape by nano-scanner, the optimal bump shape is applied to experimental unload process. Through this experiment, it is conformed that the unload performance was improved by using the optimal disk bump to prevent the slider-disk contact.
