Genetic classification and confirmation of inherited platelet disorders: current status in Korea

  • Inherited platelet disorders (IPDs), which manifest as primary hemostasis defects, often underlie abnormal bleeding and a family history of thrombocytopenia, bone marrow failure, hematologic malignancies, undefined mucocutaneous bleeding disorder, or congenital bony defects. Wide heterogeneity in IPD types with regard to the presence or absence of thrombocytopenia, platelet dysfunction, bone marrow failure, and dysmegakaryopoiesis is observed in patients. The individual processes involved in platelet production and hemostasis are genetically controlled; to date, mutations of more than 50 genes involved in various platelet biogenesis steps have been implicated in IPDs. Representative IPDs resulting from defects in specific pathways, such as thrombopoietin/MPL signaling; transcriptional regulation; granule formation, trafficking, and secretion; proplatelet formation; cytoskeleton regulation; and transmembrane glycoprotein signaling are reviewed, and the underlying gene mutations are discussed based on the National Center for Biotechnology Information database and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man accession number. Further, the status and prevalence of genetically confirmed IPDs in Korea are explored based on searches of the PubMed and KoreaMed databases. IPDs are congenital bleeding disorders that can be dangerous due to unexpected bleeding and require genetic counseling for family members and descendants. Therefore, the pediatrician should be suspicious and aware of IPDs and perform the appropriate tests if the patient has unexpected bleeding. However, all IPDs are extremely rare; thus, the domestic incidences of IPDs are unclear and their diagnosis is difficult. Diagnostic confirmation or differential diagnoses of IPDs are challenging, time-consuming, and expensive, and patients are frequently misdiagnosed. Comprehensive molecular characterization and classification of these disorders should enable accurate and precise diagnosis and facilitate improved patient management.

Mobile Computed Tomography : Three Year Clinical Experience in Korea

  • Objective : Obtaining real-time image is essential for neurosurgeons to minimize invasion of normal brain tissue and to prompt diagnosis of intracranial event. The aim of this study was to report our three-year experience with a mobile computed tomography (mCT) for intraoperative and bedside scanning. Methods : A total of 357 mCT (297 patients) scans from January 2009 to December 2011 in single institution were reviewed. After excluding postoperative routine follow-up, 202 mCT were included for analysis. Their medical records such as diagnosis, clinical application, impact on decision making, times, image quality and radiologic findings were assessed. Results : Two-hundred-two mCT scans were performed in the operation room (n=192, 95%) or intensive care unit (ICU) (n=10, 5%). Regarding intraoperative images, extent of resection of tumor (n=55, 27.2%), degree of hematoma removal (n=42, 20.8%), confirmation of catheter placement (n=91, 45.0%) and monitoring unexpected complications (n=4, 2.0%) were evaluated. A total of 14 additional procedures were introduced after confirmation of residual tumor (n=7, 50%), hematoma (n=2, 14.3%), malpositioned catheter (n=3, 21.4%) and newly developed intracranial events (n=2, 14.3%). Every image was obtained within 15 minutes and image quality was sufficient for interpretation. Conclusion : mCT is feasible for prompt intraoperative and ICU monitoring with enhanced diagnostic certainty, safety and efficiency.

대중교통테러의 대응방안 (A Study on the Countermeasure of Traffic Terror)

  • 대중교통수단에 대한 테러는 운송수단을 대상으로 한 테러유형 중의 하나이지만, 항공기나 선박과는 달리 인질협상을 하는 사례는 거의 발견할 수 없고 무차별 공격을 가하기 때문에 인명피해가 매우 크다. 그러므로 더욱 철저한 대비가 필요함에도 불구하고 항공기에 비해 방어기제는 거의 마련되어 있지 않은 실정이며, 시민의 입장에서도 열차나 버스 등을 이용할 때 테러에 대한 대응태세는 전무한 상태여서 문제가 매우 심각하다. 그렇기 때문에 이러한 대중육상교통수단에 대한 테러를 예방하기 위해서는 KTX 등 열차탑승자의 신원확인과 수화물 검색을 실시해야 한다. 또한 열차보안요원의 대테러 능력 강화, 시민의 대테러 훈련 정례화, 시설물의 철저한 점검, 사회적 안전망 확충등이 시급히 이루어져야 한다. 모든 테러는 우리가 자주 이용하는 시설이나 수단을 대상으로 삼기에 평상시에 철저히 점검하고 대비하는 자세가 테러를 방지하는 가장 확실하고 안전한 대응방안이 될 것이다.

