  • A cavitator plays an important role to generate the supercavity. Most previous numerical and experimental studies have been focused on the presence of cavitators alone. However, the body behind the cavitator causes a change in the wake flow and hence it affects generation and growth of the supercavity. In this paper, we present a boundary elementary method based on a potential flow analysis, and calculate characteristics of the supercavity formation depending on the change of the body shape of two-dimensional submerged objects. Various parameters such as cone angle of the cavitator, length of the forehead and diameter of the body are considered. The results show that the longer the forepart length, the longer the cavity is created under the same conditions, and also the change in the diameter of the body is the most influential factor on the growth of the supercavity. As a result, we suggest that it is necessary to carefully consider the influence of the body shape during the initial design stage of the supercavitating underwater vehicle.

  • Proof correction to the equation in the third paragraph of the DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION has not been carried faithfully to the published version of the paper. The corrected equation should read ${\approx}10^{-3}\;M_8^4/^3(N_{\ast}/10^6\;pc^{-3})({\sigma}/300 km\;s^{-l})^{-l}(r/r_t)\;yr^{-1}$, where Ms is the mass of the SMBH in units of $10^8\;M_{\bigodot}$, $\sigma$ is the virial velocity of the stars, $r_t$ is the tidal radius of the SMBH. This estimates the frequency that a star would pass within a sphere with the radius r from the SMBH, rather than the frequency of the tidal disruption event. Therefore, it increases with the mass of the SMBH. However, the loss cone effect should also be taken into account, which reduces the actual event rate. Here, we adopted a factor of one hundred to consider the deficiency from the isotrophic rate. The authors sincerely regret this error.

  • PJB(Prefabricated Joint Box) is consisted of three major components ; an epoxy unit, a stress relief cone and a spring unit. The insulation structure of PJB is maintained by the interfacial pressure, and the dielectric performance at the interface depends on the interfacial pressure which is regarded as the most important factor for preventing breakdown failure. This experiment was performed to investigate breakdown voltage characteristic and partial discharge patterns under the controlled pressure conditions at the simulated interface. Finally, this paper presents the optimal pressure conditions at the interface by analyasing the PD patterns.

  • On this study, we verified the possibilities of making T-branch pipe forming with carbon steel pipes and stainless steel pipes used by common FEM Program(ABAQUS) which are widely used in the fire protection and building construction fields. In this kind of T-branch pipe forming works, in principle, the seamless pipe is used. If the pipe has the seam, the forming face must be the opposite side of the seam. The forming works are carried out by a truncated cone shaped plug. We found that the face slope and the length of plug are the most important factor in pipe forming. Based on the results of forming analyses, we proposed the minimum height and thickness of pipe branch forming.

  • In this study a quasi-dimensional model is developed to predict the combustion process and emissions of a GDI engine under ultra-lean conditions. Combustion of a GDI engine condition is modeled as two simultaneous processes to consider significant fuel stratification. The first process is premixed flame propagation described as burning in a hemispherically propagating flame. The second is diffusion-controlled combustion modeled as mixing of multiple spray zones in the burned gas region. Mixing is an important factor in ultra-lean conditions leaving stratified mixture of developing sprays behind the propagating premixed flame. Sheet breakup and Hiroyasu models are applied to predict the velocity of a hollow cone spray. Validation is performed against measured pressures and NOx and CO emissions at different load and rpm conditions in the test engine.

  • Cement paste is originally the basic material and crucial factor consisting concrete. This study investigates the relationship between flow apparatuses, which are ring flow(R-F), flow cone(F-C) and mini slump(M-S), in order to estimate the fluidity of cement Paste. For quantitatively evaluating the measured data this study also investigated the calibration of the rheology consistent, such as yield value and plastic viscosity, of cement paste using viscometer For this purpose the present work discussed the influence of 3 type of ordinary portland cement with different companies, affecting the fluidity of cement paste. and it also demonstrated the influence of the various kinds of mineral admixtures, such as fly ash(FA), blast furnace slag(BS) and silica fume(SF) and that of incorporating ratio. The author concluded that using R-F apparatus is the most effective flow test method of cement paste and it is exactly proportional to other apparatus' rheological properties.

  • A study is analyzed on the design factor of center-body diffuser and performed on conceptual design of center-body diffuser with computational fluid dynamic. The flow field of center-body diffuser is calculated using axisymmetric two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation with $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulencemodel. The center-body diffuser is compared with second throat exhaust diffuser in terms of starting pressure, the degree of vacuum pressure and the design factors. The counter flow jet on cone-tip of the center-body is applied for thermal protection system in the center-body diffuser.

  • There has been growing agreement that geotechnical reliability-based design (RBD) is necessary for establishing more advanced and integrated design system. In this study, resistance factors for LRFD pile design using CPT results were investigated for axially loaded driven piles. In order to address variability in design methodology, different CPT-based methods and load-settlement criteria, popular in practice, were selected and used for evaluation of resistance factors. A total of 32 data sets from 13 test sites were collected from the literature. In order to maintain the statistical consistency of the data sets, the characteristic pile load capacity was introduced in reliability analysis and evaluation of resistance factors. It was found that values of resistance factors considerably differ for different design methods, load-settlement criteria, and load capacity components. For the total resistance, resistance factors for LCPC method were higher than others, while those for Aoki-Velloso's and Philipponnat's methods were in similar ranges. In respect to load-settlement criteria, 0.1B and Chin's criteria produced higher resistance factors than DeBeer's and Davisson's criteria. Resistance factors for the base and shaft resistances were also presented and analyzed.

  • The improvement of surface roughness of machined cylindrical rods through the plastic polishing process was studied in this paper. The criterion and limits for the plastic polishing process due to the wave motion of the ridge were established with respect to process variables: ridge shape and size, semi-cone die angle as well as friction factor, by the application of the upper-bound approach. The surface roughness of the plastic polished products was measured, and compared with that of the original specimen. Also the depth of the surface deformation layer was tested, and compared those of the theoretical values. Qualitative agreement exists between the experimental plastic polishing loads and theoretical loads. The wave motion of the ridge was mostly occurred within the established limits. The surface roughness of specimens was sufficiently improved through the present process. Also the predicted depth of the surface deformation layer was in good agreement with experimental results.
