A Survey on the Indoor Temperature and Power Consumption of Domestic Refrigerator (가정용 냉장고의 고내온도 및 전력소비 실태조사)

  • In this study, if the set temperature of the refrigerator differs from the set temperature of the refrigerator, the temperature distribution of food in the refrigerator is estimated by measuring the temperature in the refrigerator and in the refrigerator room. In addition, based on the set temperature of the refrigerator and the freezer, the temperature range of the heat is large and the time required to recover to the set temperature is to be determined. And the optimal setting temperature for home refrigerators is to be shown by measuring the amount of power consumed to recover to the set temperature. As a result, the conditions in which the temperature in the freezer realized $-18^{\circ}C$ were only appropriate in case 3, Case 6, Case 8, and Case 9 when the set temperature in the refrigerator was lower than that in the freezer. Under these conditions, the minimum temperature in the refrigerator was $-1.1^{\circ}C$, Case 6 was $-1.5^{\circ}C$, Case 8 was $-1.1^{\circ}C$ and Case 9 was $-0.8^{\circ}C$, respectively. Also, the total power consumption during the 10 hours operation time of each case was greater than the setting temperature of the freezer and the refrigerator except case 4, since case 4 started operation around 13:30 in the morning.

Operational Properties and Microbial Inactivation Performance of Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Treatment System (유전체장벽방전 플라즈마 장치의 조작특성과 살균력)

  • A dielectric barrier discharge plasma (DBDP) treatment system was fabricated and the optimum operating conditions for the plasma generation were determined in order to explore the potential of cold plasma as a non-thermal proessing technology. The microbial inactivation performance of the system was also evaluated against Staphyloocus aureus. The system consisted of power supply, transformer, electrode assembly and sample treatment plate. The input power was 220 V single phase AC and amplified to 10.0-50.0 kV on a transformer. A pulsed sine wave of frequency 10.0-50.0 kHz was introduced to the electrode embedded in ceramic as a dielectric barrier material in order to generate plasma at atmospheric pressure. Higher currents and consequently greater power were required for the plasma generation as the frequencies increased. A homogeneous and stable plasma was generated at currents of 1.0-2.0, and frequencies of 32.0-35.3 kHz. The optimum electrode-gaps for the plasma generation were 1.85 mm without loaded samples. More power was consumed as the electrode-gaps increased. The practically optimum electrode- gap was, however, 2.65 mm when samples were treated on slide-glasses for microbial inactivation. The maximum temperature increase after 10 min treatment was less than 20$^{\circ}C$, indicating no microbial inactivation effect by heat and thereby insuring a non-thermal method. The DBDP inactivation effect against Staphyloocus aureus increased linearly with treatment time up to 5 min, but plateaued afterward. More than 5 log reduction was achieved by 10 min treatment at 1.25 A.

Simulation and Sensitivity Analysis of the Air Separation Unit for SNG Production Relative to Air Boosting Ratios (SNG 생산용 공기분리공정의 공기 재 압축비에 따른 민감도 분석)

  • Cryogenic air separation unit produces various gases such as $N_2$, $O_2$, and Ar by liquefying air. The process also varies with diverse production conditions. The one for SNG production among them has lower efficiency compared to other air separation unit because it requires ultrapure $O_2$ with purity not lower than 99.5%. Among factors that reduce the efficiency of air separation unit, power consumption due to compress air and heat duty of double column were representatives. In this study, simulation of the air separation unit for SNG production was carry out by using ASEPN PLUS. In the results of the simulation, 18.21 kg/s of at least 99.5% pure $O_2$ was produced and 33.26 MW of power was consumed. To improve the energy efficiency of air separation unit for SNG production, the sensitivity analysis for power consumption, purities and flow rate of $N_2$, $O_2$ production in the air separation unit was performed by change of air boosting ratios. The simulated model has three types of air with different pressure levels and two air boosting ratio. The air boosting ratio means flow rate ratio of air by recompressing in the process. As increasing the first air boosting ratio, $N_2$ flow rate which has purity of 99.9 mol% over increase and $O_2$ flow rate and purity decrease. As increasing the second air boosting ratio, $N_2$ flow rate which has purity of 99.9 mol% over decreases and $O_2$ flow rate increases but the purity of $O_2$ decreases. In addition, power consumption of compressing to increase in the two cases but results of heat duty in double column were different. The heat duty in double column decreases as increasing the first air boosting ratio but increases as increasing the second air boosting ratio. According to the results of the sensitivity analysis, the optimum air boosting ratios were 0.48 and 0.50 respectively and after adjusting the air boosting ratios, power consumption decreased by approximately 7% from $0.51kWh/O_2kg$ to $0.47kWh/O_2kg$.