Development of character recognition system for the mixed font style in the steel processing material

  • In the steel production line, the molten metal of a furnace is transformed into billet and then moves to the heating furnace of the hot rolling mill. This paper describes about the development of recognition system for the characters, which was marked at the billet material by use template-marking plate and hand written method, in the steel plant. For the recognition of template-marked characters, we propose PSVM algorithm. And for the recognition of hand written character, we propose combination methods of CCD algorithm and PSVM algorithm. The PSVM algorithm need some more time than the conventional KLT or SVM algorithm. The CCD algorithm makes shorter classification time than the PSVM algorithm and good for the classification of closed curve characters from Arabic numerals. For the confirmation of algorithm, we have compared our algorithm with conventional methods such as KLT classifier and one-to-one SVM. The recognition rate of experimented billet characters shows that the proposing PSVM algorithm is 97 % for the template-marked characters and combinational algorithm of CCD & PSVM is 95.5 % for the hand written characters. The experimental results show that our proposing method has higher recognition rate than that of the conventional methods for the template-marked characters and hand written characters. By using our algorithm, we have installed real time character recognition system at the billet processing line of the steel-iron plant.

시선 추적을 활용한 패션 디자인 인지에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fashion Design Cognition Using Eye Tracking)

  • This study investigated the cognitive process of fashion design images through eye activity tracking. Differences in the cognitive process and gaze activity according to image elements were confirmed. The results of the study are as follows. First, a difference was found between groups in the gaze time for each section according to the model and design. Although model diversity is an important factor leading the interest of observers, the simplicity of the model was deemed more effective for observing the design. Second, the examination of the differences by segments regarding the gaze weight of the image area showed differences for each group. When a similar type of model is repeated, the proportion of face recognition decreases, and the proportion of design recognition time increases. Conversely, when the model diversity is high, the same amount of time is devoted to recognizing the model's face in all the processes. Additionally, there was a difference in the gaze activity in recognizing the same design according to the type of model. These results enabled the confirmation of the importance of the model as an image recognition factor in fashion design. In the fashion industry, it is important to find a cognitive factor that attracts and retains consumers' attention. If the design recognition effect is further maximized by finding service points to be utilized, the brand's sustainability is expected to be enhanced even in the rapidly changing fashion industry.

  • We propose and implement a flexible secure peer-to-peer(P2P) file sharing scheme which can be used for data sharing among closed user group (CUG) members. When a member wants to share data, notification messages are sent to the members with whom the member wants to share data. Each notification message includes one-time password encrypted with the receiver's public key. A member who received the notification message can download the data by using the one-time password. The proposed scheme provides selective sharing, download confirmation and efficient storage management. In terms of security, the proposed scheme supports authentication, entity privacy, replay attack protection and disguise prevention. We also implement the proposed system and find that the system is very useful among P2P service of closed user groups.

아세톤 풀 증발 실험을 통한 원격 유·누출 모니터링 시스템의 효용성 확인 (Confirmation of the Efectiveness of Remote Chemical Spills and Leak Monitoring System through Acetone Pool Evaporation Experiments)

  • In this study, the spill and leak system is developed to provide real-time remote monitoring of industrial complexes where chemical accidents have been occurring every year. The spill and leak monitoring system uses IR-RCD equipment mounted on a 70m-high steel tower to detect chemical substances, thereby detecting chemical accidents such as leaks, fires, and explosions in real time. If IR-RCD equipment can actually detect chemical substances at a long distance, accurate and rapid initial response can be expected. Therefore, in order to confirm that IR-RCD equipment can detect chemical leakage accidents occurring at a long distance, acetone was selected as the experimental substance and a detection experiment was designed. The experiment was conducted using the acetone pool evaporation method at the wharf which was located 1.5 km away from IR-RCD equipment, and it was confirmed whether IR-RCD equipment could detect acetone in real time through the control monitor.

