  • A series of experiments have been carried out to investigate the effects of non-condensable gas on the direct contact film condensation of vapor mixture under an adiabatic wall condition. The average heat transfer coefficient of the direct contact condensation was obtained at the atmospheric pressure with four main parameters ; air-mass fraction, mixture velocity, film Reynolds number, and the degree of water film subcooling having an influence on the condensation heat transfer coefficient. With the analysis of 88 experiments, a correlation of the average Nusselt number for direct contact film condensation of steam/air mixture at an adiabatic vertical wall was proposed as functions of film Reynolds number, mixture Reynolds number, air mass fraction, and Jacob number. The average heat transfer coefficient for steam/air mixture condensation decreased significantly while air mass fraction increased. The average heat transfer coefficients also decreased as the Jacob number increased, and were scarcely affected by the film Reynolds number below a mixture Reynolds number of about 245,000.

  • The results of the electrical contact conductivity of multi-contact spots accounting the surface roughness and the non-conductive films of different origins such as air, water, cutting oil, and machining oil are presented. The array of metal spheres compressed between two flat plates has been used for simulation of the contact behavior of multiple contact of solids, under normal loading. Measurement of electrical contact resistance has been made using the equipment providing the adequate accuracy in the range of micro Ohms. The data on electrical contact resistance have been compared with theoretical predictions using the multiple contact model of constriction resistance. The effect of single spot number and array on conductivity of contact has been evaluated. The results of the experiments show that the contact resistance are closely related to the number of loading cycles, form of surface roughness, and presence of non-conductive films that reduce the size of the real electrical contact spots.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the number of occlusal contacts in centric occlusion. The 50 strictly selected subjects, who have good natural dentition and occlusion, were impressioned with Alginate Impression material, and dental stone models were madel. After transfering the models from mouth to Hanau Articulator Model H2 by means of SM type Face-Bow, condylar guidances were registered, red articulating papers($13{\mu}$ in thickness) were inserted between upper and lower posterior teeth, and the red marked points and lines were counted as occlusal contact points. 1. The number of occlusal contact points in centric occlusion were 1st Molars 2nd Molars, 2nd Premolars and 1st Premolars in order. 2. The number of occlusal contact points of right side showed comparatively much more than those of left side. 3. The number of occlusal contact points of upper in Premolar area were much more than those of lower, and in Molar area were the reverse. 4. The total number of occlusal contact points in centric occlusion were approximately 105 points.

  • Breakdown characteristics and survival probability of turn-to-turn models were investigated under ac and impulse voltage at 77K. For experiments, two test electrode models were fabricated: One is point contact model and the other is surface contact model. Both are made of copper wrapped by O.025mm thick polyimide film(Kapton). The experimental results were analyzed statistically using Weibull distribution in order to examine the wrapping number effects on voltage-time characteristics under ac voltage as well as under impulse voltage in LN$_{2}$. Also survival analysis were performed according to the Kaplan-Meier method. The breakdown voltages of surface contact model are lower than that of point contact model, because the contact area of surface contact model is wider than that of point contact model. Besides, the shape parameter of point contact model is a little bit larger than that of surface contact model. The time to breakdown t$_{50}$ is decreased as the applied voltage is increased, and the lifetime indices slightly are increased as the number of layers is increased. According to the increasing applied voltage and decreasing wrapping number, the survival probability is increased.

  • Wear is affected by numerous factors-contact load, sliding velocity and distance, friction coefficient, material properties and environmental conditions. Among these wear factors, surface hardness is one of very important factors to determine wear. But surface hardness is varied by work hardening during repeated sliding contact. In this reason wear rate is increased or decreased with varying surface hardness, and transition of wear mechanism is happened. In this study, the surface hardening by accumulating residual stress was analyzed by considering the repeated sliding Hertzian contact model. The results showed that surface hardness was increased with increasing contact load, friction coefficient and contact number. And the depth of hardening layer, plastic layer and elastic layer depended upon contact load and number, but they didn't depend upon friction coefficient. The predicted surface hardness was about 1.5-1.8 times as hard as the material.