An Energy Efficient Cluster Management Method based on Autonomous Learning in a Server Cluster Environment (서버 클러스터 환경에서 자율학습기반의 에너지 효율적인 클러스터 관리 기법)

  • Energy aware server clusters aim to reduce power consumption at maximum while keeping QoS(Quality of Service) compared to energy non-aware server clusters. They adjust the power mode of each server in a fixed or variable time interval to let only the minimum number of servers needed to handle current user requests ON. Previous studies on energy aware server cluster put efforts to reduce power consumption further or to keep QoS, but they do not consider energy efficiency well. In this paper, we propose an energy efficient cluster management based on autonomous learning for energy aware server clusters. Using parameters optimized through autonomous learning, our method adjusts server power mode to achieve maximum performance with respect to power consumption. Our method repeats the following procedure for adjusting the power modes of servers. Firstly, according to the current load and traffic pattern, it classifies current workload pattern type in a predetermined way. Secondly, it searches learning table to check whether learning has been performed for the classified workload pattern type in the past. If yes, it uses the already-stored parameters. Otherwise, it performs learning for the classified workload pattern type to find the best parameters in terms of energy efficiency and stores the optimized parameters. Thirdly, it adjusts server power mode with the parameters. We implemented the proposed method and performed experiments with a cluster of 16 servers using three different kinds of load patterns. Experimental results show that the proposed method is better than the existing methods in terms of energy efficiency: the numbers of good response per unit power consumed in the proposed method are 99.8%, 107.5% and 141.8% of those in the existing static method, 102.0%, 107.0% and 106.8% of those in the existing prediction method for banking load pattern, real load pattern, and virtual load pattern, respectively.

Capture of Carbon Dioxide Emitted from Coal-Fired Power Plant Using Seawater (해수를 이용한 석탄 화력발전소의 이산화탄소 포집 연구)

  • The present paper investigates the availability of seawater as the absorbents to capture carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) emitted from the coal fired power plant (CFPP). For the purpose of the study, readily obtainable alkali materials in CFPP such as coal fly ash (FA), NaOH and $Ca(OH)_2$ are added to seawater to prepare the absorbents and their $CO_2$ capture performances are discussed. FA can be effectively used the additives to increase $CO_2$ capture capacity of seawater to a some extent. This is ascribed that some alkali components in FA are leached into seawater and they contribute to $CO_2$ capture in the solution. However, their leaching amount and rate are restricted by the various ions in seawater. The performance of NaOH added seawater is even lower than that of NaOH added water because $OH^-$ is substantially consumed on $Ma(OH)_2$ production prior to carbonation. $CO_2$ absorption capacity of $Ca(OH)_2$ added seawater is slightly larger than that of $Ca(OH)_2$ added water. This is because that $Ca^{2+}$ which originally present in raw seawater can participate in carbonation reaction.

Physico-Chemical Properties of Starches from Atlantic and Bora Valley Potato Cultivar with Different Colors (색깔이 다른 대서와 보라밸리 감자 전분의 이화학적 특성)

  • Physico-chemical properties of starches from potato cultivars with different colors were investigated. White Atlantic potato had 10% higher starch yield than violet Bora Valley potato. It turned out that the shape and structure of Atlantic and Bora Valley potato starch were the same by mechanical analysis using X-ray and SEM. The ratio of $50\;{\mu}m$ particle in starches from Atlantic and Bora Valley potato was $45.44\pm2.79%$ and $42.37\pm1.03%$ respectively. The particle size of Atlantic potato starch was less than that of Bora Valley; however, there was no significant difference (p<0.05). As for moisture coupling, there was no difference (p<0.05) between the two potatoes. Swelling power showed a high increase from $65^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$. The swelling power of Atlantic starch was higher by about 0.3% than that of Bora Valley at $90^{\circ}C$. Since Atlantic has smaller starch particles than Bora Valley, more starch particles are contained in the same size, and hence a difference in swelling power. As a result of measuring the gelatinization of potato starches from Atlantic and Bora Valley, a higher gelatinization start, climax, and complete temperatures occurred at Bora Valley than Atlantic. As for gelatinization enthalpy, Bora Valley starch with a higher gelatinization temperature consumed more energy for gelatinization.

