  • The Anterior surface and posterior surface of rigid gas permeable(RGP) contact lenses has been studied by scanning electron microscopy. Results point out that the ultrastructure of contact lenses surface was some different on the anterior and posterior surface of RGP. The Quantitative study of surface roughness suggest that the anterior surface was more smooth than the posterior surface. These results suggest that the materials characters appeared the contact lens surface. The morphology of the anterior and posterior surface have different, Maybe, these result have a manufacture processing of the contact lenses. But some surface appeared a foreign body particles.

  • The present work has been focused on the development of polysulfone (PSf) ultrafiltration membrane via blending by sulfonated polyethersulfone (SPES) in order to permeability enhancement for ultrafiltration of cheese whey. In this regards, sulfonation of polyethersulfone was carried out and the degree of sulfonation was estimated. The effect of blend ratio on morphology, porosity, permeation and fouling of PSf / SPES membranes was investigated. Filtration experiments of whey were conducted for separation of macromolecules and proteins from the lactose enrichment phase. The morphology and performance of membranes were evaluated using different techniques such SEM, AFM, and contact angle measurements. The contact angle measurement showed that the hydrophilicity of membrane was increased by adding SPES. According to AFM images, PSf / SPES membranes exhibited lower roughness compared to neat PSf membrane. The water and whey flux of these membranes were higher than neat membrane. However, flux was decreased when the PSf / SPES blend ratio was 0/100. It can be attributed to pore size and morphology changes. Further, fouling parameters of PSf membrane were improved after blending. The blend membranes show a great potential to be used practically in proteins separation from cheese whey.

  • The IBE(ion beam etching)-induced Schottky barrier variation which depends on various etching history related with ion energy, incident angle and etching time has been investigated using voltage-current, capacitance-voltage characteristics of metal-etched silicon contact and morphology of etched surface were studied using AFM(atomic force microscope). For ion beam etched n-type silicons, Schottky barrier is reduced according to ion beam energy. It can be seen that amount of donor-like positive charge created in the damaged layer is proportional to the ion energy. By contrary, for ion beam etched p-type silicons, the Schottky barrier and specific contact resistance are both increased. Not only etching time but also incident angle of ion beam has an effect on barrier height. Taping-mode AFM analysis shows increased roughness RMS(Root-Mean-Square) and depth distribution due to ion bombardment. Annealing in an N$_2$ ambient for 30 min was found to be effective in improving the diode characteristics of the etched samples and minimum annealing temperatures to recover IBE-induced barrier variation were related to ion beam energy.

  • The fabrication of a controlled surface is of great interest because it can be applied to various engineering facilities due to the various properties of the surface, such as self-cleaning, anti-bio-fouling, anti-icing, anti-corrosion, and anti-sticking. Controlled surfaces with micro/nano structures were fabricated using an ion beam focused onto a polypropylene (PP) surface with a fluoridation process. We developed a facile method of fabricating hydrophobic surfaces through ion beam treatment with argon and oxygen ions. The fabrication of low surface energy materials can replace the current expensive and complex manufacturing process. The contact angles (CAs) of the sample surface were $106^{\circ}$ and $108^{\circ}$ degrees using argon and oxygen ions, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy were used to determine the chemical composition of the surface. The morphology change of the surfaces was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The change of the surface morphology using the ion beam was shown to be very effective and provide enhanced optical properties. It is therefore expected that the prepared surface with wear and corrosion resistance might have a considerable potential in large scale industrial applications.

  • There has been an increasing demand for high performance and energy-saving of blind. In order to develop the eco-friendly blind textiles, heat treatment process has been utilized for LM(Low Melting) polyester fabrics and the changes of the physical properties of the treated fabrics were examined according to temperature of heat treatment. Morphology, surface reflectance, contact angle, luster, thermal property and mechanical property of heat treated LM polyester fabrics were investigated. As results, morphology analysis of thermal treated fabrics confirmed that degree of fusion of LM polyester yarns improved with increase of temperature. Surface reflectance of thermal treated fabrics decreased with increase of temperature. Luster and contact angle of a water droplet on thermal treated fabrics increased slightly with increase of temperature. The mechanical properties of the fabrics by KES-FB system were found to be temperature-dependent and especially, bending and shear properties among them were highly related to temperature.

  • In this study, a facile method to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces on perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) films using ion implantation was developed. PFA films were implanted at 100 keV with a fluence ranging from $4{\times}10^{16}$ to $7{\times}10^{16}ions\;cm^{-2}$. The surface properties of the implanted films were investigated in terms of their surface morphology, wettability, and chemical composition. As the fluence increased to $6{\times}10^{16}ions\;cm^{-2}$, the surface morphology and surface roughness of the PFA films were dramatically changed. The PFA surface implanted at a fluence of $6{\times}10^{16}ions\;cm^{-2}$ showed a maximum contact angle (CA) of $157.1^{\circ}$, while the control CA of the smooth PFA surface was $103.6^{\circ}$. Thus, the superhydrophobic surface was successfully fabricated by ion implantation.

  • Morphology and ultrastructure of protoplast fusion mode in Streptomyces lavendulae were studied by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The isolated protoplasts were stable in some degree in hypertonic solution except that several protoplasts showed irregular morphology. Fusion events were occurred as follows; contact zone, fusion zone and separation zone were appeared sequentially. After formation of the separation zone, cytoplasm and DNA from both parents were mixed eventually. In the contact zone, two menbranes were still separated by electron transparent space. The contact zone changed to fusion zone by formation of fusion membrane that phospholipid molecules of two membranes were rearranged. Thereafter, nonmembraneous separation zone was formed by disappearance of fusion membrane. These changes were characterized by successive changes in typical membrane structure in fusion areas and by a progressive loss of bispherical shape.
