  • Prestressed concrete (PSC) is a method in which prestressed tendon is placed inside and/or outside the reinforced concrete member and the compressive force applied to the concrete in advance to enhance the engineering properties of concrete member which is weak under tension. In this paper we suggested the precast PSC girder assembled with segments of portable size and weight at the factory. The segments of precast PSC girder will be delivered and assembled as a unit of PSC girder at the site. Consequently, we suggested new-type of precast segmented PSC girder with different shapes of segment cross-section (i.e., I-shape, Box-shape). To mitigate the problems associated with the field splice between the segments of precast PSC girder anchor system is attached near the neutral axis of the girder and relatively uniform compression throughout the girder cross-section is applied. Prior to the experimental investigation, analytical investigation on the structural behavior of precast PSC girder was performed and the serviceability (deflection) and safety (strength) of the girder were confirmed. In addition, 4-point bending test on the girder was conducted to investigate the structural performance under bending. From the experimental investigation, it was found that the precast PSC girder spliced with 3 and 5 segments has sufficient in serviceability and safety conditions and it was also observed that the point where the segments spliced has no defects and the girder behaves as a unit.

  • By the expanding of infrastructure caused by urbanization, new technologies are required to manage various kinds of facilities. GIS has been appraised as valuable technology for facilities management since the 1990s. Therefore, the long and mid term GIS construction plan has been established by the national government and the local government. Some facilities management systems have been built and developed for suppling user-friendly functions. From this point of view, the information system based on the video sequences is considered a more effective way to improve the defects of conventional GIS using the digital map or the image as the base map. Using the video sequences as a base map, the availability of the system ill be increased because the real world information can be furnished to the users. In this study, through the connection between the GIS data, the digital map and the attribute data, and the video sequences taken from the airship using the video geo-referencing and the object tracking, we developed the facilities management system as a prototype which can effectively manage the road utilities. We also presented potentialities of the suggested system for facility management based on the video sequences.

  • This study is an evaluation of the water-tightness properties of rain-block systems in the sliding-roof joint of large-span membrane structures. In this study, we suggested a method of evaluating the water-tightness performance of the joint part of a sliding door in the roof of a large-span membrane structure (for a pilot project), in an environment of rain and wind. The shape of the rainwater blocking systems of the joint part in a sliding door verifies the defects and the effects of water leakage prevention when there is precipitation with wind conditions. To secure the water-tightness of large span membrane structures, it is necessary to have a guideline on the evaluation of the design for rain-block system of the joint part, and the quality of the membrane material, both of a retractable roof and a closed roof.

  • A library for the civil engineering field goes on increasing in quantity because of the growth in construction technology and the enlargement in applicable fields of civil engineering. Most of libraries and information centers in construction companies are using Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) or Korean Decimal Classification (KDC) to classify a library in civil engineering field. It is necessary for the library classification system to be equipped with a more standardized code system, which corresponds to the academical and technical classification for the civil engineering works. This study analyzes the defects of existing classification systems, and then suggests a new classes and divisions classification system, which facilitates to link academic information with technical data, for the civil engineering field. The proposed system is expected to make practical application of information classification system in the construc ion industry and to be applied for the revised edition of KDC.

  • Through field surveys and evaluation on several widened concrete pavements, issues on construction and design related problems are broken down into three categories to be discussed; poor smoothness, influence of traffic vibration on concrete curing, and poor connection to the existing pavement. There are many places where about 100mm only of the marginal strip is removed and where defects such as widening and faulting are observed. Also cracks arise again from the patched areas due to stress concentration near the joint. Roughness on the widened concrete pavement was evaluated and there are some stations where the smoothness limit is over passed. For design consideration, shortage of the required force in the tie-bar is expected in case of road widening specially from 3 lanes to 4 lanes. Finally the average pull-out force of specimens made from the current practice was about 57% of the required force. New connecting methods were suggested in this study.

  • In this study, we have intended to provide the related construction manuals with technical materials and to reduce the defects in the on-site construction, with reviewing the adhesive properties of joint parts according to change of temperature and speed of hot-air sealer for the products that have been made of polyvinyl chloride(PVC) materials in the single waterproof sheet. The result from the experiment is shown as following. 1) Bond strength was shown as high as the welding speed became slower. For the hot-air welding velocity with 3~6m/min, a stable bond strength has been shown in the range of the hot-air welding temperature with $175{\sim}210^{\circ}C$, while it has been shown in the range of the hot-air welding temperature with $210^{\circ}C$, when the hot-air welding velocity is between 9~12m/min. 2) If the hot-air welding temperature is lower, the adhesive strength has been shown as higher in the section where the hot-air welding velocity is low, while the adhesive strength has been also shown as higher in the section where the velocity is fast as the hot-air welding temperature becomes higher. The highest bond strength has been shown in the velocity with 3m/min for the hot-air welding temperature with $140{\pm}10^{\circ}C$, which is rather low. At $175{\pm}10^{\circ}C$, a high bond strength has been shown in the velocity with 3~6m/min, while the high bond strength has been shown in the velocity with 6~9m/min at $210{\pm}10^{\circ}C$.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the actual utilization rate of the deposit for defect repair of apartment complexes and its influential factors. We analyzed the data on enforced defect deposit cases by using one-sample t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and simple linear regression analysis. The difference between the deposit amount specified and the enforcement amount actually disbursed was found to about 0.51%. The change rates for short-term costs amounted approximately to $839KRW/m^2$ and 130,000 KRW/household per year, and those for long-term costs were $647KRW/m^2$ and 123,207 KRW/household per year. The results warrant the need for further research on establishing a deposit amount based on actual statistical data.

  • The purpose of this study is to find decisive factors affecting Share-styled Apartment house Lee Myung-bak announced for the homeless masses in February 2008. This policy tried to add up defects from Half-priced Apartment house enforced in 2007. Seoul is ranked as the highest PIR(Price Income Rate) city in the world, as far as the difficulties in getting own house is concerned. Korean government has announced a lot of policies to control the price of real-estate, especially housing bubble phenomenon, since the convalescence from IMF financial crisis. By making questionnaires to get an important factor and taking counsel with related specialists, this thesis found what kind of roles the objects including government, institutions and people should play or focus on.

  • Under the law of Management of Apartment Complexes, the Apartment Supplier should satisfy the demands of residents for the repair of defects found in Apartment Housing. But in the cost of defect repair, the expense of resident complaints is not included, and only the actual defect repair expense is counted. So in this study, the actual use state of defect deposits for 3 years after moving in is analyzed based on the actual use data of 39 apartment complexes. The study shows that more than 50% of defect repair deposits are spent to satisfy expenses arising from complaints by residents. This is not only caused by irrational demands of residents, but also by the adoption of a stopgap policy by Apartment Suppliers.
