  • The aim of this article is to determine the influence of factors on the capital structure of construction companies listed on the Hanoi Stock Exchange. The data of the article were collected and calculated from the financial statements of 54 construction companies listed on Hanoi Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2019. With the application of E-view software in quantitative analysis to build panel data regression model (panel data), the article has built a regression model to determine the relationship of intrinsic factors affecting the capital structure of construction companies listed on Hanoi Stock Exchange. In the study, dependent variable is capital structure, determined by the debt-to-equity ratio. Profitability, coefficient of solvency, size, loan interest rate, structure of tangible assets, and growth are independent variables. The results showed that the two factors of growth and firm size positively affect the capital structure, the profitability factor has the opposite effect on capital structure. Factors of short-term debt solvency, average loan interest rate and tangible asset structure have no correlation with capital structure. The findings of this article are useful for business administrators, helping business managers make the right financial decisions to make capital structure decisions in their own conditions.

  • This study examined the certification effects of safety and health management system (SHMS) on the establishment level of SHMS and accident statistics in construction industry. This study obtained the establishment level of SHMS for 106 construction companies surveyed from our previous study. In addition, three major accident statistics (mortality rate, accidental mortality rate, and injury rate) for the companies were collected from the database in Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency. The statistical analysis results revealed that the establishment level for SHMS certified companies was significantly higher than those for uncertified or certification preparing companies. Furthermore, SHMS certified companies showed significantly smaller accident statistics compared to uncertified or certification preparing companies. The results of this study support the positive effects of SHMS on reducing major industrial accidents in construction companies.

  • A pilot-scale test for production of biogas was conducted in an specially designed anaerobic digester (KH-ABC) in which the highly concentrated organic waste (food-waste and piggery-manure) was treated. The effect of inhibitive material to the reaction on anaerobic digestion and the feasibility of digested fluid for the liquefied fertilizer were investigated. The production rate of biogas, the concentration of methane($CH_4$) in biogas, and the digesting rate of volatile solid(VS) were analyzed in the variance of the operating conditions ; the influent rate, the mixture ratio of food waste and piggery manure, and the hydraulic retention time(HRT), etc. The production rate of biogas increased from 1.2 to $2.0kg-VS/m^3{\cdot}d$ with the organic loading rate(OLR). The most suitable operating conditions were recorded at $6m^3/day$ of an influent rate, 2:3 of the raw material mixture ratio(food waste : piggery manure) and 25 days of HRT, respectively. Under those conditions, the production rate of biogas, the concentration of methane($CH_4$) in biogas and the digesting rate of volatile solid(VS) were $220m^3/day$, 64%, and 70%, respectively. The concentration of inhibitive materials was below toxic standard and the anaerobic digested fluid(raw material mixture ratio of 3:7) could meet the condition of the liquefied fertilizer.

And the performance of labor input was collected in the amount of construction work performed on a monthly basis. After changing the construction period in the standardization work that is 100% of the construction period, the amount was converted into labor ratio by type. Analysis of the input flow rate and the amount of labor conclusions were as follows: (1) The size of the labor rate is reinforced concrete work (38.25%), plastering work (5.10%), internal work (5.67%), equipment work (9.10%), electrics communication (8.76%), the other works (33.12%) and the size of labor rate is the largest work in reinforced concrete work. (2) The peak of labor input ratio was from 52.5% month to 62.5% month. This was when the labor rate of 3.6%. (3) The period month of the largest labor ratio% is 35% month by reinforced concrete construction, and this time it was 2.12% per month labor rate, and reinforced concrete construction is finishing from 65% month to 80% month. This showed the greatest congestion of mutual interference between each works is being continue. The results of this study are the greatest congestion in apartment housing construction has informed the high period(%months), which is essential to a successful project.

