  • Shantou Bay Bridge is the first long-span suspension bridge in China. Because of its location near the Shantou Seaport and its exposure to high typhoon winds, wind-resistant studies are necessary to be made. In this paper, critical flutter wind speeds and buffeting responses of this bridge at its operation and main construction stages are investigated. The Buffeting Response Spectrum method is first briefly presented. Then the sectional model test is carried out to directly obtain the critical flutter wind speed and to identify the flutter derivatives, which are adopted for the later analysis of the buffeting responses using the Buffeting Response Spectrum method. Finally the aeroelastic full bridge model is tested to further investigate the dynamic effects of the bridge. The results from the tests and the computations indicate that the flutter and buffeting behaviors of the Shantou Bay Bridge are satisfied.

  • As inter-Korean relations progress, the issue of natural disasters which could directly affect the lives of the people in both Koreas, has not yet been discussed. Considering the current status of inter-Korean relations and the ongoing disaster-related damage in North Korea, it is imperative to establish a technical plan at the pan-governmental level to reduce the damage from natural disasters. The purpose of this study is to secure the Korea Peninsula against natural disasters by organizing South Korea's science and technologies related to natural disasters in order to reduce the damage, and to evaluate the applicability of said technologies. The situation of natural disasters in North Korea for 17 years has been summarized and reclassified based on eight types of natural disasters. Technologies related to natural disasters in South Korea were also investigated and reclassified. Based on the data, a priority evaluation was performed and the prioritization of technology application for each natural disaster type in North Korea was calculated through a quadrant analysis. As a result, the three major categories of high-priority technologies were classified as natural disaster monitoring with remote sensing and spatial information technology, construction of research basis and database based on geographic information system (GIS) and integrated management of complex natural disasters.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to prevent construction safety accidents, and the design safety systems were reviewed. This paper aims to establish as an effective system by looking at the implementation procedures and contents of the design safety review system. Method: We reviewed the purpose and content of the law, accident statistics, etc. for the study. In addition, we looked at the implementation plans for actual construction sites using the 'design safety' assessment process as defined by the Act. Results: We divided it into the data review phase, the risk factor elicitation and alternative setup phase, and the design safety assessment report preparation stage. Conclusion: it is necessary to derive risk factors that take into account the diversity of construction sites. However, the effectiveness of other reports is questioned as they are often copied and written. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen external verification procedures attended by construction safety experts.

  • The construction industry is the highest safety accident causing industry as 28.55% portion of all industries' accidents in Korea. In particular, falling is the highest accidents type composed of 60.16% among the construction field accidents. Therefore, we analyzed the factors of major disaster affecting the fall accident and then derived feature importances by considering various variables. We used data collected from Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency (KOSHA) for learning and predicting in the proposed model. We have an effort to predict the degree of occupational fall accidents by using the machine learning model, i.e., Adaboost, short for Adaptive Boosting. Adaboost is a machine learning meta-algorithm which can be used in conjunction with many other types of learning algorithms to improve performance. Decision trees were combined with AdaBoost in this model to predict and classify the degree of occupational fall accidents. HyOperpt was also used to optimize hyperparameters and to combine k-fold cross validation by hierarchy. We extracted and analyzed feature importances and affecting fall disaster by permutation technique. In this study, we verified the degree of fall accidents with predictive accuracy. The machine learning model was also confirmed to be applicable to the safety accident analysis in construction site. In the future, if the safety accident data is accumulated automatically in the network system using IoT(Internet of things) technology in real time in the construction site, it will be possible to analyze the factors and types of accidents according to the site conditions from the real time data.

  • Purpose: The government intends to come up with measures to revitalize safety management at construction sites to shift safety management at construction sites from human capabilities to system-oriented management systems using advanced technologies AIoT and Mobile technologies. Method: The construction site safety management monitoring system using AIoT and Mobile technology conducted an experiment on the effectiveness of the construction site by applying three algorithms: virtual fence, fire monitoring, and recognition of not wearing a safety helmet. Result: The number of workers in the experiment was 215 and 7.61 virtual fence intrusion was 3.5% compared to the number of subjects and 0.16 fire detection were 0.07% compared to the subjects, and the average monthly rate of not wearing a safety helmet was 8.79, 4.05% compared to the subjects. Conclusion: It was found that the construction site safety management monitoring system using AIoT and Mobile technology has a valid effect on the construction site.

  • Standardization of disaster safety lexicon is important as the most basic process for successful accident prevention and response. A lack of understanding of disaster safety lexicon leads lack of communication and information sharing, which can be a problem in communicating with appropriate responses in case of a disaster. Currently disaster and safety control agencies produce and manage heterogeneous information and they also develop and use word dictionaries individually. To solve this problem, identifying differences of disaster safety lexicon patterns by the user are essential for standardization. In this paper, we conducted lexicon patterns analysis based on social media and revealed the characteristics according to pattern types. At the result, we proposed the standardization and construction methods of disaster safety word dictionary.

  • The rapid increase in the number of climate disasters combined with the scale of change and the diversification of natural disasters require a radical solution. In particular, the urban space is more complex, therefore we need to establish measures for disaster response and how to react to damaged infrastructure based on the phenomenon of an increase in the urban population and the impermeable layer being extended. The social problems related to the economic burden of land purchase and the securing of a disaster prevention system can be solved simultaneously by introducing the park system for disaster reduction into the public land of the green space in the city. The local government has recently adapted diverse systems of disaster mitigation and carried out pioneer projects according to the guidelines for the construction of the urban park for disaster prevention published by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The purpose of this study is to propose a composition model for neighborhood parks to prevent disaster through urban green spaces which has the functions of water management and biotope conservation. The result of this study will contribute to utilize the climate change adaptation model for living area neighborhood parks in the existing urban structure.
