The Difference in Attitude toward Medical Care between Patients and Physicians (환자와 의사의 의료에 대한 태도 차이 -한 중소도시의 대학병원과 한의과대학 부속 한방병원을 중심으로-)

  • The objective of this study is to identify the difference in attitude toward medical care between patients who visited a university hospital or an oriental medical hospital of oriental medical college, and physicians who engaged in the same hospitals. The subjects of this study were 397 cases who agreed to respond the prepared questionnaire, including 288 patients(146 university hospital utilizers and 142 utilzers for an oriental medical hospital) and 109 physicians(76 physicians and 33 oriental medical doctors). The attitude toward medical care was measured by the structured questionnaire developed for this study, which had high validity and reliability according to factor analysis, item discriminant validity, and Cronbach's $\alpha$ coefficients. On the criteria of mean value of care and cure score, the attitude toward medical care was classified into 4 groups encompassing a group with dependent attitude on medical care, a group with skeptical attitude toward it, a group with cure-oriented attitude, and a group with care-preferred attitude. The results of chi-square test, discriminant analysis, and logistic regression analysis were as follows; patients who visited a univisity hospital, patients who visited an oriental hospital, physicians, and oriental medical doctors included in the group with dependent attitude, the group with cure-oriented attitude, the group with skeptical attitude, and the group with care-preferred attitude, retrospectively. Among the subdomains of care and cure domains, which classified in reference to the result of factor analysis on pilot study, those that patients ranked more importantly than physicians were 'the importance of medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment', 'authority of physician, 'aggressiveness of treatment', 'information giving', 'personal interest' in the case of western medicine. In the case of oriental medicine, those were 'the importance of equipment for diagnosis and treatment', 'aggressiveness of treatment', 'amenities and accessibility', 'coordination of medical staff'. Both physicans and patients put the subdomain, 'physicians' medical knowledge and skillfulness' on the highest rank. The differences in ranking the important attributes of medical care between patients and physicians were apparent in the area of an 'importance of medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment' and so on. It meant that patient had over-expectation on medical care and suggested that the policy on demanad side such as the developement and dissemination of an evidence-based recommendation protocol for health care consumers might be important in Korea. In addition, regarding the attitude of physicians, during the medical education and training it may be neccessary to emphasize the aspect of 'care' of medical care rather than 'cure'. In planning on heath care delivery system, it should be considered that there is a difference in the attitude toward medical care between western medicine and oriental medicine as well as between health care providers and consumers. We expect that more valid measurement tool be developed in this area, which may be major limitation of this study and that this kind of research be expanded into the non-academic settings.

The Influence of Store Images of Discount Stores on Shopping Values and Shopping Satisfaction: The Roles of Perceived Retail Crowding (대형마트의 점포이미지가 쇼핑가치 및 쇼핑만족에 미치는 영향: 지각된 혼잡의 역할)

