  • After the introduction of CM(construction management) for improving productability in construction industry, the CM market was shown to actively grow shape until 2007 but suddenly appears passive movement of the market after in 2008. However, on one hand, the CM corporations has increased, because the construction supervision market come to the CM market area by reduction their work place. Because of this, it was discussed that will intensify competition between companies in the CM market. Therefore, this paper want to analyze to status of the CM market structure for studying about the CM industry status and change during last 3 years. As a result, by decreasing the Market concentration, the CM market competition rate did not too high with business despite that CM market downsize and has been increased the number of companies.

  • In order to achieve structural performance such as rebar clear spacing in the reinforced concrete structure construction, coupler splicing joints are becoming common. To confirm the performance of rebar splicing joints, quality verification is being carried out through coupler specimen tests. However, it can be said that the required performance is reached only when the actual construction in the field is constructed under the same conditions as the coupler splicing joint specimen. Therefore, the problems and solutions of the coupler splicing joint construction of the actual field was investigated in this study.

  • Although the utilization of drone photogrammetry that can generate spatial information using ultra-high-resolution images is increasing in the civil engineering and construction fields, analysis of areas that can be used is insufficient. Therefore, this study attempted to determine how far drone photogrammetry can be used in the civil engineering and construction fields by applying a detailed analysis method. The status map and cross-sectional map were actually vectorized using drone photogrammetry outcomes, compared and analyzed with the results acquired in the field, and the qualitative aspects of traffic safety facilities were analyzed to determine their usability. As a result, the accuracy of the plane position using drone photogrammetry was reliable, but the height accuracy was difficult to trust. Accordingly, although there is a possibility of preparing a status map, the use of it in areas requiring high accuracy such as cross-sectional plans was limited, and it is believed that it can be used in the construction management field where qualitative analysis is conducted.

  • The construction accidents which had been on the downward trend for the past decades have increased for five consecutive years since 2008. In order to let the increasing trend of construction accident slow growing or switching to decline, various efforts are required of all members in construction industry such as government, employers, construction engineers, safety managers, construction workers, etc. Although the criteria for appointment of safety managers in construction site introduced in 1982 have contributed to prevent construction accident as a forefront for the past 30 years, it has not been a remarkable improvement in the safety manager's status and roles which have been required to change according to the changes of circumstances and environments. In associated with a newly introduced the criteria for appointment of health managers in construction site in the year 2015, the problems such as role, status, number of safety and health managers are needed to be considered comprehensively and improved widely. In this study, we propose several improvement plans which will improve the current criteria for appointment of safety and health managers in construction sites.

  • To assessment the disturbances of the Namgang caused by dam construction, upstream area was selected for the reference reach and downstream area was selected for the comparison reach. And these reaches were surveyed and analyzed according to the assessment criteria of the river disturbances. The artificial factors of river disturbances were classified as river improvement works, dam construction and aggregate dredging. The indexes were physical factors as like epifaunal (bottom), embeddedness, velocity/depth regime, sediment deposition, channel flow status, channel alteration, frequency of riffles, bank stability, vegetative protection, riparian zone etc.The assessment results showed 46% of the assessment criteria which was serious status in dam downstream area and 89.5% of it which was excellent status in dam upstream. Finally, the results showed that physical river environment in downstream area was disturbed by the discharge control and the interception of sediment discharge by dam, consequently this disturbance give rise to impact of ecosystem in river.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of claim management process of general contractors in South Korea. As the claim management becomes more important nowadays, maintaining the process for claim management systematically and consistently becomes more important as well. To improve the claim management process, it is necessary to diagnose the current status of claim management process so companies establish their targets for improvement. This study develops a survey to identify the current status of claim management process that major general contractors in South Korea have. Questions in the survey are classified into four categories including entitlement check, potential claim event check, time bar check, and tasks for substantiation. By conducting a series of statistical analyses with 94 survey data collected from employees working in the general contractor companies in South Korea, this study examines and analyzes their claim management process in terms of the several categories. It is expected that the results contribute to diagnosing how practitioners maintain their claim management, which will help them establish the direction of management enhancement.

  • Modular construction is a process in which a building is produced off-site in module boxes using standard materials. Since the introduction of prefabrication in building construction, Modular Coordination (MC) has become an essential design tool in building design and construction. However, in Korea, the design standardization has not been adequately applied to modular construction. This study intends to analyze the current status of modular construction in Korea and explore the applicability of MC design in the construction industry. The analysis of the current status of MC design within Korean four major modular construction companies indicates that an incremental dimension is not properly used in horizontal planning modules, which results in a problem of increasing construction cost by high material loss rate. But, in vertical planning modules, a incremental dimension of 100 mm (1 M) is found to be used although the structural system varies among manufacturers, which demonstrates the potential for an open system to be well applied in modular construction, despite different structural systems.
