  • FORTRAN program PHYLS was developed to model the structures of 2:1 1M and 2M1 phyllosilicates on the basis of geometrical analyses. Input to PHYLS requires the chemical composition and d(001) spacing of the mineral. The output from PHYLS consists of the coordinates of the crystallographically independent sites in the unit cell, and such structural parameters as the cell dimensions, interaxial angle, cell volume, interatomic distances, and deformation angles of the polyhedra. PHYLS can generate these structural details according to the user's choice of space group and cation configuration. User can choose one of such space groups as C2/m, C2,and C2/c and such cation configurations as random and ordered tetrachedral/octahedral cation configurations. PHYLS simulated the structures of dioctahedral and trioctahedral phyllosilicates having random tetrahedral cation configuration fairly close to the reported experimentally determined structures. In contrast, the simulated structures for ordered tetrahedral cation configurations showed greater deviation from the experimentally determined structures than those for random configurations. However, if the cations were partially ordered and the sizes of the tetrahedra became similar, the simulated PHYLS may be helpful in various investigations on the relationships between structures and physicochemical properties of the phyllosilicates.

Combustion Stability Characteristics of the Model Chamber with Various Configurations of Triplet Impinging-Jet Injectors

  • Combustion stability characteristics in actual full-scale combustion chamber of a rocket engine are investigated by experimental tests with the model (sub-scale) chamber. The present hot-fire tests adopt the combustion chamber with three configurations of triplet impinging-jet injectors such as F-O-O-F, F-O-F, and O-F-O configurations. Combustion stability bound-aries are obtained and presented by the parameters of combustion-chamber pressure and mixture (oxidizer/fuel) ratio. From the experimental tests, two instability regions are observed and the pressure oscillations have the similar patterns irrespective of injector configuration. But, the O-F-O injector configuration shows broader upper-instability region than the other configurations. To verify the instability mechanism for the lower and upper instability regions, air-purge acoustic test is conducted and the photograph or the flames is taken. As a result, it is found that the pressure oscillations in the two regions can be characterized by the first impinging point of hydraulic jets and pre-blowout combustion, respectively.

  • 본 논문에서는 다양한 배열을 가지는 기판에서의 특이 광 투과 센서 시스템의 센싱 성능을 조사하였다. 보조파장 홀 어레이 구조는 어레이의 주기와 격자 배열을 달리하여 제작하였고, 특이 광 투과 센서 시스템으로 제작한 기판에서의 투과 스펙트럼을 측정하였다. 굴절률이 다른 유전물질을 이용하여 투과 스펙트럼을 관찰한 결과 어레이의 주기가 증가할수록 센서의 민감도가 높아짐을 보았다. 또한 육각형 어레이에서 측정한 결과와 비교하였을 때 정사각형 어레이에서 센서의 성능이 향상됨을 입증하였다.

Analysis of Web Browser Security Configuration Options

  • For ease of use and access, web browsers are now being used to access and modify sensitive data and systems including critical control systems. Due to their computational capabilities and network connectivity, browsers are vulnerable to several types of attacks, even when fully updated. Browsers are also the main target of phishing attacks. Many browser attacks, including phishing, could be prevented or mitigated by using site-, user-, and device-specific security configurations. However, we discovered that all major browsers expose disparate security configuration procedures, option names, values, and semantics. This results in an extremely hard to secure web browsing ecosystem. We analyzed more than a 1000 browser security configuration options in three major browsers and found that only 13 configuration options had syntactic and semantic similarity, while 4 configuration options had semantic similarity, but not syntactic similarity. We: a) describe the results of our in-depth analysis of browser security configuration options; b) demonstrate the complexity of policy-based configuration of web browsers; c) describe a knowledge-based solution that would enable organizations to implement highly-granular and policy-level secure configurations for their information and operational technology browsing infrastructures at the enterprise scale; and d) argue for necessity of developing a common language and semantics for web browser configurations.

Numerical analysis of the effect of V-angle on flying wing aerodynamics

  • In current research work, the aerodynamics performance of a newly designed large flying V aircraft is numerically investigated. Three Flying V configurations, with V-angles of 50°, 70° and 90° that represent the minimum, moderate, and maximum configurations respectively, were designed and modeled to assess their aerodynamic performance at cruise flight conditions. The unstructured mesh was developed using ICEM CFD and Ansys-Fluent was used as an aerodynamic solver. The developed models were numerically simulated at cruise flight conditions with a Mach number equal to 0.15. K-ω SST turbulence model was chosen to account for flow turbulence.The authors performed steady flow simulations.The results obtained from the experimentation reveal that the maximum main angle configuration of 90° had the highest CLmax value of 0.46 compared to other configurations. While the drag coefficient remained the same for all three configurations, the 50° V-angle configuration achieved the maximum stall angle of 35°. With limited stall delay benefits, the flying V possesses no sufficient stability, due to the flow separation detected at whole elevon and winglet suction side areas at AoA equal and higher than 30°.

