As a part of integrated study for technical communication between consumer and manufacturer of functional clothing, functional clothing consumers were categorized based on their perception of the functional outdoor jacket and the differences in the source of information and use of hang-tag were examined according to the groups. Questionnaire survey was conducted on 472 males and females in their 20s to 60s, who have experience of purchasing functional outdoor jackets. Perception of functional outdoor jackets was classified into four factors ('functionality', 'price', 'experience/knowledge' and 'brand/design') and the respondents were categorized into three groups according to the factors: 'unconversant/brand & design pursuing group', 'conversant/function pursuing group' and 'high-priced products preferring group'. 'Unconversant/brand & design pursuing group' was composed of high rate of office workers and students in their 20s and 30s who use internet most frequently as source of information while 'conversant/function pursuing group' was composed of high rate of professionals in their 40s and 50s who make the most frequent use of information on hang-tag. 'High-priced products preferring group', which has high rate of the elderly in their 60s and housewives, obtain their information mainly from salespersons. 'Unconversant/brand & design pursuing group' was satisfied with functional information more than other two groups and 'conversant/function pursuing group' concerned for the hang-tag and required more explanation of terminology used in hang-tag. The results effectively explained the features of consumer groups and their different responses toward the information of functional outdoor jacket.
Recently, design has emerged as a key factor of successful product development. This study reviewed the elements of form with a view point of addressing and defining the elements of aesthetics and how they influence consumer aesthetic response. Though past researches related to form aesthetics reported that form aesthetics exist as a single element with other sub-elements, this research made further investigations into form aesthetics and reported that form aesthetics in product design can be broadly divided into form aesthetics and content aesthetics. Empirical studies on each category was undertaken and from the results obtained, it was concluded that typicality is a dominant element in content aesthetics while balance is a dominant element in form aesthetics. Also, the study investigated the effect of conditional variables such as price and people on each category and it was observed that both content and form aesthetics elements are affected by conditional variables such as price, people. Furthermore, the study reports that both content and form aesthetics elements are mutually correlated and both categories affect user's aesthetics response. It is intended that the results obtained from this work will contribute to theoretical knowledge of aesthetic elements and can be put to use by product design and manufacturing companies.
To improve VMD technology and suggest the comprehensive evaluation method for VMD, this study investigated and compared two methods of VMD evaluations; expert evaluation and questionnaire to consumers. We analyzed VMD factors of 4 stores with the same brand according to purchasing psychological steps of consumers at the purchasing point. The results are following: Customer Attraction and Purchase Stimulus by VMD showed higher scores in road shop than in department stores, while Put-on Imagination and Comparison Process by VMD showed higher scores in department stores than road shop. Visual Satisfaction and Shop Visit Satisfaction increased the purchasing desire of consumers. High-scored VMD shop evaluated by expert had high score in product purchasing intention of consumers. We found out that questionnaire method to consumers or their response is needed for evaluate VMD of shop in terms of analyze possibility of the related to their purchasing intention.
This study is focused on traditional market's competitiveness in Korea. Ever since the Korean retail industry had been opened to the big conglomerates, the traditional markets have faced very serious competition from various types of distribution channels. In particular, this study has been conducted to find another way to help the Korean traditional market from the perspective of college students who are consumers of the future. This study examines the relationships among store choice attributions, consumption emotion, consumer's value, and relationship quality from the perspective of college students. In order to verify the relationship, and moderating and mediating effects, data were collected from 126 college students in Whasung, Gyeonggi Province to test the theoretical model and its hypotheses. The results of this study are as follows: First, service (= .263, p < .01) and advertising (= .188, p < .05) are significantly positively related to relationship quality. However, store atmosphere (= .176, p = .052) is not statistically significantly related to relationship quality. The result that students have stereotypes about the atmosphere of traditional markets and are therefore excluded from their store choice attributions can be expected. Second, college students selected service division (= .230, p < .05) as the most important factor among the traditional market's store choice attributions. This result reflected that enhancing service strategy would strengthen the traditional market against discount stores. The process of product selection by customers in discount stores is based on the concept of self-service. However, traditional market traders can make various contacts with their customers. If traditional market traders can enhance various service factors just like in the process of product selection, it will effect strong competitive advantages. Third, it is also revealed that consumer's value exhibit complete mediation effect in the relationships between service and advertising. These results showed that traditional markets must be considered for consumer value. Because previous studies showed that values refer to "enduring belief that … specific mode of conduct or end-stat of existence … personally or socially preferable to an opposite of converse mode of conduct or end-state of existence" (Rokeach, 1973; George and Jones, 1996). Furthermore, Schwartz (1994) defined values as desirable trans-situational goals, varying in importance, that serve as guiding principles in the life of a person or other social entity. As conceptions of desirable end-states of existence or modes of conduct, values help people choose, evaluate, and give meaning to their experiences (Rokeach, 1973). Efforts (e.g. promote the consumers value) of the traditional market traders will improve the preferences for the traditional market of consumers and college students. Implications and future research directions are also discussed.
