A derelict bridge called WoljungGyo was restored in Gyeongju, the capital city of ancient Silla. WoljungGyo was originally built in 760AD, and later rebuilt in 1280AD during the Goryeo Kingdom. The bridge lasted in working condition for at least 520 years. The bridge was uncovered to the remains of both abutments and four piers, with only one or two steps remaining. One of the foundation for piers showed evidence of partial settlement. The cause of the partial settlement is important for the successful restoration of the bridge so that an extensive investigation was carried out, which includes layer stratification by boring, 2-D stiffness profiling by surface-wave tests, and large scaled-plate load test for evaluating capacity. In addition to the field studies in the Woljunggyo bridge, 3-D finite element analysis was also conducted. Based on the results of the site investigation and the numerical analysis, it was concluded that the further ground improvement to build the piers was not necessary so that the gravels were placed and leveled underneath the existing pier stones to compensate partial settlement before the restoration.
Friedel's salt is an important product of chemical adsorption between cement hydrate and chloride ions because it contains chlorine in its structure. When cement reacts with water in the presence of chloride ions, the $C_3A$ phase, and $C_4AF$ phase react with chloride to produce Friedel's salt. If chloride ions penetrate into concrete from external environments, many calcium aluminate hydrates, including AFm, can bind chloride ions. It is very important, therefore, to investigate the chloride binding isotherm of $C_3A$ phase, $C_4AF$ phase, and AFm phase to gain a better understanding of chloride binding in cementitious materials. Meanwhile, the adsorption isotherm can provide us with the fundamental information for the understanding of adsorption process. The experimental results of the isotherm can supply not only the quantitative knowledge of the cement-Friedel's salt system, but also the mechanism of adsorption and the properties of their interactions. The purpose of this study is to explore the time dependant behaviors of chloride ions adsorption with $C_3A$, $C_4AF$ and AFm phases. The chloride adsorption isotherm was depicted with Langmuir isotherm and the adsorption capacity was low in terms of the stoichiometric point of view. However, the chloride adsorption of AFm phase was depicted with Freundlich isotherm and the value was very low. Since the amount of the adsorption was governed by temperature, the affecting parameters of isotherm were expressed as a function of temperature.

Recently, the necessity of developing the load and resistance factor design(LRFD) for soft ground improvement method has been raised, since the limit state design is requested as international technical standard for the foundation of structures. In this study, to develop LRFD codes for foundation structures in Korea, target reliability index and resistance factor for static bearing capacity of driven steel pipe piles were calibrated in the framework of reliability theory. The 16 data(in Gwangyang) and the 57 data(Korea Institute of Construction Technology, 2008) sets of static load test and soil property tests conducted in the whole domestic area were collected along with available subsurface investigation results. The resistance bias factors were evaluated for the tow static design methods by comparing the representative measured bearing capacities with the expected design values. Reliability analysis was performed by two types of advanced methods : the First Order Reliability Method (FORM), and the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method using resistance bias factor statistics. As a result, when target reliability indices of the driven pipe pile were selected as 2.0, 2.33, 2.5, resistance factor of two design methods for SPT N at pile tip less than 50 were evaluated as 0.611~0.684, 0.537~0.821 respectively, and STP N at pile tip more than 50 were evaluated as 0.545~0.608, 0.643~0.749 respectively. The result from this research will be useful for developing various foundations and soil structures under LRFD.

This paper presents experimental results about shear wall with various lateral reinforcement details in boundary elements. The research objective is to study the structural behavior of shear wall with boundary column confined by rectangular spiral hoops and headed cross ties developed to improve workability in the fabrication of boundary columns. These two details can be fabricated in a factory and put together on-site after being delivered so that the construction work may be reduced. Main parameters in the experimental study were the types of hoop and cross tie: rectangular spiral hoop and headed cross tie vs. standard hoop and cross tie with hook. Four half scaled shear wall specimens with babel shape were made and tested by applying horizontal cyclic load under constant axial force, 10% of nominal compressive strength of concrete. Based on the test result, it was shown that the shear wall with rectangular spiral hoop and headed cross tie in boundary columns has structural capacity compatible with conventional shear wall. The specimen SW-Hh which has bigger hoop bar and higher volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcements than other showed improved energy dissipating characteristic but it presented a rapid reduction of strength after peak point. The results indicates that, it is necessary to consider volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcements as well as hoop space in designing of shear wall with boundary columns for improved strength and ductility.
With the rapid spreading of the internet that is based on the development of the information network system, the paradigms of "internet round" and "cyber" are given much weight in the notion of "market." Especially, the cyber shopping for the individuals is developing rapidly creating the new life style, and also in the domestic economy the cases of building and running the cyber shopping malls are increasing. The purpose of this study is to analyse the customers' shopping styles that can be shown when the customers purchase physical goods or digital goods at the B to C EC and find the way to activate the shopping malls by controlling the factors which influence the trade. The result of the study is as follows: First, to analyse the acting style of the customers at the B to C EC, it is searched whether there is any relationship between the purchasing goods, which are divided into physical goods and digital goods. There was a cross analysis between the first factor of the five factors of the purchase decision or delay at the B to C EC and the goods type. The result of the analysis is that the purchase decision factor is different according as what type of goods is purchased. On the other hand, the purchase delay factor has no relation with the goods type. Second, the fact that the cyber shopping activities are quite different according to sexuality, age, academic background, or occupation suggests that these factors are very important to the strategy for the market-specification of the B to C EC marketing construction. The result shown in this study is sure to give great help to figure out the improvement strategies and the market-specialization strategies to accelerate the B to C EC marketing. On the side of the strategies for the improvement of the goods services, more attention should be given to the functional side for the improvement of the reliability of the goods service such as capacity, technique, and quality. And the activities of the customers are so different according to the vital statistics that the way to cope with the changeability properly should be considered.
In building construction, openings of the story-height deep beams are usually required for accessibility and service lines such as air conditioning ducts, drain pipes and electric units. It is known that the main parameters affecting the load bearing capacity of deep beams with web openings are size, shape, location and reinforcements of openings. However, there have been no pertinent theories and national design codes for predicting ultimate shear strength of reinforced concrete deep beams with web openings. In this study, the shear behavior of simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams with web openings subject to concentrated loads has been scrutinized experimentally. A total of 34 specimens, the geometry of openings, its reinforcements and shear span to depth ratio, being taken as the experimental variables, has been cast and tested in the laboratory. The effects of these structural parameters on the shear strength and crack initiation and propagation have been carefully checked and analyzed. From the tests, it has been observed that the failures of all specimens were due to shear mechanism and the ultimate strength of specimens varies according to the location of openings, by which the formation of compression struts between the loading points and supports are deterred. All of the test results of specimens have been compared with the formulas proposed by previous researchers. The results were closely coincident with the formulas given by Ray and Kong's equation except for some X series specimens having a larger dimension of openings beyond the geometric limits of proposed equations.