Structural configurations and dynamic performances of flexible riser with distributed buoyancy modules based on FEM simulations

  • Flexible risers are usually used as conveying systems to bring ocean resources from sea bed up to onshore. Under ocean environments, risers need to bear complex loads and it is crucial to comprehensively examine riser's configurations and to analyze structural dynamic performances under excitation of bottom vehicle motions, to guarantee structural safe operation and required service lives. In this study, considering a saddle-shaped riser, the influences of some important design parameters, including installation position of buoyancy modules, buoyancy ratio and motion of mining vehicle, on riser's configuration and response are carefully examined. Through our FEM simulations, the spatial distributions of structural tensions and curvatures along of riser length, under different configurations, are compared. Then, the impacts of mining vehicle motion on riser dynamic response are discussed, and structural tolerance performance is assessed. The results show that modules installation position and buoyancy ratio have significant impacts on riser configurations. And, an appropriate riser configuration is obtained through comprehensive analysis on the modules positions and buoyancy ratios. Under this proposed configuration, the structural tension and curvature could moderately change with buoyancy modules and bottom-end conditions, in other words, the proposed saddle-shaped riser has a good tolerance performance to various load excitations.

Review of Testing Configurations for Simultaneous Measurement of Friction and Triboelectrification

  • The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has emerged as a groundbreaking technology for harvesting clean and sustainable energy cost effectively. For reliable TENG design, minimizing wear damage at the friction layers is crucial. This review provides a comprehensive overview of tribometer-integrated TENG testing configurations used in the simultaneous investigation of both tribological and electrical performance. It considers configurations such as plate-on-plate, ball-on-disc, and ball-on-flat tribometers designed for linear reciprocating or rotating sliding friction tests. These tribometers are either specifically designed or adapted for TENG testing. Triboelectric material holders facilitate friction tests by establishing electrical connections from the triboelectric materials or electrodes, thereby enabling accurate measurement of electrical signals. Electrometers and oscilloscopes record electrical outputs such as short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage. This integration enables the simultaneous measurement of both friction and electrical outputs, providing a thorough understanding of TENG performance. The review also summarizes how factors such as normal force, sliding frequency, and rotating speed affect friction coefficients and TENG performance. It also examines the relationship between the coefficient of friction and tribocharges under various loads and frequencies. The review emphasizes the importance of these testing configurations for evaluating both friction and electrical performance, which are crucial for optimizing TENG efficiency. Finally, the review explores future prospects for developing innovative tribometer designs suited for both tribology and TENG testing.

시맨틱 웹 기술을 이용한 특성 구성 검증 (Feature Configuration Validation using Semantic Web Technology)

  • 소프트웨어 제품들 사이의 공통된 개념과 서로 다른 개념들을 표현한 특성 모델과, 특정 제품에 포함될 특성들을 선택한 결과인 특성 구성은 소프트웨어 프러덕트 라인 개발 방법론에서 핵심 요소이다. 이들에 대한 정형적 시맨틱과 논리적 추론에 대한 연구가 진행 중이지만 시맨틱 웹 기술을 이용한 특성 모델 온톨로지 구축과 특성 구성 검증에 대한 연구는 아직 부족한 상황이다. 본 논문에서는 온톨로지와 시맨틱 웹 기술을 이용하여 특성 모델의 정형적 시맨틱을 정의하고 특성 구성을 검증하는 기법을 제안한다. 특성 모델과 특성 구성에 포함된 지식을 시맨틱 웹 표준 언어인 OWL(Web Ontology Language)로 표현하고 특성 구성을 검증하기 위한 규칙은 시맨틱 웹 규칙 언어인 SWRL(Semantic Web Rule Language)로 정의한다. 본 논문의 기법은, 특성 모델의 정형적 시맨틱을 제공하며 특성 구성 검증을 자동화할 뿐 만 아니라 SQWRL과 같은 다양한 시맨틱 웹 기술 적용을 가능하게 한다.

Nonequilibrium Domain Configurations Undergoing Large Angle Rotations in Mesoscopic Magnetic Thin Film Elements (retracted)

  • The physical origin of complex dynamic domain configuration in nonequilibrium magnetic systems with mesoscopic length scales has been studied. An increasing complexity in the spatial feature of the evolution is found to accompany the increasing reversal speed, when a ferromagnetic element is driven by progressively faster switching fields applied antiparallel to the initial magnetization direction. As reversal rates approach the characteristic precession frequencies of spin fluctuations, the thermal energy can boost the magnetization into local configurations which are completely different from those experienced during quasistatic reversal. The sensitive dependence of the spatial pattern on switching speed can be understood in terms of a dynamic exchange interaction of thermally excited spins; the coherent modulation of the spins is strongly dependent on the rise time of switching pulses.

하이브리드 PEM 연료전지 시스템의 성능 비교해석 (Comparative Performance Analysis of Hybrid PEM Fuel Cell Hybrid Systems)

  • Design performances of various configurations of the PEMFC/GT hybrid systems have been evaluated. Based on PEMFC adopting steam reforming, various system configurations (one ambient pressure configuration and three different pressurized configurations) were designed and their performances were compared. Their Performances are also compared with the reference PEMFC system. Influences of turbine inlet temperature, pressure ratio on the hybrid systems performance were investigated and design ranges exhibits better efficiency than the PEMFC system were presented. One of the pressurized system may have much higher efficiency than the PEMFC system, while other systems hardly provide efficiency upgrade.
