구속신장시험에 의한 토목섬유의 인장력-변형률거동 특성 (Stress-Strain Properties of Geosynthetics by Confined Extension Tests)

  • In this study. stress-strain relationships were investigated by performing the confined extension tests for seven types of geosynthetics such as geotextiles, composite geosynthetics and geogrids. A comparison was made between unconfined and confined moduli for each geosynthetic material to quantify the soil confinement effect on stress-strain properties. A comparison was also made between the increase of moduli at the same strain level with the types of the geosynthetics to demonstrate the different stress-strain responses. Based on the result of the extension tests, the higher the confining stress, the larger the secant modulus of geosynthetics. The secant modulus at 5% strain is twice as much as that of 10% strain, especially there is a noticeable increasing of secant modulus for the two nonwoven geotextiles.

  • In this study, flexural strength properties of SC shear walls were investigated through static pushover test. Failure modes and stiffness characteristics of SC shear walls under lateral loads were inspected by analyzing the experimental results. Main failures of unstiffened SC shear walls were found to be the type of bending shear failure due to the unbonding of the steel plate at the concrete interface. The ductility capacity of SC structures was also confirmed to be improved, which is considered to be a confining effect on steel plates in the longitudinal behavior of SC shear walls.

  • Strain-stress behavior of soil is of importance in dealing with geo-techniques which relate to bearing capacity, slope stability, earth pressure and many geo-technical problems. So understanding mechanism of the behavior and reinforcing soil to the required state has been an issue for many years. This paper presents the possibility of magnetic force in enhancing shear strength. To analyze the reinforcing effect, triaxial compression tests were performed on two sets of steel-sand mixtures, one of which is influenced by permanent magnet, NdFeB. With magnetic force under 50 kPa confining pressure, maximum shear strengths increased according to steel percentages but under 100 kPa, no significant changes in maximum shear strengths occurred. Therefore the analysis by Mohr's circles indicates that magnetic force converts the shearing characteristics of sand into those of clay.

  • 이 연구에서는 화학액으로서 해안가에서 쉽게 영향 받는 염분을 사용하였다. 염분 용액으로 포화된 모래 벤토나이트 혼합토를 사용하여 압밀 비배수 삼축압축 시험을 실시하였다. 변형과 강도정수를 삼축압축시험을 통하여 구속응력과 염수의 농도 변화에 따라 구하였다. 실험 결과 영수로 포화된 흙과 벤토나이트의 점착력은 염수의 농도가 증가함에 따라 증가하며 내부마찰각은 변화가 없고 탄성계수는 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Prestressed composite girder bridges with concrete infilled steel tube at negative flexural moment region takes the advantages of enhancing local buckling and flexural resistances resulting from the lateral confining effect of concrete due to the interactive reaction in the interface layer of steel tube and concrete. The interface behavior in concrete infilled tube of the test composite girder is analyzed by 8-node zero thickness interface finite element combined with 3-D. elastoplastic concrete constitutive model and 3-D. elastoplastic Mindlin shell element. The interface effects between infillled concrete and steel tube are investigated through the comparision of the experimental and numerical results.

Effects of Matrix Ductility on the Shear Performance of Precast Reinforced HPFRCC Coupling Beams

  • This paper investigates the effect of ductile deformation behavior of high performance hybrid fiber-reinforced cement composites (HPHFRCCs) on the shear behavior of coupling beams to lateral load reversals. The matrix ductility and the reinforcement layout were the main variables of the tests. Three short coupling beams with two different reinforcement arrangements and matrixes were tested. They were subjected to cyclic loading by a suitable experimental setup. All specimens were characterized by a shear span-depth ratio of 1.0. The reinforcement layouts consisted of a classical scheme and diagonal scheme without confining ties. The effects of matrix ductility on deflections, strains, crack widths, crack patterns, failure modes, and ultimate shear load of coupling beams have been examined. The combination of a ductile cementitious matrix and steel reinforcement is found to result in improved energy dissipation capacity, simplification of reinforcement details, and damage-tolerant inelastic deformation behavior. Test results showed that the HPFRCC coupling beams behaved better than normal reinforced concrete control beams. These results were produced by HPHFRCC's tensile deformation capacity, damage tolerance and tensile strength.

  • This paper introduces a new method of improvement for marine soft ground, MLPP(Marine Large Pack Pile). The MLPP is a reinforcement technique for the conventional SCP or GCP piles by confining with geotextile pack. A pilot project at Busan New Port site and laboratory model tests were carried out to investigate the settlement reduction and bearing capacity enhancement effect of pack pile. The results of field and laboratory tests show that MLPP method can be a safe and economic alternative method for SCP and GCP.

  • Due to a lack of the hoop action of lateral reinforcements the effective confining force in rectangular sections reduces compared to circular ones. Therefore, the stress-strain model obtained from the experimental data with circular sections overestimates the lateral confinement effect in rectangular sections, which evaluates seismic safety margin of overall structural system excessively. In this study experiments with laterally-confined square sections have been performed and the characteristic values composing stress-strain model have been analyzed. With introduction of section coefficients, in addition, the new unified stress-strain model applicable to square sections as well as circular ones has been proposed.

  • Two different strength types of plain concrete plate specimens (200$\times$200$\times$60mm) were tested under different biaxial load combinations. The specimens were subjected to biaxial combinations covering the three regions of compression-compression, compression-tension, and tension-tension. The loading platens with Teflon pads were used to reduce a confining effect in boundary surface between the concrete specimen and the solid platen. The principal deformations in the specimens were recorded, and the failure modes along with each stress ratio were examined. Based on the strength data, the failure envelops were developed for each type of plain concrete. The biaxial stress-strain responses of concrete plate specimens for three biaxial loading regions were also plotted. The test data indicated that the strength of concrete under biaxial compression ($f_2 / f_1$$_1$=-1/-1) is about 17 percent larger than under uniaxial compression.

  • Since most soils exist above the ground water table, negative pore pressure exist in unsaturated soils. Negative pore water pressure in unsaturated soil affects the soil structure and degree of saturation and it is important for accurate evaluation of unsaturate flow and behavior. This negative pore pressure is called a matric suction which causes an increased shear strength. Therefore, it is required that the effect of increase in the shear strength should be included in a geotechnical analysis. From the test result, the influence of net confining pressure and matric suction on the shear strength was analyzed and strength parameter was increased with matric suction increase and a unliner relationship was found to relate matric suction and shear strength.