  • The paper presents a numerical solution to the problem of a hot rigid indenter siding over a thermoelastic Winkler foundation with a thermal contact resistance at constant speed. It is shown analytically that no steady-state solution can exist for sufficiently high temperature or sufficiently small normal load or speed regardless of the thermal contact resistance. However, the steady state solution may exist in the same situation if the thermal contact resistance is considered. This means that the effect of the large values of temperature difference and small value of force or velocity which occur at no steady state can be lessened due to the thermal contact resistance. When there is no steady-state the predicted transient behavior involves regions of transient stationary contact interspersed with regions of separation regardless of the thermal contact resistance. Initially, the system typically exhibits a small number of relatively large contact and separation regions, but after the initial transient the trailing edge of the contact area is only established and the leading edge loses contact, reducing the total extent of contact considerably. As time progresses, larger and larger number of small contact areas are established, until eventually the accuracy of the algorithm is limited by the discretization used.

  • In order to improve the efficiency of a direct contact heat exchanger for a solar thermal energy system, the working fluid should be dispersed into small and uniform droplets, and stay within a heat exchanger for a long time. Therefore, installation of meshes in a direct contact heat exchanger is suggested in the present study, and the performance of the direct contact heat exchanger with several layers of meshes is experimentally investigated. Diethyl phthalate is used as the working fluid, and the performance of the heat exchanger is tested for several different operating conditions and compared to that of the heat exchanger without meshes. The results of this investigation show that meshes make droplets uniform and small when the flow rate is low. The relationship between the Peclet number and the Nusselt number becomes linear if it is steady. And, the Nusselt number for the direct contact heat exchanger with meshes becomes greater than that without meshes as the Peclet number increases.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between social networks and perceived self-competence. The subject were 350 third and sixth graders selected from a public elementary school in Seoul. The children were administered the Pattison Psychosocial Network Inventory and The Self Perception Profile for Children. Three major questions are addressed; l)age changes 2)sex differences, and 3) the relation between the characteristics of social networks and self-perceived competence. Data were analyzed by pearson's product moment correlation, one-way ANOVA. Proportion measures were also used since they had allowed for the observation of relationship between two subsets of people within given categories(e.g.,the number of relatives divided by the number of relatives plus nonrelatives). The effects of age and sex of child on the number and daily contact with kin, nankin, peers, adults, males, and females were found. Sixth graders had a larger number of adults than third graders. While children had a greater number of adults than peers, they had more contact with peers than with adults in their network. It was found that boys had greater number of people in their network than girls. And boys had a larger number of and more contact with males, and girls had a larger number of more contact with females. The structure of childrens' social networks structure were correlated with perceived self-competence.

  • New evaluation method for the particle size and morphology via change of ground particle during a grinding process was investigated. The grinding experiments were carried by a planetary ball mill. The relationship between the particle outline of the scanning electron microscopy photograph and measurement line, the measurement contact number was evaluated. The value of contact number decreased with the increase in the particle size of the ground sample, and varied with the experimental conditions. The value of contact number, which is related to the particle size of the raw sample, changed at the various experimental conditions.

  • Many types of occlusal splints are used for treatment of craniomandibular disorders. Most widely used splint among them is flat-type centric relation splint. Insertion of splint into the mouth may cause increasing of vertical dimension, masticatory muscle realignment and rearrangement of maxillo-mandibular relationship, so as a result of splint treatment, occlusal relation may vary whether you like it or not. From this point of view, occlusal state of patient shold be frequently monitored to prevent undesired or harmful effect during occlusal splint therapy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of occlusal splint, especially centric relation splint, on the occlusal contact state after 3 months treatment. 32 patients with craniomandibular disorders who had unilateral symptoms participated in this study. To observe and record occlusal contact state, the author used T-Scan system (Tekscan Co. U.S.A.) at both pretreatment and posttreatment. The recorded date were analyzed with regard to contact number, contact force and contact time, change of anterior tooth contact and coincidence of first contact point with affected side were observed, too. Aan last, the subjects were divided into 2 groups and compared, according to average value of VAS index, with respect to joint pain, sound and limitation of movement, respectively. The collected date were statistically processed with SPSS and the result as follows : 1. Total occlusal contact number and force were not changed by occlusal splint therapy but total occlusal contact time decreased slightly. 2. There was a tendency of increasing number of subjects with anterior tooth contact after treatment and change of first contact point side were observed in as many as 40.6% of subjects. 3. There were no difference between higher and lower group of VAS index, and between pretreatment and posttreatment in each group, either.
