  • Purpose: The cleaning effect of protein deposit and the change of contact lens parameters by ultrasonic cleaner for eye glasses on the soft contact lenses were investigated. Methods: Etafilcon A contact lenses contaminated with protein, was ultrasonicated by ultrasonic cleaner for eye glasses and for the control group, spoiled contact lenses were cleaned by multi-purpose solution. The remaining protein deposits on the contact lenses were determined after extraction and the changes of overall diameter, base curve, center thickness power, and water contents on contact lenses were measured and surfaces of contact lenses were observed by scanning electron microscope. Results: The cleaning efficacies of multi-purpose solution on protein deposited etafilcon A contact lenses were 6.08%, and 23.73~33.92% in the group of ultrasonic cleaner for eye glasses with multi-purpose solution and 0~12.99% in the group of ultrasonic clear for contact lens with multipurpose solution depending on the treatment time. The changes of parameters and surface on contact lenses by ultrasonication were not observed. Conclusions: Ultrasonic cleaner for eye glasses can be used to eliminate protein deposits for the diagnostic soft contact lens in the office since it was effective to eliminate protein deposits and not caused change of parameters on soft contact lenses.

  • Using the methods which described in ISO 4588, ASTM D2651 and the selected literature, we investigated the best conditions of acid treatment for stainless steel and carbon steel. The acid treatments were conducted with four different acid solutions which were prepared for stainless steel and carbon steel specimen. We observed the contact angle and morphology and roughness of the metal surface and the thickness change at various treatment conditions as treatment temperature and time. Also, we investigated the characteristics of the surface aging according to air exposure after surface treatment. As a result, the optimal temperature of the acid treatment for stainless steel and carbon steel were each obtained at $83^{\circ}C$ and $63^{\circ}C$. Also, it was confirmed that the acid treatments for the metal surface were accompanied with the decrease of thickness and the change of surface morphology due to significant erosion that depend on treatment methods. And also, it was characterized that the aspect of surface aging by air exposure was highly depended on the method of acid treatment.

  • The present paper concerns the mathematical study and the numerical treatment of the problem of semirigid connections in bolted steel column base plates by taking into account the possibility of appearance of separation phenomena on the contact surface under certain loading conditions. In order to obtain a convenient discrete form to simulate the structural behaviour of a steel column base plate, the continuous contact problem is first formulated as a variational inequality problem or, equivalently, as a quadratic programming problem. By applying an appropriate finite element scheme, the discrete problem is formulated as a quadratic optimization problem which expresses, from the standpoint of Mechanics, the principle of minimum potential energy of the semirigid connection at the state of equilibrium. For the numerical treatment of this problem, two effective and easy-to-use solution strategies based on quadratic optimization algorithms are proposed. This technique is illustrated by means of a numerical application.

  • A sectional analysis of sheet metal forming process with an arbitrary tool shape is proposed in the present work. To improve the numerical convergence in the conventional membrane sectional analysis, the Bending Energy Augmented Membrane (BEAM) elements had been developed. The BEAM elements particularly improve the stability and convergence of the finite element method for the case of deep drawing. In this work, the FERGUBON spline (C$^2$-continuous) was used to fit the deformed mesh to smooth the given curves and calculate the local curvature of the deformed sheet. The fittings of the deformed sheet and tool surface profile ensure the stability and the convergence of the finite element analysis of highly nonlinear stamping processes. A center floor section and front fender section are analyzed to show the accuracy and robustness of the approach. The results obtained by the proposed approach are compared with the available experimental data.

  • We suggest a new method to evaluate the anti-smudge performance of LCD panels. The anti-smudge performance is characterized by oleic acid contact angle. This method shows accurate and reproducible result and overcomes the difficulty of quantitative evaluation for the anti-smudge characteristic and low reliability in several proposed measurements.

  • This study was carried out to get efficient of nutrient removal and wastage sludge production minimized effects on the treatment of slaughterhouse wastewater using aerobic curtain biological film contact process. As a results of biofilm attachment experiment aggravation of water quality due to excessive biofilm showed after every 15 days of operating times. The concentration of BOD and COD in the influent were 2500~3000mg/L and 1700~2100mg/L , respectively. The average BOD and CoD were 9mg/L and 17mg/L , respectively. The result of this experiment was wastage sludge did not almost generated and the removal efficiency of nutrients were kept equilibrium.

  • The purpose of this preliminary report was to describe the operating procedure of T-scan system and to identify the location, timing and force of occlusal contact in patient with normal occlusion using computerized T-scan system. From the preliminary observation , the author obtained the following results. 1. T-scan system displayed 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional description of occlusion: contact locations, timing (sequence) and forces of occlusal contacts. 2. The T-scan sensor was the most important part of the T-scan system. 3. The data of T-scan system cannot be stored in computer diskett. 4. The T-scan system is thought to be the most effective system to detect occlusal contacts and can be applied to the followings : occlusal diagnosis, occlusal equilibration, crown and bridge restorative procedures, denture adjustment, implant procedures, splint adjustment, laboratory procedures, periodontal treatment, orthodontics, TMJ treatment and patient education etc.

  • PET fabric was grafted with $CF_4$ or $C_2F_6$ plasmas generated by glow discharge. The water repellency of plasma-treated fabrics were evaluated with contact angle meter. The change in surface morphologies was observed by SEM, and the change of surface chemical characteristics were analyzed by FT-IR, ESCA and microchemical analysis technique. The results obtained are as follows : 1) The contact angle of plasma-treated fabric was over $150^\circ{C}$. 2) It was observed by SEM that the surface of treated substrate was over coated with thin film formed by the fluorocarbon plasma treatment. 3) According to ESCA analysis, there were prevailing -CHF-, $-CF_2$- and a little $-CF_3$ components on fluorocarbon plasma treated substrate. -CHF- and $-CF_2$- components were reduced by washing, and $-CF_2$- component was recovered by heat treatment. 4) In consideration of quantitative analysis of fluorine and F/C ratio by ESCA, we found that fluorination reached to the inner of substrate.

  • We introduce non-contact surface modification using trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) for thin film transistor application. The surface is not contacted to the TMCS solution because it is vaporized at room temperature. The hydrophobic surface with contact angle $of\;{\sim}\;70^{\circ}$ can be achieved by the transfer of TMCS using a PDMS mold.