Gravel Compaction Pile (GCP) method is currently being designed and constructed by empirical method because quantitative design method has not been developed, leading to various types of and frequent destruction such as expansion failure and shear failure and difficulties in establishing clear cause and developing measure to prevent destruction. In addition, despite the difference with domestic construction equipment and material characteristics, the methods applied to the overseas ground is applied to the domestic as it is, leading to remarkable difference between applied values and measured values in variables such as bearing capacity and the settlement amount. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to propose a reasonable and safe design method of GCP method by analyzing the settlement and stress behavior characteristics according to ground strength change under GCP method applied to domestic clay ground. For the purpose, settlement amount of composite ground, stress concentration ratio, and maximum horizontal displacement and expected location of GCP were analyzed using ABAQUS. The results of analysis showed that the settlement and Settlement reduction rate of composite ground decreased by more than 60% under replacement ratio of 30% or more, that the maximum horizontal displacement of GCP occurred at the depth 2.6 times pile diameter, and that the difference in horizontal displacement is slight under replacement ratio of 30%.

An in-situ experiment was performed to evaluate the pullout resistance capacity of chains which is used as a reinforcement of reinforced earth wall. It was also considered that chain was combined with a bar or L-type steel angle by the transverse reinforcement member in the experiment. About 80 pullout tests were peformed with varying the lengths of chain(2.0m, 2.5m, and 3.0m), the combination of each transverse members(chain only, chain+bar, or chain+angle), and the vertical placement of reinforcements. In the case that uses a chain only and a chain combined with bar, the maximum displacement was about 150mm and load continuously increased to the ultimate tensile strength of chain, and then tension failure of chains occurred. But in the case of a chain combined with angle, the displacement decreased to about 100mm and so it was expected that this combination can constrain the displacement of chain. On the other hand, comparing the yielding pullout load measured in the field to that calculated by theoretical equation, it is shown that measured values are 1.2~3.0 times greater than those of calculated values according to the length of chain, normal vertical stress, and the combination of chain with transverse members. However, the difference in the increment of yielding pullout load between bar and angle is not clear but it appears almost the same increment. It is expected that chain can be safely used as reinforcements of reinforced earth wall, although a theoretical estimation of the pullout resistance capability of chain is too conservative.

Currently NATM tunnels are designed by applying the initial ground loads caused during construction to the primary supports, conisting of shotcrete, steel ribs and rock bolts. For long term considerations, it is assumed that the primary supports lose its functionality and therefore the secondary support, i.e. concrete lining, is design to resist against the entire ground loads. But the steel ribs, usually applied to bad ground conditions, are embedded in shotcrete causing very little corrosion and therefore the assumption that the primary support will lose all of its functionality is too conservative. Also even though shotcrete carbonates in long term, excluding it from design is also too conservative. In this study, we have, through analytical and numerical analysis, set a rational level of support pressure and allowable relaxed rock mass height sustainable by the primary support for long term design. Changes in sectional forces of the concrete lining considering the calculated support pressure of the primary supports was also carried out. Shallow subway tunnels were considered in the analysis with weathered rock and soft rock ground conditions. The analysis results showed that, by considering the support pressure of steel ribs, an economical design of the concrete lining is possible.

The CFT (Concrete Filled steel Tubes) column-footing connection is cast-in-place embedded type which provides simple construction procedure, low cost, and superior structural performance. In this study, CFT column-footing connection of modular pier is proposed and structural performance is evaluated by experimental tests. To evaluate structural performance of the CFT column-footing connection, a series of experimental tests were performed for the 4 specimens with different embedded depth. As a result of the quasi-static test, the specimen with 0.6D (0.6 times the outside diameter of steel tube) embedded depth showed relatively low ductility than other specimens with larger embedded depth due to cone failure of base concrete occurred during the lower loading step. On the contrary, cone failure of the base concrete was not observed in the specimens with larger embedded depth than 0.9D, but typical flexural failure in lower part of CFT column was observed. With the analyses of force-displacement curve, displacement ductility, and energy dissipation capacity, it is concluded that the rational range of embedded depth of the CFT column-footing connection is from 0.9D to 1.2D in view of good seismic performance.
