  • As contemporary building construction type is getting higher and deeper, construction equipment usage is getting more, and related fatal accidents are on an increasing trend. In these days, due to the deteriorating construction business circumstance, job finding problem of equipment operator, and dumping contract, equipment lease suppliers are putin jeopardy. In high-rise building construction, especially tower crane, mobile elevated work platform and other High place operation cars among construction equipment cause many critical accidents because of drop supply of construction biding bringing out dumping contract could cause unsafe and poor construction management. Because of this, a method was drawn which could grasp the present state of construction equipment management and manage safety of the equipment more easily for accident prevention by choosing 2 kinds of Construction equipment which cause safety accident frequently among the equipment mainly used in construction site. This study suggested a method about construction equipment safety management using "smart phone" base which could be used in safety management for construction equipment by whomever in construction site. After attachment of QR code included safety checklist, It became possible that site managers could check more efficiently by scanning with their smart phone when they inspect equipment. Moreover, by the construction interested who didn't know what and how they have to inspect could point out unsafe condition in the early stage of equipment entering or take unsafe one out of the site by using new smart phone safety checking system is installed, it became possible that critical accident caused by construction equipment was prevented in advance.

  • Construction companies find it increasingly necessary to reduce the cost as the construction market has been suffering from a depression and the industrial environment has been changing fast lately. The cost cut demands the productivity management of the field operations, which can be made feasible by assigning an appropriate number of managers on the construction site. However, previous studies are focused on the labor productivity and construction companies take into account only the revenue per worker in organizing the staff. The purpose of this study is to research the model for calculating the field management manpower in accordance with the characteristic of project and site conditions which are usually considered in the beginning of the construction project. The data about apartment building projects of domestic large constructors and factors related to them were statistically analyzed. The results of this study can be used to calculate the necessary field management manpower in accordance with the characteristic of project.

  • The purpose of this study is to reduce the accident rate by introducing a safety system for small construction sites belonging to local governments. In the case of a small construction site, permission is granted through the building permission department and the construction management of the building safety management of 1,000 square meters of floor area less than 3 stories is not properly performed in the Enforcement Decree of the Building Act of Korea. In the current state of industrial accidents in 2016, 81.8% of all accident victims are found to be vulnerable to accident such as those occurring at work places with less than 50 employees. Considering the fact that the construction work with less than 5 billion KRW of the construction cost in Korea generates the most deaths, it is time to introduce the safety and health system of local governments.

  • Deck-plates are widely used on construction sites, and have the advantage of enabling contractors to achieve a relatively uniform quality. But nevertheless, quality deviation in deck-plate construction can occur as the result of differences in site conditions and the experience of crew workers. In this study, the authors present a site quality evaluation prototype for building deck-plate construction. Through analyses of case studies and interviews with experts, standard quality check sheets and a quality management index were developed by estimating the importance of quality check items based on a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method. The applicability and effectiveness of the prototype was evaluated through a case study and interviews with case participants. It was found that the prototype promoted an active quality management as a way of continuously improving quality management in deck-plate construction instead of passive quality inspection practice.

  • Many work-related risk factors can cause construction site hazards. Considering variable and changeable characteristics of construction site, risk of same trade can be different by combination of inherent characteristics. But established safety management has performed like other industries not reflecting characteristics of construction. So, to suggest risk assessment methodology considering risk influence factors in construction site, this study extracts risk influence factors by literature reviews and surveys, builds the weighting system for classification of factors. And risk of trade is calculated based on frequency and severity of risk. Risk assessment methodology is suggested by integrating risk influence factors and risk of trade. From this, risk considering the conditions of construction sites can be derived and based on the derived risk, safety management can be performed more effectively. This study has meaning for assessing the risk which can reflect characteristics of construction site considering risk influence factors.

  • The coordination and control of construction projects is vital if a project is to be a success. Almost all analysis has shown that these can only be achieved if good quality communication can be maintained on a construction site. This research focuses on the role that tablet computers could play in enhancing this communication. The following points are investigated in this paper: (a) Whether a tablet computer can enable users to monitor project progress more efficiently than traditional methods, (b) How the tablet computer fits within the project management iron triangle in construction, (c) The two different psychological impacts of information transmission for the end user using a tablet computer (i) The expectancy to transmit information frequently and rapidly from tablet computer users to project members whilst working onsite (ii) The mode of information transmission to the cognition of the transmitted information to the tablet computer. Through the use of structured interviews and questionnaires, the opinions of individuals within various disciplines in construction were canvassed. The approach adopted in this paper deals with understanding both the soft and hard issues for deploying such a system. This research enabled the authors to develop a base framework incorporating the key factors which are relevant for implementing a tablet computer based on information flows primarily.

  • Recently, carelessness on safety management in construction sites has caused a sharper upward trend in accidents and disasters, compared to the past. Therefore, this study analyzes the causes of accidents that occurred on construction sites in the year of 2007, and proposes preventive measures. The construction industry had a heavy death rate with 279 out of 418 deaths from falls in all industrial sites, accounting for 66.7%. And the causation analysis found a particularly high incidence of temporary structure-related accidents, with falling off scaffolding as the most common cause of accidents. According to the causation analysis of fall-down accident cases, accidents induced by protrusion on construction sites are a big contributor resulting in the deaths of 312, accounting for 74.8%, which is deemed to be due to site disorderliness. And to remove floor protrusions and to secure workers' traffic line and safety, neat and thorough site arrangement is necessary. Against collision, efforts must be made to prevent equipment-pedestrian crashes on site, which necessarily requires emergency lamps, alarm bells, and safety poles and blocks to be installed, lighting systems to be improved, obstacles to be removed, site supervisors to be assigned to construction equipment works, and workers to be more intensely trained and supervised.