  • 해상을 통한 물동량이 전체 97% 차지하고 있어 효율적인 항만 운영 관리 시스템을 통해 작업효율을 높이는 동시에 운영비용을 절감하고, 관리자가 작업 지연 및 장비 지원이 필요한 상황이 발생한 경우 신속하게 이를 확인하여 대처할 필요가 있다. 기존 시스템은 GPS 을 이용한 야드 자동화 장비의 실시간 위치정보 확인을 토대로 작업 완료 혹은 작업 시작에 따라 입력된 정보로 위치 정보를 모니터링하고 있다. 기존 시스템보다 태블릿의 GPS 시스템으로 실시간 위치정보 확인 시스템이 야드 조업 장비의 위치 확인에 있어 더욱 정확한 정보 제공이 가능하다. 야드장 내의 통신망에서도 컨테이너로 인한 음영이 없는 상용 LTE 서비스를 활용한 망 구성이 컨테이너 처리 지연을 줄인다. 마지막으로 안드로이드나 IOS를 사용하는 스마트단말기의 도입과 인공지능을 활용한 컨테이너 처리 스케줄링을 통해 컨테이너 처리 어플리케이션의 스마트 단말 사용과 컨테이너 작업 스케줄의 최적화를 통한 최소 지연시스템을 구축한다. 스마트 단말의 도입과 인공지능을 활용한 컨테이너 처리 지연의 최소화는 컨테이너 정보 요구자인 소비자에게 실시간으로 컨테이너의 처리과정을 확인시킴으로써 항만 서비스의 질적 향상이 예상된다.

Feasibility of Single-Shot Whole Thoracic Time-Resolved MR Angiography to Evaluate Patients with Multiple Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformations

  • Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of single-shot whole thoracic time-resolved MR angiography (TR-MRA) to identify the feeding arteries of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) and reperfusion of the lesion after embolization in patients with multiple PAVMs. Materials and Methods: Nine patients (8 females and 1 male; age range, 23-65 years) with a total of 62 PAVMs who underwent percutaneous embolization for multiple PAVMs and were subsequently followed up using TR-MRA and CT obtained within 6 months from each other were retrospectively reviewed. All imaging analyses were performed by two independent readers blinded to clinical information. The visibility of the feeding arteries on maximum intensity projection (MIP) reconstruction and multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) TR-MRA images was evaluated by comparing them to CT as a reference. The accuracy of TR-MRA for diagnosing reperfusion of the PAVM after embolization was assessed in a subgroup with angiographic confirmation. The reliability between the readers in interpreting the TR-MRA results was analyzed using kappa (κ) statistics. Results: Feeding arteries were visible on the original MIP images of TR-MRA in 82.3% (51/62) and 85.5% (53/62) of readers 1 and 2, respectively. Using the MPR, the rates increased to 93.5% (58/62) and 95.2% (59/62), respectively (κ = 0.760 and 0.792, respectively). Factors for invisibility were the course of feeding arteries in the anteroposterior plane, proximity to large enhancing vessels, adjacency to the chest wall, pulsation of the heart, and small feeding arteries. Thirty-seven PAVMs in five patients had angiographic confirmation of reperfusion status after embolization (32 occlusions and 5 reperfusions). TR-MRA showed 100% (5/5) sensitivity and 100% (32/32, including three cases in which the feeding arteries were not visible on TR-MRA) specificity for both readers. Conclusion: Single-shot whole thoracic TR-MRA with MPR showed good visibility of the feeding arteries of PAVMs and high accuracy in diagnosing reperfusion after embolization. Single-shot whole thoracic TR-MRA may be a feasible method for the follow-up of patients with multiple PAVMs.

ADS-B를 이용한 착륙 항공기의 활주로 점유 시간 분석 (Analysis of Runway Occupancy Time Using ADS-B Message about Landing Airplane)

  • 활주로 및 유도로는 항공기가 이착륙하기 위한 기본 시설로서, 활주로 처리 용량은 공항의 수용 능력을 결정하는 주요 지표 중 하나이다. 항공기의 활주로 점유 시간은 이러한 활주로 처리 용량에 영향을 미치는 요소이다. 활주로 점유시간 확인을 위해서는 공항의 지상 감시 항적자료를 분석하여 항공기가 사용한 유도로를 확인하고 각 지점의통과 시간을 측정하는 것이 일반적인 방법이다. 본 연구는 항공기에서 송신하는 ADS-B 메시지를 이용한 착륙 항공기의 활주로 점유 시간에 대한 연구로 착륙 항공기의 활주로 점유 시간에 대한 분석과 고속 탈출 유도로를 포함한 활주로 사용 이력에 대한 분석을 수행 하였다. 분석 결과 공항의 구조로 인하여 동일한 활주로를 사용할 때에도 착륙 방향과 항공기 등급에 따라 활주로 점유시간이 차이가 나는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 분석된 활주로 점유시간은 항공교통시뮬레이션을 위한 기본 자료로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.