  • Conceptualization of store image have been suggested in the past by many marketing scholars. The dominant perspective about store image is treated as the results of a multi-attribute model. Store image is expressed as a function of the salient attributes of a particular store that are evaluated. Though, there is a little confusions about what elements compose the store image, most scholars agree that merchandise, service, atmosphere, physical facilities, comfort, and location are generally accepted elements as store image. A considerable researches support that shopping can provide both hedonic and utilitarian value. Hedonic shopping value reflects the value received from fantasy and emotive aspects of shopping experience, while utilitarian shopping value reflects the acquisition of products. These two types of shopping value can affect shopping satisfaction. This study examines the relationships among stores images(store atmosphere, salespeople services, facilities, product assortment, and store location), shopping values(utilitarian shopping value and hedonic shopping value), and shopping satisfaction based on discount stores (E-Mart, Home plus, and Lotte Mart). The author hypothesized that five store image components affect shopping values, and these shopping values affect shopping satisfaction. The author focused on the roles of perceived retail crowding between these relationships. Specifically, the author hypothesized that perceived retailing crowding moderated the relationship between shopping values and shopping satisfaction. The author also hypothesized the direct effect of perceived retail crowding on shopping satisfaction.     • 1. Introduction: Contrast to the offline purchasing environment, online store cannot offer the sense of touch or direct visual information of its product to the consumers. So the builder of the online shopping mall should provide more concrete and detailed product information(Kim 2008), and Alba (1997) also predicted that the quality of the offered information is determined by the post-purchase consumer satisfaction. In practice, many fashion and apparel online shopping malls offer the picture information with the product on the real person model to enhance the usefulness of product information. On the other virtual product experience has been suggested to the ways of overcoming the online consumers' limited perceptual capability (Jiang & Benbasat 2005). However, the adoption and the facilitation of the virtual reality tools requires high investment and technical specialty compared to the text/picture product information offerings (Shaffer 2006). This could make the entry barrier to the online shopping to the small retailers and sometimes it could be demanding high level of consumers' perceptual efforts. So the expensive technological solution could affects negatively to the consumer decision making processes. Nevertheless, most of the previous research on the online product information provision suggests the VR be the more effective tools. 2. Research Model and Hypothesis: Presented in

      , research model suggests VR effect could be moderated by the product types by the usage situations. Product types could be defined as the portable product and installed product, and the information offering type as still picture of the product, picture of the product with the real-person model and VR. 3. Methods and Results: 3.1. Experimental design and measured variables We designed the 2(product types) X 3(product information types) experimental setting and measured dependent variables such as information usefulness, attitude toward the shopping mall, overall product quality, purchase intention and the revisiting intention. In the case of information usefulness and attitude toward the shopping mall were measured by multi-item scale. As a result of reliability test, Cronbach's Alpha value of each variable shows more than 0.6. Thus, we ensured that the internal consistency of items. 3.2. Implications: The present study found the moderate effect by the product type of usage situation. Based on the findings the following managerial implications are asserted. First, it was found that information types are affect only the attitude toward the shopping mall. The meaning of this finding is that VR effects are not enough to understand the product itself. Therefore, we must consider when and how to use this VR tools. Second, it was found that there exist the interaction effects on the information usefulness, overall product quality and purchase intention. This finding suggests that consideration of usage situation helps consumer's understanding of product and promotes their purchase intention. In conclusion, not only product attributes but also product usage situations must be fully considered by the online retailers when they want to meet the needs of consumers.

    • In the growing field of green marketing there are various psychological influences that can lead to green purchase behavior. An understanding of these influences can lead to greater green marketing effectiveness. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of several value types, environmental attitudes, and preference for product attributes on green purchase behavior. To this end, a conceptual model has been proposed and tested for empirical verification with the use of a survey. Data collected from 266 Korean respondents are analyzed using path analysis. Results provide support for the proposed model, demonstrating positive links among universalism, environmental attitudes, preference for environmental attribute, and green buying behavior. It indicates that individuals with universalism as a preferred value type are high in their environmental attitudes and finally, tend to buy green products through their preference for environmental attribute. The mediating role of preference for price is not significant between environmental attitudes and green purchase behavior. The present findings, in addition, contribute the width of understanding of various proenvironmental behaviors by focusing on green purchase behavior and surveying with a Korean sample. The implications for the practices of green marketing are discussed.

    • Quality is an important factor influencing organizational performance, so it should be possible to accurately and effectively measure the quality perceived by members. The Consumer Cooperative can be seen as a retail industry by industry classification, and there are various studies based on the dimension of retail quality, but compared to the general retail industry, few studies have been conducted based on the quality level perceived by members. The purpose of this study is to develop quality dimensions and sub-attributes by analyzing in detail and elaborately how the quality of cooperative is viewed from the perspective of members who are both consumers and owners. To this end, the quality dimension of cooperative quality is needed to be newly developed and quality components are demonstrated based on previous studies on the quality dimension. The quality dimension of the cooperative was developed through prior research to suit the value of the cooperative in product, service, and social responsibility, and a survey was conducted to demonstrate the four major cooperative members in Korea. Through this, sub-dimensions were constructed and the quality dimension of the high-order model was demonstrated through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. It aims to discover key management elements in terms of quality management and provide practical implications to management.

