A Deterministic Method for Structural Analysis of Compound Words in Japanese

  • Structural analysis of compound words is necessary and an important process in natural language processing. Proposed here is a corpus- and statistics- based method for the structural analysis of compound words in Japanese. We determine the structure of a compound word by using Internet corpus and calculating the strength of word association among its constituent words. Experiments with 5, 6, 7, and 8 kanji compound words show that our method works well and its performance is better than those of other comparable studies.

  • This study aims to discussion the characteristics of location and spatial organization of the Byeong San confucian academy. To do this, we studied in two ways; analysis of the present conditions and photographing, research materials about the form of physical structure and review of historical documents. The result of analysis in the sight of the location and spatial structure was good matched. The spatial organization of the Byeong San confucian academy was divided into lecturing space and sacrificial space. In the Mandaeru on Byeong San confucian academy was imported borrowed scenery of surrounding landscape and while placed arranging various constituent elements of the small-scale pond and visual perception in trying to formalize the landscape. The result of this study, analysis of axis and terrace shows backgrounds of these locations shows that the political and social, economical phenomena were influenced to the locations and spatial organization of the Byeong San Confucian Academy.

  • The elastomeric O-ring is the most-commonly-used seal due to its excellent sealing capacity, and its availability in various costs and sizes; furthermore, its importance has lasted over a long duration. However, a dearth of research exists in Korea regarding the elastomeric O-ring and the corresponding techniques. The constituent parts of elastomeric rubber are important; to determine their properties, the uni-axial tension and equi-biaxial tension need to be tested. Also, the non-linear analysis method reduces the design cost. An O-ring failure causes leaks and vibration. In this paper, foreign objects are used to affect an O-ring and its performance so that all angles of the O-ring design can be considered. This paper presents a solution for the O-ring-failure problem using a finite-element analysis.

  • A new method for the analysis of coumarin constituents in the roots of Peucedanum japonicum by high performance liquid chromatography was established. Among two coumarin constituents identified, peucedanol was confirmed to be applicable to a standard compound. A reversed phase system with a ${\mu}Bondapak$ C_{18}$, column using $H_2O-MeOH=5\;:\;4$ as a moble phase was developed. Peucedanol and a minor constituent, umbelliferone were detected at 333nm and the analysis was successfully carried out within 20 min.

  • A new cyclic peptide (six-membered amino acid), gamakamide-E (L-Leu-L-Met (SO)-L-Me-Phe-L-Leu-D-Lys-L-Phe), was isolated as a strongly bitter tasting compound from cultured oysters, Crassostrea gigas. The molecular formula of $C_{43}H_{61}N_7O_8S$ was deduced from high resolution fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry (HR FAB-MS) ($[M+H]^+$ m/z 836.4356 ${\Delta}$= -2.4 mmu). Its unique structure including a hydantoin structure was firstly elucidated by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis. Stereochemistries of constituent amino acids were determined by chiral high performanced liquid chromatography analysis of natural and synthesized peptides.

Second law thermodynamic analysis of nanofluid turbulent flow in heat exchanger

  • Entropy generation along with exergetic analysis is carried out using turbulent nanofluid flow in the heat exchanger. To obtain the optimized percentage constituent of nanofluid, the nanofluid volume concentrations is varied for the given input conditions. For different Reynolds number of the fluid and heat capacity rate ratio between the streams, the heat transfer improvements are studied in terms of nano particles diameter. Parametric analysis is carried out for a counterflow heat exchanger using turbulent nanofluid flow with exergetic efficiency along with entropy generation number as performance parameters. The exergetic efficiency provides realistic approach in the design of nanofluid applications in heat exchanger leading to conservation of energy.

  • In this study, microstructure and distribution of alloy elements were investigated in thermo-mechanically processed C-Mn-Si transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steels. The microstructures of TRIP steels were investigated by using advanced analysis techniques, such as three dimensional atom probe tomography (3D-APT). At first, the microstructure was observed by using TEM. TEM results revealed that microstructure of C-Mn-Si TRIP steel was composed of ferrite, bainte, and retained austenite. 3D-APT was used to characterize atomic-scale partitioning of added elements at the phase interface. In the retained austenite phase, Ti and B were enriched with C. However, there was no fluctuation of Mn and Si concentration across the interface. Through these analysis techniques, the advanced characteristics of constituent microstructure in C-Mn-Si TRIP steels were identified.

Thermo mechanical analysis of a ceramic coated piston used in a diesel engine

  • The aim of this paper is to determine temperature and stress distributions in a ceramic based on Partially Stabilized Zirconia coated steel piston crown by using plasma spraying for improving performance of a marine diesel engine. Effects of coating constituent and thickness on temperature and stress distributions were investigated including comparisons with results from an uncoated piston by means of finite element method namely ANSYS. Temperature developed at the coated surface is significantly higher than that of the uncoated piston. The maximum stress components occur between bond coat and adjacent ceramic layer. Provided that coating thickness is constant as 0.5 mm, when numbers of layers increase, magnitude of the normal stress decrease about 34.1% on the base metal surface according to uncoated piston, but the base metal surface temperature of the steel piston increase about 13.1%.

  • Thermally induced vibration response of solar array is investigated. The solar array model consists of composite thin walled beam and solar blanket, spreader bar. The composite thin walled beam incorporates a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear, primary and secondary warping, rotary inertia and anisotropy of constituent materials. The solar blanket is a membrane subjected to uniform tension in the z direction. The spreader bar is a rigid member. A coupled thermal structure analysis that includes the effects of structural deformations on heating and temperature gradient is investigated. A stability criterion given in parameters for establishes the conditions for thermal flutter.

  • In unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), the high temperature results from friction among the air, combustion of fuel in engine and combustion gas of a nozzle. The high temperature may cause serious damages in UAV structure. The Functionally Graded Material (FGM) is chosen as a material of thc engine duct structure. Thermal stress analysis of FGM is performed in this paper. FGM is composed of two constituent materials that are mixed up according to the specific volume fraction distribution in order to withstand high temperature. Therefore, hoop stress, axial stress and shear stress of duct with 2 layers, 4 layers and 8 layers FGM are compared and analyzed respectively. In addition, the creep behavior of FGM used in duct structure of an engine is analyzed for better understanding of FGM characteristics.
