  • This paper proposes a cost-effective system design and user-friendly approach for the key technological elements necessary to configure an autonomous mobile robot. To implement a high-precision positioning system using an autonomous mobile robot, we established a Linux-based VRS (virtual reference station)-RTK (real-time kinematic) GNSS (global navigation satellite system) system with NTRIP (Network Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol) client functionality. Notably, we reduced the construction cost of the GNSS positioning system by performing dynamic location analysis of the established system, without utilizing an RTK replay system. Dynamic location analysis involves sampling each point during the trajectory following of the autonomous mobile robot and comparing the location precision with ground-truth points. The proposed system ensures high positioning performance with fast sampling times and suggests a GPS waypoint system for user convenience. The centimeter-level precision GNSS information is provided at a 30Hz sampling rate, and the dead reckoning function ensures valid information even when passing through tall buildings and dense forests. The horizontal position error measured through the proposed system is 6.7cm, demonstrating a highly precise dynamic location measurement error within 10cm. The VRS network-RTK Linux system, which provides precise dynamic location information at a high sampling rate, supports a GPS waypoint planner function for user convenience, enabling easy destination setting based on GPS information.

  • This study was carried out to the actual conditions and improvement of the eco-forests master plan in South Korea, and suggested its problems and improvement direction. Results from survey and analysis of limiting factors or constraints in the construction plans of eco-forests in Korea revealed that there were highly frequent problems involving site feasibility, topographic aspect, and existing vegetation. The results of survey on the status of land use indicated that the average ratio of the use of private estate was 29.7%, so then it was estimated that a great amount of investment in purchase of eco-forest site would be required. Results from survey on major introduced facilities showed that there was high frequency of introduction of infrastructure, building facility, recreational facility, convenience facility, and information facility, and that there was low frequency of introduction of plant culture system, ecological facility, structural symbol and sculpture, and the likes. There was just one eco-forest park where more than 500 species of plants grew, and the result of investigation indicated that the diversity of plant species in 11 eco-forest parks was lower than the standards for construction of eco-forest. Results from analysis of the projects costs revealed that investment cost in facilities was higher than planting costs, and that a large amount of investment was made in the initial stage of the project. There was no planned budget for the purpose of cultivating and maintaining the plants and vegetation after construction of eco-forest. The basic concepts in construction of eco-forests were established according to the guidelines presented by the Korea Forest Service; however, the detailed work of the project was planned with its user-oriented approach. Then the construction of eco-forest was being planned following the directions, which would lead to development of a plant garden similar to arboretum or botanical garden. Therefore, it is required that the architect who designs eco-forest as well as the public officer concerned firmly establish the concepts of eco-forest, and that, through close analysis of development conditions, a candidate site to fit the purpose of constructing eco-forest be selected, and also a substantive management plan be established upon completion of construction of eco-forest.

The field survey was tested by examining four different Hanok hotels from February 2014 to July 2014. After all, the results were analyzed based on given categories. The results of this research can be summarized as following. First, the characteristic of the master plan layout in Hanok hotel was appeared as "ㄷ" and "ㅡ" shapes. Those layouts were based on the spatial and the functional aspects of Hanok hotel facilities. Second, three different structural methods such as the korean traditional wooden structure, concrete, and masonry method were used in Hanok hotel construction to deliver the traditional architecture aspects while considering the functionality and convenience of the building. Third, most of Hanok hotels had the limited furniture range. The consideration of using several types of traditional furniture in different rates of the guest rooms help to increase the service quality and customer's satisfaction. Fourth, there were no diversity of using materials and colors in Hanok hotels that only few of them were used to express the traditional look. Fifth, the local characteristics were found in several Hanok hotels. To reflect the local characteristics in Hanok hotel is to construct a suitable environment to fit in nature and also it is easily to convey the local culture to others.

  • Installation of pedestrian scramble is recently increasing due to pedestrian-oriented transportation policies issued in local governments. Pedestrian scramble is able to emphasize safety issues by reducing conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles when an exclusive pedestrian phase is employed. In spite of its positive property, pedestrian scramble has several negative points: an increase of a cycle length, a decrease of green time ratio, and an increase of total delay. This study delivers the impacts of pedestrian scrambles in terms of pedestrian convenience and traffic mobility. Authors analyzed the changes of traffic delays by comparing the installation and no installation of pedestrian scramble at an intersection by varying several variables: signal timings, traffic volumes, the number of lanes, and the number of pedestrian conflicts. The paper presents an analysis procedure as a guideline that assists practitioners in selection of appropriate intersections at where pedestrian scrambles are implemented.