Public Service Good Health Advertising: Effects of Elaboration Likelihood and Construal Level on Consumer Attitudes (보건 관련 공익광고에서 정교화가능성과 해석수준이 광고태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose - This study aims to accomplish three major research goals. First, it strives to change consumers' focus from peripheral routes to a central route of public service advertising related to the good health policy, without problematic effects, by influencing consumers' knowledge or involvement. Second, this study examines the elaboration likelihood model (ELM) and construal level theory (CLT). Specifically, we consider that the central route of ELM might correspond with the focal goal of CLT. Third, this study analyzes ELM through CLT. That is, ELM predicted that low involvement would take the peripheral route, and high involvement would take the central route. Research design, data, and methodology - This study consisted of three experiments. The first experiment had a 2×2 between-subject design. The subjects were university students and the research period was approximately one year. The first independent variable was the involvement of the overweight issue; this variable was measured and split by the median. The second independent variable was the temporal distance (near vs. distant future); this variable was manipulated. The second experiment also had a 2×2 between-subject design. The first variable was the involvement of cervical adenocarcinoma prevention, and was considered already manipulated by sex. Specifically, males had a low involvement of the disease, but females had high involvement. The second independent variable was priming (power vs. submissive). Power priming would induce abstract thinking, but submissive priming would take concrete processing. The third experiment had a 2×2×2 between-subject design. The first variable was cognitive depletion, and was manipulated by memorizing 9-digit numbers. The second and third independent variables were involvement and abstract thinking induction, such as prior experiments. Data were collected through questionnaires, and were analyzed by an SPSS program. Major hypotheses were tested by examining the interaction effects through ANOVA. Results - Major findings are as follows. First, even for low-involved consumers in the overweight category, distant future manipulation induced them to focus not on the peripheral route but on the central route of the public service advertisement. This result does not correspond to the typical ELM prediction. Second, under power priming, low-involved males of the cervical adenocarcinoma category focused on the peripheral route because of the induction to abstract thinking. This result replicated the first experiment, and confirmed the theoretical robustness. Third, high-involved females focused not on the central but on the peripheral route under the mixed condition of cognitive depletion and near future manipulation. Depletion consumed cognitive resources, and the processing mode of consumers changed from systematic to heuristic. Conclusions - ELM needs to be complemented through CLT in context of public service good health advertising. Specifically, the involvement of ELM may impact consumers' thinking mode (abstract vs. concrete), and the interaction effects may influence consumers' focus on advertising (central vs. peripheral route). This study's limitations were bounded subjects, limited stimuli, and somewhat weak external validity.

Floating Photovoltaic Plant Location Analysis using GIS (GIS를 활용한 수상 태양광 발전소 입지 분석)

  • Global consumption of fossil fuels continues to increase. As developing countries use fossil fuel as much as the existing fossil fuel using countries, the total amount of fossil fuel consumed has risen. The finite fossil energy depletion insecurity have become serious. In addition, fossil energy is caused by environmental pollution, economic and social problems remain in assignments that need to be addressed. Although solar power is clean and has many benefits, there are several problems in the process of installing a solar power plant. To solve these problems, floating photovoltaic plants has emerged as an alternative. This floating photovoltaic plants location analysis has not been made yet. In this study, the conditions of the floating photovoltaic plants location is analyzed with the Analytic Hierarchy Process using the terrain and climate factors. The score is assigned to the attribute information of each factor by the classification table. After multiplied by the weight the result is analyzed by visualization of the score. As the result, the score of the northen part of Gyeongsangbuk-do province is higher than the southern part of Gyeongsangbuk-do province. Especially Andongho lake in Andong City and the reservoir in Yeongyang-Gun are extracted as the optimal location. The score of the river boundary is low not the center of the river stream. It is expected that this study would be a more accurate floating solar power plant location analysis.

Current Calculation Simulation Model for Smartgrid-based Energy Distribution System Operation (스마트 그리드 기반 에너지 시스템 운영을 위한 배전계통 조류계산 시뮬레이션 모델 개발)

  • The future energy consumption pattern will show a very different pattern from the present due to the increase of distributed power sources such as renewable energy and the birth of the concept of prosumers, etc. Accordingly, it can be predicted that the direction of establishment of an appropriate production and supply plan considering the stability and consumption efficiency of the entire power grid will also be different from now. This paper proposes a simulation model that can test a new operational strategy when faced with a number of possible future environments. Through the proposed model, it is possible to simulate and analyze power consumed and supplied in a future Smart Grid environment, in which a large amount of new concepts including energy storage service (ESS) and distributed energy resources (DER) will be added. In particular, it is possible to model complex systems structurally by using DEVS formalism among the ABM (Agent-Based Model) methodologies that can model decision-making for each agent existing in the grid, and several factors can be easily added to the grid. The simulation model was verified using given dataset in the current situation, and scenario analysis was performed by simply adding an ESS, one of the main elements of the smart grid, to the model.

Comparison of detergency effectiveness by the type of household washer, detergent and soil - Focused on detergency, rinsing, fabric damage and tanglement - (가정용 세탁기, 세제 및 오염의 종류별 세탁 성능 비교 - 세탁성, 헹굼성, 섬유손상도, 엉킴도를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this research is to provide accurate information of household washers and detergents for consumers, so that help the producers who make washing machine and detergent to get basic material and also help consumers to choose washing machine. Experiment was proceed with two type of washers to compare energy consumption, washing performance, rinsing effectiveness further, damage caused by entanglement of laundry and fabric was assessed. Detergent P and T were used to compare the performance related to differences of ingredients of detergent. Soiled fabrics of EMPA 108 set were used to evaluate performance of washing by different types of contamination. A summary of experimental results are : First, for the consumption of water, drum-type washer consumed 53% less than pulsator-type washer. On the other hand, the washing time was almost similar for both these machines, but pulsator-type washer showed shorter progress, implying that power saving was more efficient in this case. Second, the drum-type washer showed better performance for contamination with all types of detergent, but the pulsator-type washer showed better rinsing performance. Third, the drum-type washer performed less data of tangle level and fabric damage. Fourth, detergent "P" exhibited better washing performance than did detergent "T", regardless of the type of soil. And with no limit of detergent variety, water-soluble protein soil showed high removal rate, liposoluble soil especially pigment was hardly removed.
