We present a process for printing active matrix displays. In this process, transistors are fabricated using soluble semi-conducting and conducting materials. Accurate definition of the transistor channel and other circuit components is achieved by direct inkjet printing combined with surface energy patterning. We present results on our 4,800 pixel, 50 dpi, active matrix displays.

A composite plastic, where long metallic fibers are used as filling materials, is transformed from nonconducting to conducting medium as the volume fraction of filling metallic fibers is increased from zero : such drastic change in property is called the percolation. It is desired both for practical and theoretical purposes to understand the physics underlying the percolation and to estimate the percolation threshold that is defined by the minimum volume fraction of the metallic fibers for which the percolation occurs. In this study, percolation thresholds are calculated by Monte Carlo Computer simulation. Both lattice and continuum spaces are considered and detailed microstructures of metallic fibers are modelled as rigid and flexible bodies for both model spaces. Simulations are carried out for wide range of aspect ratios and discussions are given.

Flexible, transparent thin-film transistor with active layers composed of carbon nanotube-based conducting ink were fabricated on a plastic substrate by ink-jet printing. The properties of the formulated conducting ink containing carbon nanotubes, a conducting polymer, and additives were characterized and optimized. The conducting ink was applied to flexible thin-film transistors using ink-jet printing.

Solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells were fabricated using a polymer matrix in electrolyte in the purpose of the improvement of the durability in the dye-sensitized solar cell. In these dye-sensitized solar cells, the polymer electrolyte consisting of $I_2$, LiI, ionic liquid, ethylene carbonate/propylene carbonate and polymer matrix was casted onto $TiO_2$ electrode impregnated Ruthenium complex dye as a photosensitizer. Photovoltaic properties of solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells using polymer matrix (PMMA, PEG, or PAN) were investigated. Comparing photovoltaic effects of cells using hole conducting polymers (BE or 6P) instead of polymer matrix, we investigated the availability of the solid-state polymer electrolyte in dye-sensitized solar cells.
It is well known that patients with severe facial injuries accompanied by facial disfiguration are vulnerable to a poor quality of life. With the help of facial transplantation, it has become possible to achieve an optimal anatomical reconstruction. As compared to conventional methods, it can provide more desirable functional, aesthetic, and psychosocial outcomes. Face transplantation surgeons need to consider many problems associated with the criteria for selecting patients, techniques for harvesting the donor tissue, prediction of the expected functional outcomes, limitations in obtaining written informed consent for conducting the procedure, evaluation of the post-transplant immunological response and postoperative immunosuppressant requirements, psychological and social outcomes for the patients, and other concerns about funding and ethical issues.
The authors' research group has developed a noncontact type of sensors which directly measure the inter-story drift displacements of a building during a seismic event. Soon after that event, such seismically-induced drift displacement data would provide structural engineers with useful information to judge how the stories have been damaged. This paper presents a scheme of estimating the story cumulative plastic deformation ratios based on such measured drift displacement information toward the building safety monitoring. The presented scheme requires the data of story drift displacements and the ground motion acceleration. The involved calculations are rather simple without any detailed information on structural elements required: the story hysteresis loops are first estimated and then the cumulative plastic deformation ratio of each story is evaluated from the estimated hysteresis. The effectiveness of the scheme is demonstrated by utilizing the data of full-scale building model experiment performed at E-defense and conducting numerical simulations.
Deep soft ground in mouth of Nackdong river requires to be analysed with prediction method concerning characteristics of secondary consolidation from the beginning because it causes excessive settlement due to time-dependant secondary consolidation characteristics. This study investigated characteristics of extended settlement by conducting one-dimensional theory, elasto-plastic model and visco-elasto-plastic model as well as analyzing long-term measuring data observed over 2,000 days. According to one-dimensional theory and elasto-plastic model, there is not definite correlation between height of embankment and depth of soft ground while visco-elasto-plastic model showed similar result of settlement to that of long-term measuring data. Consequently it is suggested that applying visco-elasto-plastic model to developing deep underground place as studied area on predicting extended settlement before construction prevents economic loss and delay during process by preparing secondary consolidation characteristics.

Background Virtual education is an evolving method for teaching medical learners. During the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, remote learning has provided a replacement for conferences, lectures, and meetings, but has not been described as a method for conducting a cadaver dissection. We aim to demonstrate how learners perceive a virtual cadaver dissection as an alternative to live dissection. Methods A virtual cadaver dissection was performed to demonstrate several upper extremity nerve procedures. These procedures were livestreamed as part of an educational event with multimedia and interactive audience questions. Participants were queried both during and after the session regarding their perceptions of this teaching modality. Results Attendance of a virtual dissection held for three plastic surgery training institutions began at 100 and finished with 70 participants. Intrasession response rates from the audience varied between 68 and 75%, of which 75% strongly agreed that they were satisfied with the virtual environment. The audience strongly agreed or agreed that the addition of multimedia captions (88%), magnified video loupe views (82%), and split-screen multicast view (64%) was beneficial. Postsession response rate was 27%, and generally reflected a positive perspective about the content of the session. Conclusions Virtual cadaver dissection is an effective modality for teaching surgical procedures and can be enhanced through technologies such as video loupes and multiple camera perspectives. The audience viewed the virtual cadaver dissection as a beneficial adjunct to surgical education. This format may also make in-person cadaver courses more effective by improving visualization and allowing for anatomic references to be displayed synchronously.

Background: The incidence of skin cancer, which is primarily caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation, has steadily increased in recent years. The authors of the present study sought to investigate changes in the epidemiology of skin cancer by conducting a retrospective review of patients diagnosed with skin cancer who received related care at a single medical institution. Methods: The present study included patients who were diagnosed with skin cancer and received treatment at Gyeongsang National University Hospital from 2008 to 2018. The site and type of skin cancer, the number of patients with skin cancer each year, the sex and sex ratio of the patients, and changes in patients' age at first diagnosis were examined through retrospective chart reviews. Results: The number of patients with skin cancer significantly increased, but statistically significant changes were not found in patients' sex, skin cancer sites, or the types of skin cancer. However, patients' age at the first diagnosis of skin cancer showed a statistically significant decrease starting in 2015. Conclusion: In this study, the number of patients with skin cancer increased over time. However, patients' age at first diagnosis has decreased since 2015. Therefore, younger patients should take care to prevent skin cancer, and further research on the causes of skin cancer in younger patients is needed.
In the design stage of a tunnel, the wall convergence is commonly estimated through an elasto-plastic analysis of the tunnel, which has been a topic drawing many researcher's attention so far. Despite its importance, however, the elasto-plastic behavior of a circular tunnel excavated in a generalized Hoek-Brown rockmass is still poorly understood. In this study, a simple munerical method based on Lee & Pietruszczak (2008) for the elasto-plastic analysis of a circular tunnel surrounded by reinforced annulus is proposed. It is assumed that the tunnel is excavated in a strain-softening rockmass obeying the generalized Hoek-Brown failure condition. The commercial code FLAC is used for the verification of the proposed method. The influence of the Hoek-Brown strength parameter a and the thickness of the reinforcement annulus on the elasto-plastic behavior around the tunnel was discussed by conducting some example analyses. The results show that the influence of these two parameters on the distribution of stresses and displacements is substantial.
