  • This paper presents the development of CAD system for the design of lens of the Turn Signal Lamp that can model and simulate its optical performance. The system consists of three main modules: skin surface modeling module, inner lens modeling module and optical performance simulation module. Skin surface geometry can be modeled by the input of data file and inner lens can be modeled by the input of only four parameter using its geometric characteristics. Also light distribution pattern, the barometer of optical performance is generated by means of finite ray tracing method. The system display modeled geometry, ray tracing and generated light distribution pattern.

  • According to the paraxial diffraction theory, diffractions of optical systems which have the same wavelength and numerical aperture are always the same, independent of lateral magnification. But the diffractions for optical systems with different magnifications are varied due to the non-paraxial diffraction effect on the imaging of high NA optics. In this study, the non-paraxial diffraction effect is interpreted as a phenomena caused by curved principal planes. Pupil functions and modulation transfer functions of aplanatic conic mirrors are examined as a function of lateral magnification.

  • To design three-mirror telescope system (F/8, 120 inch in focal length) for visible and infra-red band imaging, methods for power configuring and correction of the third order aberrations were studied. In the design of the telescope system, a three-mirror system corrected for spherical aberration, coma, and astigmatism was used for infra-red imaging, and the aberrations were corrected by using conic surfaces. For visible imaging, a singlet corrector lens was appended at the front of the focal plane to correct filed curvature. The telescope system has diffraction limited performance for 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in wavelength within 2.4$^{\circ}$ of field-of-view. In the visible band imaging, the rms spot size of the telescope system is less than 25 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ within 3$^{\circ}$ of field-of-view for monochromatic light, and the telescope system satisfies flat field condition for CCD application.

  • This paper presents how to approximate an optimal shape of roll bending process in the fabrication of a curved shell plate. The roll bending process usually makes the cylindrical or conic shape from an initial flat plate. It means that the final shape is developable or its surface representation has zero Gaussian curvature. The fabrication shape is important in order to find process parameters of roil bending. An optimal concept is used to determine the developable fabrication shape which is in the closest proximity to the design surface or the given shell plate and is subject to developability. The results and the efficiency of this algorithm are evaluated by applying to some shell plates. Furthermore, the fabrication shape will be fundamental information for other process parameters of roll bending such as the vertical displacement of the center roller and the rolling directions.
