  • Objective : This study was carried out to investigate the effects of oral administration of Hyeungbangjihwang-tang (HBJHT) on the liver cirrhosis of rats induced by Carbon tetrachloride for 10 weeks. Method : The histopathological changes were observed. The HBJHT extracts were daily dosed at 50, 100 and 200mg/kg for 12 weeks. Results : Severe hepatocellular necrosis and ballooning, hyperplasia of connective tissue, subdued reduction of hepatic lobule, and hyperplasia of bile duct in portal triad were dramatically decreased in the HBJHT-treated group compared to that of the Carbon tetrachloride-treated control group in histopathological observation. The diameter of hepatic lobules was significantly enlarged in the HBJHT-treated group compared to that of the Carbon tetrachloride-treated control group, and the amounts of connective tissue, degenerative cells and bile ducts were significantly and dose-dependently decreased. Conclusion : It is concluded that HBJHT has a significant recovering effect on the liver of rats induced by carbon tetrachloride.

  • This study was performed to observe the effects of arthrography on the tissues of temporomandibular joint histopathologically. Among 17 rabbits (34 joints), 2 (4 joints) were used as normal control group, others (30 joints) were experimentally arthrographed using 0.03㎖ diatrizoate meglumine (Hypaque meglumine 60, Wintrop, U.S.A). The rabbits were sacrificed at 2-hour, 1-, 2-, 4- and 7-day after experiment and the tissues of temporomandibular joint were prepared according to the usual method for light microscopic examination. The results were as follows: 1. There were no changes of the fibrous connective tissues of the condylar fossa, the fibrous connective tissues and hyaline cartilages of the condyle, and the articular dislc 2. In 2-hour experimental group, the proliferation of the surface synovial membrane cells, the congestion and hemorrage of the vessels were observed. 3. In 1 and 2-day experimental group, minimal lymphocytes infiltration was observed with the proliferation of the surface synovial membrane cells, the congestion and hemorrage of the vessels. 4. In 4-day experimental group, the diminution of the proliferation of the surface synovial membrane cells was seen, but there was no vascular changes. 5. In 7-day experimental group, the tissues showed similar appearance to the normal control group.

  • To investigate morphological changes in the exocrine pancreas of chicken after pancreatic duct ligation, experimental animals were subdivided to control, 12 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 4 days, 7 days and 10 days groupes and all of three pancreatic ducts of chicken were ligated by surgical procedure and then the morphological changes were observed. In pancreatic ducts, once for a while the ducts were dilated on 12 hours after pancreatic duct ligation and then they were obstructed because of proliferated epithelial cells and connective tissues in pancreatic duct. Marginal dissociation of acini was detected in 12 hours after pancreatic duct ligation and then dissociation of acini was increased with time and finally in 4 days after pancreatic duct ligation the acini showed completely dissociation except periductular regions and around pancreatic islets. Most of dissociated acini cells showed marginal condensation of nuclear chromatin and atropy of cytoplasm, namely, apoptotic features were detected in dissociated acinar cells. Interacinar spaces of dissociated acinar regions were dilated and fulfilled with increased connective tissue and in 4 days after pancreatic duct ligation, deposition of lymphocytes and hemocytes was occurred.

  • Background: This study aimed to assess the potential efficacy of purified porcine atelocollagen (PAC) for the management of refractory chronic pain due to suspected connective tissue damage. Methods: Patients treated with PAC were retrospectively evaluated. Patients with chronic refractory pain, suspected to have originated from musculoskeletal damage or defects with the evidence of imaging studies were included. Pain intensity, using the 11-point numerical rating scale (NRS), was assessed before the procedure, and 1 month after the last procedure. Results: Eighty-eight patients were finally included for investigation. The mean NRS score was decreased from 5.8 to 4.1 after 1 month of PAC injection (P < 0.001). No independent factor was reported to be directly related to the decrease in NRS score by more than half. Conclusions: Application of PAC may have potential as a treatment option for refractory chronic musculoskeletal pain. PAC might promote tissue recovery, act as a scaffold for repair, or directly reduce inflammation.

  • This paper aims at studying about spatial structures and formative characteristics of Lucy Orta's fashion design. Her works utilizes the thought related on the architectural space that has been revealed sharp change of the paradigm since the late of 20th century. Lucy Orta against individualism of the urban life, and manufactures portable and moving housing and multi-functional fashion that is paved with individual rest unit and give a sense of security through simple combination among the units. Besides, she has development multiple portable clothing and equipments for the rescuethrough exploiting pioneering high technology. The results of this study can be summarized as the following: 1) refuge habitant creates individual space for physical and mental protection from the urban surrounding, 2) nomadic dwelling shows multi-functional fashion space fit for digital nomads' life style aims at continuous movement, 3) connective nexus and urban life guard are comprise of detachable individual unit in public space for remaking of the bonds, affinity, and relationship, and the complex of rescue clothing and equipments for meeting a challenge of the threat about human existence from uncertain environmental change in the future.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was 1) to find nerve damage after inferior alveolar nerve transposition and 2) to examine whether the soft tissue or bone changes around the nerve produce the compression to the nerve in the healing period. Materials and Method : Inferior alveolar nerve was exposed through the bony window and the scratch was made in the bone to be thought as the inferior alveolar canal. Suture was made after the nerve was repositioned. The nerve and surrounding tissues were examined with the light microscope and the fluorescent microscope before surgery and at 1 month, 3 months, and 5 months after surgery. Results : After surgery, the epineurium was damaged and the nerve was divided to several fascicles covered with the perineurium The newly formed fibrous connective tissue and vessels were seen around fascicles. There was new bone formation. However the nerve was not compressed by the connective tissue or the new bone. Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that neurosensory disturbances after inferior alveolar nerve transposition are resulted by the direct trauma in surgery rather than the compression to the nerve by the scar or new bone formation in the healing period.

  • A depressed alvelolar ridge and a collapsed interdental papilla in the anterior region may interfere with esthetic prosthodontic repair. The resultant sequelas will cause overcontoured prosthesis or dark shadow under pontic which may not suffice our patients' esthetic demands. So, surgical periodontal treatment has been needed for esthetic repair in deformed ridges and extensive interproximal spacing. Our treatment option alters Dr.Abram's roll technique to make palatally extended connective tissue secondary pedicle flap to obtain additonal connective tissue. Blood supply maintenance, least trauma, and no secondary wound is advantages in this modification.
