In this study, using the silicone rubber sample of $4cm{\times}4cm{\times}0.1cm$ for low voltage cable, the electrostatic electrification properties of three samples that the conductive Al of 0%, 25%, and 50% is attached to the surface of sample was measured. The following conclusion was obtained through this experiment. 1) In case of the sample which has the Al area of 50%, the higher the humidity to 90% in the temperature of $10^{\circ}C$, the electrostatic electrification voltage was reduced about 0.25 kV to 0.02 kV, and it confirmed that the electrostatic electrification voltage was in constant about 0.02 kV in the temperature over $20^{\circ}C$. 2) Increasing the Al area of samples of 0%, 25%, and 50% in temperature of $10^{\circ}C$, it confirmed that the electrostatic electrification voltage was reduced by about 2.67 kV, 2.02 k, 0.21 kV. 3) This study shows that the conductor, followed by temperature and humidity affects the electrostatic electrification voltage.
To realize artificial device with sensing ability of the human skin, a mono-material tactile sensor with three sensing functions made of some elastic thin electro-conductive rubber sheet with eight latticed patch elements is proposed. This trial sensor provides the information of three kinds of model material characteristics such as thermal property, hardness property and the surface situation of materials by setting up three kinds of surface models as test materials. It can be finally expected to estimate unknown model materials by analyzing the data of the sensor.
This study presents the thermal behaviors of glass beads-rubber mixtures depending on the volumetric fraction of each constituent and relative size between them. The transient plane source method is used to measure the effective thermal conductivity of mixtures. The discrete element method (DEM) and the thermal network model are integrated to investigate the particle-scale mechanism of heat transfer in granular packings. Results show that 1) the effective thermal conductivity decreases as the rubber fraction increases, and 2) the relative size between two solid particles dominates the spatial configuration of inter-particle contact condition that in tum determines the majority of heat propagation path through particle contacts. For the mixtures whose volumetric fraction of rubber is identical, the less conductive materials (e.g., rubber particles) with a large size facilitate heat transfer in granular materials. The experimental results and particle-scale observation highlight that the thermal conduction behavior is dominated not only by the volumetric fraction but also the spatial configuration of each constituent.

In this paper, we investigated the effects of short-term oxygen plasma treatment of semiconducting silicone layer to improve interfacial performances in joints prepared with a insulating silicone materials. Surface characterizations were assessed using contact angle measurement and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and then adhesion level and electrical performance were evaluated through T-peel tests and electrical breakdown voltage tests of treated semi-conductive and insulating joints. Plasma exposure mainly increased the polar component of surface energy from $0.21\;dyne/cm^2$ to $47\;dyne/cm^2$ with increasing plasma treatment time and then leveled off. Based on XPS analysis, the surface modification can be mainly ascribed to the creation of chemically active functional groups such as C-O, C=O and COH on semi-conductive silicone surface. This oxidized rubber layer is inorganic silica-like structure of Si bound with three to four oxygen atoms ($SiO_x,\;x=3{\sim}4$). The oxygen plasma treatment produces an increase in joint strength that is maximum for 10 min treatment. However, due to brittle property of this oxidized layer, the highly oxidized layer from too much extended treatment could be act as a weak point, decreasing the adhesion strength. In addition, electrical breakdown level of joints with adequate plasma treatment was increased by about $10\;\%$ with model samples of joints prepared with a semi-conducting/ insulating silicone polymer after applied to interface.

