The Congestion Estimation based TCP Congestion Control Scheme using the Weighted Average Value of the RTT (RTT의 가중평균값을 이용한 혼잡 예측 기반 TCP 혼잡 제어 기법)

  • TCP, which performs congestion control in congestion condition, is able to help a reliable transmission. However, packet loss can be increased because congestion window is increased by the time the packet is dropped in the process of congestion avoidance. In this paper, to solve the above problem, we propose a new congestion estimation based TCP congestion control scheme using the weighted average value of the RTT. After measuring a SRTT, which means the weighted average value of RTTs, at this point of time when a buffer overflow is occurred by an overloaded packet, the proposed scheme estimates the time, when the same SRTT is made in packet transmission, as a congestion time and then decreases the congestion window. The simulation results show that the proposed schem has a good performance in terms of packet loss rate and throughput when the packet loss due to buffer overflow is larger than that due to wireless channel.

  • This paper reports a new mechanism for congestion controls. The proposed congestion detection algorithm can be provided with delay and unnecessary energy consumption. Conventional congestion control methods decide congestion by queue occupancy or mean packet arrival rate of MAC layer only, however, our method can perform precise detection by considering queue occupancy and mean packet arrival rate. In addition, the congestion avoiding method according to congestion degree and scheduling method using priority for real time packets are proposed. Finally, simulation results show that proposed congestion detection and control methods outperforms conventional scheduling schemes for wireless sensor network.

  • Common Channel Signaling(CCS) networks need special controls to avoid overload of signaling networks and degradation of call process-ing rate, since they play an important role of controlling communication transfer networks. Congestion control and flow control mechanisms are well described in ITU-T recommendation on Signaling System No.7(SS7). For the practical provisions, however, we need an analysis on the relation among service objects, system requirements and implementation of congestion control algorithms. SS7 provides several options for controlling link congestion in CCS networks. In this paper we give a general queueing model of congestion control algorithm which covers both the international and national options. From the queuing model, we obtain the performance parameters such as throughput, message loss rate and mean delay for the international option. To show the performance of the algorithm, some numerical results are also given.

  • Current end-to-end congestion control depends only on the information of end points (using three duplicate ACK packets) and generally responds slowly to the network congestion. This mechanism can't avoid TCP global synchronization which TCP congestion window size is fluctuated during congestion occurred and if RTT (Round Trip Time) is increased, three duplicate ACK packets is not a correct congestion signal because congestion maybe already disappeared and the host may send more packets until receive the three duplicate ACK packets. Recently there is increasing interest in solving end-to-end congestion control using active network frameworks to improve the performance of TCP protocols. ACC (Active congestion control) is a variation of TCP-based congestion control with queue management In addition traffic modifications nay begin at the congested router (active router) so that ACC will respond more quickly to congestion than TCP variants. The advantage of this method is that the host uses the information provided by the active routers as well as the end points in order to relieve congestion and improve throughput. In this paper, we model enhanced ACC, provide its algorithm which control the congestion by using information in core networks and communications between active routers, and finally demonstrate enhanced performance by simulation.

  • We propose a feedback-based congestion control algorithm for the wireless TCP network. In this paper, we present a new TCP protocol to control the congestion window size. In particular, the asymptotic analysis of the wireless TCP is presented. Through simulations, our algorithm shows an improvement of TCP’s performance in wireless networks.

TCP/IP is the intermediate transport layer candidate for today's applications. TCP uses an adaptive window-based flow control.   • The Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) is a specialized web transfer protocol proposed by the IETF for use in IoT environments. CoAP was designed as a lightweight machine-to-machine protocol for resource constrained environments. Due to the strength of low overhead, the number of CoAP devices is expected to rise rapidly. When CoAP runs over UDP for wireless sensor networks, CoAP needs to support congestion control mechanisms. Since the default CoAP defines a minimal mechanism for congestion control, several schemes to improve the mechanism have been proposed. To keep CoAP lightweight, the majority of the schemes have been focused mainly on how to measure RTT accurately and how to set RTO adaptively according to network conditions, but other approaches such as rate-based congestion control were proposed more recently. In this paper, we survey the literature on congestion control for CoAP and discuss the future research directions.

  • This paper focuses on an advanced congestion control scheme for M2M(Machine-to-Machine) communications in 3GPP LTE-A standard. A large number of MTC(Machine-type-Communication) devices try to access to LTE-A networks and send data to the networks all at once. In this characteristics, M2M communications will bring the serious network congestion problems into LTE-A cellular networks. To solve this critical problem, a congestion control mechanism will be required and it has been studied since Rel-10 LTE-A systems based on backoff mechanism for mobility management and session management. In this paper, we briefly introduce the main concept and operation about the congestion control scheme in 3GPP LTE-A standard. Also, simulation results for the basic congestion control and advanced congestion control scheme in MTC communication environment are provided and the improvement direction is considered in future 3GPP LTE-A standard.

  • The congestion in wireless sensor network increases the ratio of data loss and causes the delay of data. The existing congestion protocols for wireless sensor network reduces the amount of transmission by control the sampling frequency of the sensor nodes related to the congestion when the congestion has occurred and was detected. However, the control method of sampling frequency is not applicable on the situation which is sensitive to the temporal data loss. In the paper, we propose a new congestion control, ACT - Adaptive Congestion conTrol. The ACT monitors the network traffic with the queue usage and detects the congestion based on the multi level threshold of queue usage. Given network congestion, the ACT increases the efficiency of network by adaptive flow control method which adjusts the frequency of packet transmission and guarantees the fairness of packet transmission between nodes. Furthermore, ACT increases the quality of data by using the variable compression method. Through experiment, we show that ACT increases the network efficiency and guarantees the fairness to sensor nodes compared with existing method.

  • In Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs), a sensor node broadcasts the acquisited sensing data to neighboring other nodes and it makes serious data duplication problem that increases network traffic loads and data loss. This problem is concerned with the conflict condition for supporting both the reliability of data transfer and avoidance of network congestion. To solve the problem, a reliable congestion control protocol is necessary that considers critical factors affecting on data transfer reliability such as reliable data transmission, wireless loss, and congestion loss for supporting effective congestion control in WSNs. In his paper, we proposes a reliable congestion protocol, called HRCCP, based on hop-hop sequence number, and DSbACK by minimizing useless data transfers as an energy-saved congestion control method.
