  • The construction failures can be decreased through continuous improvement of construction process based upon the information of construction failures. Herein, the information of construction failures can be utilized as the key factor for identifying and enhancing various ineffective construction processes that can prevent failures. This research proposes a process model for the continuous improvement of construction processes by using construction failure information. Extensive reviews and analyses of literatures related to construction failures are performed to investigate its definition, type, cause, and lessons learned. This research adapts process modeling methodology and case-based reasoning for the development of the proposed CIMCP(continuous improvement model of construction process), and then suggests its framework that contains modules of case retrieval, case index, and case adaptation.

  • Process management techniques are highly important in the construction industry. However, indicators or details of assessment which will show process management and its performance are still very insufficient. In particular, it is true that local corporations or small and medium sized companies suffer more difficulties than ones in metropolitan areas. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare a flexible process management and performance assessment system suited to field situations. This study identified problems of local small and medium sized companies, implemented a process and performance management system using the Lean concept, and systemized a web-based system. Also, the study proposed operational strategies so that small and medium construction companies may access and use the system easily. This will ensure the competitiveness of local small and medium sized companies, will pursue visible outcomes such as construction period reduction and construction cost reduction, and will be utilized as data related to performance assessment both during construction progress and after construction.

  • Construction companies are fulfilled in according to project, and it is difficult to execute the standardized process in various construction projects. Thus many construction companies is adopting BPM(Business Process Management) that meet business process change and business improvement. However, it is difficult to apply BPM in a lump because of difference of BPM characteristics and company's strategies. For this reason, it is desirable to select business process based on company's priority. This study indicated need of method for selecting business process through studying current researches, and made BPA for construction company by analyzing business process in construction company. Moreover, this study indicated core business process from a point of profitability and growth view through grasping strategic goal priority. And also, it proposed criteria for process evaluation for BPM adoption, evaluated core business process, and indicated prior business process for BPM adoption.

  • Change orders represent one of the largest sources of cost growth on construction projects, but an efficient change management control system can help the projects steer clear of the constant construction changes. This study was performed to achieve a better understanding of all changes and to develop a new set of Best Practices using process mapping techniques. The project data for this research were collected from case studies of aviation projects implemented in Houston, Texas at Bush Intercontinental Airport. The findings and contributions of this research should help owners and project managers determine and identify major causes that impact project budget and schedule and implement solutions prior to them surfacing.

  • Due to the construction union's inefficient manner of carrying out their construction projects, lot's of conflicts and arguments among the union members are happening, so the proper model of reconstruction and process at each level of projects are also being recognized as an important part of the industry. So I would like to present an ideal process model of home reconstruction industry. Here below I'm presenting the benefits of this model when its applied properly. Through the study of information gained from the survey of residents, benefits such as AHP, analysis of SPSS, reduced construction time, budget cut, etc. will be produced

  • With the recent rising project complexities and competitive environments in the construction projects, a risk management is recognized as more important management tool than the others. However, as most risk management techniques applied to the construction projects are centered around their initial phases and risk analyses, they are not developed into general project management technique such as time management, cost management and quality management, etc., that are usually applied in the process of construction. Thus, this paper proposes a response process to construction project risks based on the risk threshold and its calculation methodology applying a concept of VaR to establish risk management as general management technique in the construction projects.

  • Construction companies require management system to increase efficiency and profit because of receiving competition and globalizing business environment. Since 1990s, construction companies have made various attempts to innovate business structure both internally and externally by means of BPR, 6 Sigma, PI, and Workflow. Some improvements were made, but most of them were temporary, and insufficient to provide the much-needed promptness of business process in responding to the changes. Furthermore, the recent methods of applying BPM and practical using are limited to the theory and method of other industries, and also the attempts of applying BPM in construction industry are at the stage of theoretical approaching and examining in a few construction companies. Accordingly, this study deduces the necessity of adopting BPM based on change of business paradigm for construction companies and limits of current researches, failure causes and problems of application attempts of BPM and process management. And also, we analyze Advance of BPM and suggest the application method of business process management model for construction companies.

  • GS E&C had developed construction management system, PMS which is based on EVMS in 1997. Recently, TPMS has developed for effective construction management through applying daily schedule management and JIT on materials, labors, equipments focusing field work. TPMS realizes "Shielding" and "Make-Ready Process" which are the main concept of Lean construction. Through this system, it can manage and plan daily field work, support the field work related material, labor, and equipment planning, and minimizes the non-valuable process. This paper introduces the concept of TPMS, and through established system, it can lead the construction culture and raise the competitive power of construction industry

  • As management is becoming a focus of a construction industry, conprehensive construction management is needed. Thus a plan of improving a design work process for developing design work capacity is proposed. The plan of improving a design work process based on a information flow for decision makings is expected to be a good ground material of not only smooth communication among stakeholders and information tracing, but also effective management of whole process. Theplansuggestedinthisstudyissummarizedas: (1) Detailed and clear work definition (2) information-oriented work definition (3) Strengthening works related to design management