  • The stagnation of unsold houses is recently aggravated due to domestic and overseas crisis of finance and real-sector economy and domestic housing construction is in serious difficulty. Thus, tax support is necessary for national housing construction. Due to the current tax exemption system of national housing, V.A.T. paid in the construction of national housing is not deducted. Namely, it is ascribed to consumer as it is reflected in the construction cost. This research intends to analyze the limit of V.A.T. tax exemption system, to present the necessity of applying zero rate and to calculate the scale of non-deduction of V.A.T. purchase tax amount for national housing by analyzing the construction site of apartment house of house constructor in order to analyze the effect of zero rate when it is applied on the basis of above ground. In the zero rate system, V.A.T. is not collected from the consumers like the present tax exemption system. However, the purchase tax amount borne in the construction of national housing is deducted totally. As purchase tax is deducted, constructor will promote supplying national housing thanks to the effect of solving financial difficulties and improving liquidity. Since the architecture cost and parceling-out price can be lowered due to the improved liquidity of constructor, the policy will actually help the people without house.

  • The 7,993 cases of Survey Report of Fatal Industrial Accidents conducted jointly by the MEOL and the KOSHA for the recent seven years(2007-2013) were categorized according to personal and occupational characteristics, industry types, business sizes, job types, activities at the time accident, types of accidents, material agents(assailing materials), unsafe conditions, and unsafe acts. And it is found that among the 72.2 percent of fatal occupational accidents in the construction and manufacturing industries are caused by falling, sticking, bumping and being caught under objects & overturning. For this study, through the empirical analysis on causes of fatal industrial accidents, was used to identity high risk groups based on total data of 7,993 victims of occupational accidents. An annual fatal occupational injury (FOI) rate per 10,000 workers was about 0.47‱. The middle-aged group and the elderly group showed the highest FOI rates per 10,000 workers (0.73‱, 0.80‱), and the daily workers showed the highest FOI rate (1.46‱), and the craft and related trades workers showed the highest FOI rate (2.17‱). In case of industry type the mining industry (7.26‱) showed the highest FOI rate, followed by the sewerage, waste management, materials recovery and remediation activity industry (3.91‱) and the construction industry (2.71‱). The primary high risk target group that requires a strategy designed to reduce fatal occupation injuries caused by falling and bumping & contact(collision) is the construction industry, and the secondary high risk target group in the construction industry is classified as the equipment, machine operating and assembling workers in the construction industry, those aged 50 years old and above need the prevention measures against bumping & contact(collision) and being caught under an object & falling(objects), while those aged less than 50 years old need prevention measures against falling(persons).

  • Comparatively, the construction industry has, on average, a higher rate of fatal and major injuries, work induced ill-health and damage to properties than other industrial sectors; and this is a source of concern to industry stakeholders. The study showed that although subcontracting could be contributory to an increase in workplace accidents in the construction industry, contractual aspects of subcontracting arrangements (such as the power imbalance that exist along the client-customer interface) also present opportunities for improvements in health and safety management (HSM) practices in organisations. This conclusion was reached after an analysis of a questionnaire survey (with a 27% response rate) that assessed the attitudes and perception to health and safety issues.

  • Since construction materials have been towards larger and heavier, the rate of accident associated with installation works of heavy construction materials is increasing. Installation works of heavy construction materials lead to frequent accidents, increasing the WMSDs(Work-Related Musculo-Skeletal Disorders) in construction site. In case of installation work of heavy glass ceiling, the rate of accidents such as falling and collision is increasing as well. This paper describes a ergonomic design of working platform(deck) in a glass ceiling installation robot. As well as, a design of working process is considered to accomplish an efficient installation work. As a result of the design, an installation work of heavy glass ceiling by the robot will be expected safety assurance and retrenchment of the construction cost and period.

  • When widening or repairing concrete deck slab, there is a joint inevitably. However, joining-construction method have following problem, that is the additional stress in existing part of bridge resulting from the specific process of joining-construction and the difference of amount of shrinkage between new and existing bridge. On this study, compared shrinkage stress of the direct joining construction method with the indirect joining construction method, and concluded the proper substitution rate of expansion cement. The rate of replacement was proper at $10\%$. but more than $15\%$, concrete had excessive expansion and weeker compressive strength. The time of placing closure concrete, considering the shinkage stresses and creep, was suitable in $45\~60$ days after placing the new concrete deck slab.