    • The purpose of this study is to analyze products for good taste and convenience, which become an engine to constantly create customers. In addition, this study is aimed at investigating the relationship between the selective attributes of Home Meal Replacement, the perceived utilitarian value, and the repurchase intention, and drawing new suggestions on the Home Meal Replacement market from a new marketing perspective. Based on a total of 215 samples, this study reviewed the reliability and fitness of the research model and verified a total of 5 hypothesized using the Amos program. The result of study modeling was GFI=0.905, AGFI=0.849, NFI=0.889, CFI=0.945, and RMR=0.0.092 at the level of $x^2$=230.22 (df=126, p<0.001). First, the food quality (${\beta}$=0.221), convenience (${\beta}$=0.334), packing (${\beta}$=0.278), and employee service (${\beta}$=0.204) of home meal replacement consideration attributes had a positive (+) influence on perceived utilitarian value. Second, perceived utilitarian value (${\beta}$=0.584) had a positive (+) influence on repurchase intention. The factors to differentiate one company from other competitors in terms of the utilitarian value are the quality of food, convenience, wrapping, and services by employees. This study has illustrated the need to focus on the development of a premium menu to compete with other companies and to continue to research and develop nutritious foods that are easy to cook. Moreover, the key factors to have a distinct and constant competitive edge over other companies are the alleviation of consumer anxiety over wrapping container materials, the development of more designs, and the accumulation of service know-how. Therefore, it is necessary for a company to strongly develop the key factors based on its resources as a core capability.

    Effects of Aloe (Aloe vera Linne) on the Quality Attributes of Chiffon Cake (쉬폰 케이크의 품질 특성에 미치는 알로에의 영향)

    • Chiffon cakes were prepared using various concentrations of aloe gel to develop functional baking procedures. The quality characteristics of chiffon cakes prepared after addition of 20%, 40%, or 60% (w/w) aloe gel, substituting for the same levels of wheat flour, were investigated. No significant weight difference between cakes was observed. The height of cakes containing aloe gel was significantly greater than that of control cakes. The baking loss rate (BLR) of aloe gel decreased as the amount of gel increased, and cakes prepared using 60% (w/w) aloe gel had the lowest BLR. Moisture contents of cakes prepared using aloe gel were higher than that of control cakes. Cakes with 60% (w/w) aloe gel had the highest moisture content. The pore size of cakes with 60% (w/w) aloe gel was the smallest of all groups. Crumb color became whiter as the proportion of aloe gel increased. Lightness (L value) of control cake was lower than that of cake containing aloe gel. Redness (a value) of aloe chiffon cakes increased as the proportion of aloe gel rose. Yellowness (b value) of cakes with 40% (w/w) aloe gel was significantly higher than that of the control group. Other cakes showed no difference in b value compared with control cake. Hardness in all cakes prepared with aloe gel was significantly lower than that of the control group. Adhesiveness of control cake was significantly lower than that of other cakes. No significant between-group difference in springiness was observed. The cohesiveness of cakes with 40% (w/w) aloe gel was significantly lower than that of the control group and that of cakes with 20% (w/w) aloe gel. The gumminess and chewiness of control cakes were significantly higher than those of other cakes. The yellowness of cake with 60% (w/w) aloe gel was significantly lower than that of the other groups. Pore size decreased after the addition of aloe gel. There was no significant difference in appearance among cakes thus, all cakes were acceptable to potential consumers. Although no perceptible difference in aloe odor was evident, cakes with 60% (w/w) aloe gel scored significantly lower in flavor acceptance compared with other cakes. No significant between-cake difference in taste acceptance, perceived moisture level, or texture acceptability was observed. Cakes with 40% and 60% (both w/w) aloe gel were of significantly higher density than other cakes. Overall, the acceptability of cakes with 60% (w/w) aloe gel was lower than that of other cakes. Ultimately, the results indicated that quality can be enhanced by adding less than 40% (w/w) aloe gel to chiffon cakes as a substitute for wheat flour.