This study investigated whether there was a difference in off-line consumption behavior on and off-line. Online surveys were conducted on 218 people aged 20 to 59 who live in the country actively using Instagram, and the results of analysis through technical statistical analysis, logistic regression analysis, and linear regression analysis are as follows. There are some differences in the consumption items and expenditures of showing consumption behavior on Instagram and showing consumption in real space. In addition, there were different factors influencing the behavior of showing off in Instagram and the factors affecting the showing of consumption in real space. Age, education, and narcissism have an effect on show off behavior in Instagram, whereas age, materialism, and narcissism have been identified as factors influencing in real space. Whether on Instagram or in the real space, the positive emotions felt by consumers after showing off consumption had a statistically significant effect on consumer happiness. This study has significance in that it has empirically verified the difference between Instagram and actual consumption behaviors, and sought the direction of healthy consumption behaviors for consumer happiness.
This study is to verify effects of banner advertising by context effect in web contents. For this, it analyzed the effects of banner advertising by association of internet article's contents, emotion, difficulty of article and the level of involvement. According to the result of experimental design, banner advertising effects by context effects of web contents were high in the following cases; in the case when the contents were highly associated with banner advertising; in the case when the positive emotions were formed by the internet article; in the case when the difficultly of article was low; and in the case when consumer's involvement was high. And also, when the contents were highly associated with the advertising, the content effects of web contents were high even in the case when the negative emotions were formed; in the case when the difficulty of article was high; and consumer's involvement was low.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the consumer sensibility according to the arrangement and area-ratio of a stripe, and the necktie width. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimuli and necktie sensibility scales. The stimuli were 27 color pictures, in which the necktie width(narrow, medium, wide), stripe arrangement(horizontal, vertical, oblique), and stripe area-ratio(1:1, 1:2, 1:3) were manipulated. The 7-point scale was used for the consumere sensibility. Data were obtained from 270 men and women in their 20s and 30s living in Seoul, Gwangju, Daegu, Jinju, and Changwon on November 2011. For the data analysis, ANOVA and Duncan-test were used by using SPSS program. Results of this study were as follows.; The factors of consumer sensibility according to the arrangement and area-ratio of a stripe, and the necktie width consisted of five dimensions of attractiveness, grace, individuality, ability, and activity. The necktie width showed an independent effect on attractiveness and grace. The stripe arrangement showed an independent effect on attractiveness, grace, individuality, and ability. The stripe area-ratio showed an independent effect on grace. Also, interaction effects of the necktie width and stripe area-ratio on ability were found. The study results are highly expected to be used as valuable sources in plans for necktie products.
The aim of this study was to investigate effective expression method of performance information of functional clothing and preferred alternatives for the categorized consumer groups according to the perception about the functional outdoor jacket. 472 males and females in their 20s-60s' were surveyed and their answers were analysed and categorized by using SPSS 21.0 statistical program. For the study, four different expression methods for waterproof & breathable fabric, 'illustration only', 'illustration+Korean text', 'illustration+foreign text', and 'chart with Korean text', were presented and asked for finding correct answers. The analysis was done for three categorized consumer groups from the former study, 'unconversant/brand & design pursuing group', 'conversant/function pursuing group' and 'high price/high function preferring group'. The results showed that regardless of groups, 'picture only' was the most preferred method and 'graph' was the least. However, the percentage of correct answers for the 'graph' was the biggest, especially for 'conversant/function pursuing group'. It implied that the effective expression method should be differentiated depending on the target consumer groups. 'Conversant/function pursuing group' more agreed on the need for additional information, such as 'after-washed performance', than other two groups.
With the development and proliferation of three-dimensional(3D) printers, consumers in modern society can now print products of what they want three-dimensionally at home. However, consumers themselves would have to produce digital design maps that are compatible with 3D printers and to set up the optimum printing quality and temperature, as well as to pay for maintenance and repair of 3D printers and to respond to any possible lawsuits related to intellectual property right about designs in order to make possible consumer-tailored manufacturing through 3D printing. However, in reality, since it is very difficult for consumers to respond to these issues, it is necessary to develop services that perform 3D printing on behalf of consumers in the desired direction. Motivated by this objective, this study investigated user experiences on Shapeways(www.shapeways.com), which is a global online 3D printing product and sales companies, from many viewpoints in order to obtain insight into 3D printing services and modes which were preferred by consumers. The study result showed that quantitative evaluations on usability, search process, price adequacy, re-visit intention, diversity of design, and satisfaction of design was scored low overall. Furthermore, this study acquired insight about consumer-tailored 3D printing services through constructive suggestions on multi-language support, openness of manufacturing process, simultaneous operation of online and offline sites, design-oriented consumer-tailored manufacturing service, services that ensure delivery safety and product durability, and surface finishing services. This study is expected to provide a wide range of opinions not only on 3D printing service platform development but also on related industry and research.

Mukbang, which has established itself as a popular content, is now enjoying a sensational popularity not only in Korea but also around the world. This study investigated the effects of mukbang on consumers' vicarious satisfaction and desire increase in different emotional aspects. In addition, we analyzed how the positive and negative emotions of consumers affect the vicarious satisfaction and desire increase of mukbang. According to this purpose, 120 participants in their 20s and 30s who had experienced watching mukbang were encouraged to watch mukbang videos after inducing positive, negative, and neutral emotions, and the effects of vicarious satisfaction and increased desire depending on emotions were examined. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that vicarious satisfaction through mukbang was high in positive emotional states, and desire through mukbang was high in negative emotional states. This study has a theoretical contribution that empirically investigates the different effects of mukbang according to positive and negative emotions, and is expected to help derive marketing measures using consumer emotional states that have not been received enough attention in using mukbang as a marketing tool.
