Jang Nam's opinion is that Yin-Yang of pathogenic factors change following to the Yin and Yang of human body. As the pathogenic factors injure the human body, the conditions of diseases become different to the inborn constitution of human. Therefore the main principles of remedy set up the diagnosis on the YINㆍYANG & the strengthㆍweakness of constitution. This diagnotic points are body formal distinction, flesh hardness and softness, face color and form, skin color. Moreover he arranges the 4 type of the hole-body constitution based on the Seop-Gye's the guide of clinical differentiation of syndromes(臨證指南); Yang-Strength and Yin-weakness(陽盛陰虛), Yin ㆍYang-strength(陰陽具盛), Yin-Strength and Yang-weakness(陰盛陽虛), YinㆍYang-weakness(陰陽兩虛).

In classfying human being into four types: Soeum-in(少陰人), Taeeum-in(太陰人), Soyang-in(少陽人), Taeyang-in(太陽人), let, s try to match four season's image to the four type constitution. 1. spring's image(春) soeum-in(少陰人) summer's image(夏) taeeum-in(太陰人) autumn's image(秋) soyang-in(少陽人) winter's image(冬) taeyang-in(太陽人). 2. Human being can be divided into five elements in the Oriental Medicine. The remedy by using five elements constitution has been shown great effects clinically during that time. Therefore, The job design research considering Oriental Human Constitution is needed for job efficiency and safety. In This study, we examine whether the theory can be applied for job design through the experiment by 'Digital-type Speed Anticipation Reaction Tester' and suggest the desirable direction of job design.

Objectives : This study was done to investigate the relationship between Sasang constitution and the facial skin in acute stroke patients Methods : In the time of period Mar. 2007 to Jun. 2007, 103 patients with stroke admitted in the department of Internal Medicine of Kyungwon University Seoul Oriental Medical Hospital, Kyungwon University Incheon Oriental Medical Hospital, Kyunghee University Oriental Medical Hospital, Dongguk Il-san Oriental Medical Hospital were included. We assessed the type of Sasang constitution, and the type of Sasang constitution of 51 patients were confirmed. We investigated general characteristics, stroke type and the relationship between Sasang constitution and the facial skin. Results : The color of face have no significant differences by Sasang constitution. But So-yang have blue and purple colored lips than So-eum and Tae-eum have. Conclusions : In this study, we found the relationship between Sasang constitution and the facial skin in acute stroke patients. But it seems necessary to investigate more cases to concrete conclusion on this theme.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to survey the usage frequency of Sasang constitutional herbal formula in the clinlcal field. Methods : We searched the case report forms from 2031 subjects in the 11 oriental hospitals and 10 oriental clinic. Subjects were diagnosed by the Sasang Constitution specialist in oriental hospital, who had remarkable improvement in their chief complain after Sasang Constitution medication. We counted the usage frequency of each constitutional herbal formula. Results and Conclusions : In TE type, Cheongsimnyeonja-tang, Yeoldahanso-tang, Jowiseungcheong-tang, Taeeumjowi-tang were used in high frequency. In SE type, various herbal formula were used in a similar frequency. In SY type, Yanggyeoksanhwa-tang, Hyeongbangjihwang-tang, Dokhwaljihwang-tang were used in high frequency. Additionally, the use of specific herbal formula was concentrated in SY type.