    • The physicochemical characteristics and consumer perceptions of two Fuji cultivars (Fuji and Royal Fuji) with six different size groups (3D: 30~39, 4D: 40~49, 5D: 50~59, 6D: 60~69, 7D: 70~79, and 8D: 80~89 apples/15 kg) were investigated to identify the ideal size and the drivers of consumer acceptability of apples. For the physicochemical characteristics, the weight, volume, specific volume, L, a, and b colors, hardness, pH, acidity, and brix of apples were measured. A total of 100 consumers were asked to mark the intensity of the characteristics (size, redness, glossiness, surface roughness, apple odor, apple flavor, sweetness, sourness, hardness, crunchiness, and toughness) to determine the ideal characteristics of apples before they were asked to taste the apple products. The consumers evaluated the apple samples in terms of their appearance, odor, flavor, texture, and overall acceptability; the consumers' intent to purchase such apples and willingness to pay for them; and the intensity of the aforementioned characteristics. Compared to the ideal characteristics of apples, the actual apple samples were rated low in their apple odor, apple flavor, acidity, sweetness, hardness, and crispness. The ideal size of the apples was between 4D and 5D. Their overall acceptability was highly affected by their flavor, followed by their texture, odor, and appearance. The acceptability of the appearance was highly correlated with the glossiness (r = 0.80), volume, weight, redness (r = 0.73), and size (r = 0.72). The consumer acceptability of the apples increased with the decreased pH and the increased Brix, hardness, and color b values of the peeled apples. The apple flavor, sweetness, hardness, crispiness, juiciness, and toughness during mastication were noted as sensory drivers of consumer acceptability.

    Annual Variation of Quality in Commercial Rice Produced in Gyeongbuk (경북산 유통 브랜드 쌀의 연차간 품질 변이 분석)

    • Rice quality must certainly be considered as one of the primary preference for consumers. On aspect concerns marketing, such attributes as appearance, physicochemical characteristics, and palatability of brand rice are very important. Therefore this study was carried out to observe the quality of commercial brand rice in Gyeongbuk Province, Korea from 2002 to 2004. In seasonal changes of mean air temperature from early July to middle August, it was lower in 2003 by $0.8{\sim}3.3^{\circ}C$ than that in normal year. Among the rice quality characteristics, the cv of percentage of head rice and palatability (Toyo value) were very low but those of chalky rice and protein content were very high during three years, and the same tendency was also observed among the brands. The average percentages of head rice were 92.5% in 2002, 89.9% in 2003 and 93.3% in 2004, respectively. On the contrary, the percentages of chalky rice were higher in 2003 as 4.9% than those in 2002 (3.9%) and in 2004 (2.8%). These results were caused by the abnormal meteorological conditions in 2003. Due to the higher protein content (8.0%) in 2003, the palatability was deteriorated to 71.0. However the protein content in 2004 was reduced to 7.0% and this result improved the palatability to 77.0.

    • In this study, we have examined how the potential users of IT convergence product use the external information sources for purchasing decision focusing on a case of smartphone. Although the specifications and price of IT convergence products, such as smartphone, tablet pc, and smart TV, are considered as major criteria for purchasing decision, the competitiveness of these factors have disappeared as many companies launch similar products in the market. External information sources play a significant role to differentiate the alternatives by offering value-added experience information. The effect of external information sources becomes stronger for experience and high-involvement product whose performance can be evaluated through only users' direct experience. In this study, we categorized the external information sources for smartphone into five; company ads, personal network, expert group, consumers, and media. Through an empirical study with potential smartphone users, we verified how these external information sources affect users' purchasing decision in the perspective of the perceived attributes of information source, quality of information, and individual's characteristics based on self-regulatory theory.