Conductive microspheres with a density of 0.2 g/cc were fabricated by electroless silver plating for application to the light-weighted microwave absorbers. The silver plating was conducted with the variation of plating conditions (sensitizing condition, $AgNO_3$, concentration, amount of reducing agent). Specimens have very low electro-resistivity. Under an optimum processing condition, conductive microspheres with uniform silver plating layer can be produced. Rubber-sphere composites were fabricated and their microwave absorbing properties were measured by HP8722D Network Analyzer. It was found that the lower the electrical resistance of microsphere, the better the microwave absorbing properties. Feasibility of microwave absorbers using this microspheres can be demonstrated with the result of microwave reflection loss of -15 dB and thickness of 1.44 mm.
This research is the development of a skin-type tactile sensor for service robot using PVDF film for the detection of the contact state. The Prototype of the tactile sensor which has 8$\times$8 taxels was fabricated using PVDF film In the fabrication procedure of the sensor, the electrode patterns and common electrode of the thin conductive tape were attached to the both side of the 28 micro meter thickness PVDF film using conductive adhesive. The sensor was covered with polyester film for insulation and attached to the rubber base for making stable structure. The signals of a contact pressure to the tactile sensor were sensed and processed in the DSP system in which the signals were digitized and filtered. Finally, the signals were integrated for taking the force profile. The processed signals of the output of the sensor were visualized in PC, the shape and force distribution of the contact object were obtained. The reasonable performance for the detection of contact state was verified through the experiment.

The thermal conductivity and the adhesive properties were measured, after synthesis of thermal conductive composite which was obtained as a result of mixing alumina or graphite with acrylic adhesive synthesized by UV polymerization. The adhesive properties of the composite were evaluated measuring the peel strength at 180 degrees, the retention, and the initial tack;the thermal conductivity was estimated using laser flash analysis. As the filler contents increased, a decrease in peel strength and initial tack and an increase in retention and thermal conductivity were observed. When compared to alumina, the adhesion of graphite showed a dramatic decrease, whereas the thermal conductivity was further enhanced. It was found out that the small size of graphite increased the mechanical interlocking between the polymer and the filler, and it was easier for graphite to come into contact with other graphite in the matrix.
The elastomeric and conductive polyurethane (PU) films were prepared by poly(propylene glycol) (PPG), toluene 2,4-diisocyanate, 3-methylthiophene (3-MT) at various preparation conditions, such as the reaction time, the $FeCl_3$ concentration, the weight ratio of the 3-MT to PU and the reaction temperature for the diffusion-oxidative reaction. The conductive poly (3-methylthiophene) (PMT) layers via the diffusion-oxidative reaction of 3-MT and ferric chloride were formed by immersing the film in organic solution of $FeCl_3$/ethyl acetate. The preparation conditions greatly affected the electrical conductivity of the 3-MT/PU composite. The effects of the reaction time and temperature on morphology and surface free energy were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis and contact angle measurement, respectively. The conductivity of the composite was as high as 42 S/cm.
Highly conductive bipolar plate for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) was prepared using phenol novolac-type epoxy/graphite powder (GP)/carbon fiber filament (CFF) composite, and a rubber-modified epoxy resin was introduced in order to give elasticity to the bipolar plate graphite fiber (GF) was incorporated in order to improve electrical conductivity. To find out the cure condition of the mixture of novolac-type and rubber-modified epoxies, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was carried out and their data were introduced to Kissinger equation. And tensile and flexural tests were carried out using universal testing machine (UTM) and the surface morphology of the fractured specimen and the interfacial bonding between epoxy matrix and CFF or GF were observed by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
Herein, we investigated the thermal conductivity and thermal stability of natural rubber composite systems containing hybrid fillers of boron nitride (BN) and aluminum nitride (AlN). In the hybrid system, the bimodal distribution of polygonal AlN and planar BN particles provided excellent filler-packing efficiency and desired energy path for phonon transfer, resulting in high thermal conductivity of 1.29 W/mK, which could not be achieved by single filler composites. Further, polyethylene glycol (PEG) was compounded with a commonly used naphthenic oil, which substantially increased thermal conductivity to 3.51 W/mK with an excellent thermal stability due to facilitated energy transfer across the filler-filler interface. The resulting PEG-incorporated hybrid composite showed a high thermal degradation temperature (T2) of 290℃, a low coefficient of thermal expansion of 26.4 ppm/℃, and a low thermal distortion parameter of 7.53 m/K, which is well over the naphthenic oil compound. Finally, using the Fourier's law of conduction, we suggested a modeling methodology to evaluate the cooling performance in thermal management system.