We proceeded the judgement of Sasang constitution of 79 children(the age 101 between 15) who have visited Dongguk Bundang Oriental Medical Hospital during 3 months from August 2002 to October 2002 by Questionnaire of Sasang Constitution Classification and conducted questionnaire survey about the type of disease and symptom occurred frequently. The conclusion is following. 1. The distribution of Sasang constitution: Soeum group(少陰人) 32, Taeeuml group(太陰人) 29, Soyang group(少陽人) 18. 2. The distribution of systemic disease occurred frequently : in digestive system, Soeum (46.9%) & Soyang(44.4%) group more than Taeeum group(34.5%) and in genitourinary system and others, Soeum(28.1%) more than Taeeum group(17.2%). 3. The distribution of symptom occurred frequently : in rhinitis and sinusitis, Taeeum(60.0%) & Soeum(60.0%) more than Soyang(45.5%), in abdominal pain, Soeum(58.8%) & Soyang(62.5%) more than Taeeum(36.4%), and in diarrhea, Taeeum(45.5%) more than Soeum(123.5%) & Soyang group(25.0%). Headache & vexation(心煩) are almost found in Soeum group with abdominal pain and excessive sweating is only found in Taeeum group. 4. The efficacy of herbal medication combined with Cervix Cornu Pranum (鹿茸加味劑) : after the medication, change of condition have showed in Taeeum group at the most high rate(31.0%) and showed in Soeum(15.6%) and Soyang(11.1%) group. 5. The distribution of allergic disease: allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis took up the majority of all allergic diseases. In morbidity of allergic rhinitis, Taeeum(62.1%) & Soyang(55.6%) more than Soeum(37.5%). In morbidity of other allergic diseases and degree of severity, it has no difference among three Sasang constitution groups.

Objectives The purpose of this review was to investigate constitutional medical research on tumors and to propose information for further research. Methods The literature was investigated from Oriental medicine advanced searching integrated system, China national knowledge infrastructure, and PubMed. The searching terms were cancer, tumor, neoplasm, Sasang constitution, and so on. And studies were collected and analyzed into the three parts of distributions, treatments, and preventions. Results The distribution and type of tumors were different depending on the type of Sasang constitution. The symptoms of a tumor can occur variously in all types of diseases or patterns. Preventing tumors and cultivating health should be considered all aspects of physical, mental, and social health in the Sasang constitutional concept of securing requisite energy of minor organs. Conclusions The Sasang constitutional medicine for treating tumors should be focused on strengthening the constitutional healthy energy considering personal characteristics.

The objectives of study are to investigate the relationship between Sasang Constitution(四象醫學) and measuring items of the head and face and to develop useful diagnosis standard of Sasang Constitution. Subjects took QSCCII(Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification II) tests repeatedly at an interval of one year and were diagnosed as same constitutions. The 9 Items were measured by Martin-type anthropometric method in 112 subjects. Compared with measurements of 3 constitutions, the mean values in Taeeum-in(太陰人) showed highest and there were significant differences in 7 items between Taeeum-in(太陰人) and other constitutions. Especially, Measurements of Bitragus to Submandibular Arc Length(BSAL) item and Bitragus to Menton Arc Length(BMAL) item showed significant differences between Taeeum-in(太陰人) male and other constitutions male. It seems that BSAL and BMA items can differentiate Taeeum-in(太陰人) from other constitutions and these items have possibility to be a diagnosis standard of Sasang Constitution.

Objectives : This study was carried out to evaluate the difference of body mass index(BMI) distribution and the difference of effect of weight reduction program among Sasang constitution. Methods : Sasang constitution was differentiated by QSCC II of 875 cases. Body composition was analysed by bioelectrical impedance analysis(Inbody 3.0, Biospace, Seoul, Korea) in before and after treatment to evaluate the effect among Sasang constitution. The weight reduction program including very low calorie diet, electrical acupuncture and herbal medicine was treated to all cases equally during 1 month. Results and Conclusions : The group of Taeum was more obese and less reducted in body fat mass and % body fat in tools of percent rates of the changes than other type of Sasang constitution. In conclusion, the group of Taeum is more easy to become obese and more difficult to treat obesity

Objectives This study aims to know the coefficient of five Sasang constitution diagnosis factors' concordance in and among Oriental Medical Clinics, which are important to diagnose Sasang constitution, 2. Methods We collected 701 subjects in Oriental Medical Clinics, who were diagnosed by experts, and they marked the priority order of Sasang constitutional factors in paper. 3. Results 1) The concordance of priority order about Sasang constitutional factors was significantly associated within Oriental Medical Clinics. 2) The concordance of priority order of Sasang constitutional factors was not significantly associated among 12 Oriental Medical Clinics, so we find out that each medical clinics has a different point of view of deciding the rank of diagnosis factors. 3) We show that the factor of Sasang constitutional drug response was the most important one to confirm Sasang constitution and factors have a different order according to clinic type and qualification of experts 4. Conclusions Sasang constitution expect has their own view in diagnosis priority order and that was different among them.
