  • PURPOSES : In this study, field performance evaluation of crack treatment of pavement and the feasibility of surface treatment of pavement are presented. The performance and cost of preventive maintenance methods have been previously verified, and the methods are being used in many developed countries and cities. However, the performance and cost of the system have not been verified in domestic, field applications. Therefore, in order to improve performance, the field performance is evaluated, and a reasonable cost is proposed. METHODS : Visual Inspection was conducted to evaluate the field application and performance of the preventive maintenance method. In addition, the PCI index was calculated from the results of visual inspection of the application area of the surface treatment method, and the performance life of each method was predicted. For the economic evaluation, life cycle cost analysis was performed using the life cycle cost analysis program. RESULTS :In order to evaluate and quantify the field performance of crack repair material, the residue condition of the pavement surface after crack treatment, rather than the performance of the material, is evaluated. In addition, the crack resistance and performance life of surface treatment methods are evaluated. The cost of currently available treatment methods are compared to the common pavement cut and overlay method, and it is determined that the preventive method is not economical based on life cycle cost analysis. CONCLUSIONS :Because of the characteristics of cracking, it is necessary to conduct the evaluation of currently applied methods and the analysis of the cause of damage, by visual inspection. Moreover, in order to evaluate the performance and economic suitability of the currently applied surface treatment methods, it is necessary to acquire information on application sections by monitoring their long-term conditions and performance.

  • The control module controlling points has become high-tech. but the introduction of relevant company's inspection intervals and methods, and the adoption of the way which is used in relay interlock system became the cause of a failure by excessive and incorrect maintenance. The Human error in failure recovery process can cause vital accidents including train derailment, the points monitoring system could prevent this problem by monitoring points' operation condition in real time. After conducting the changed inspection intervals that applied the results of the criticality of each failure type, MTBF, MTTR, availability, maintainer's opinion, the work became simplified, and, the failure did not occur for 4 consecutive years in contrast to the previous annual average of 11 failures.

  • The presence of water inside concrete structures is an essential condition for the deterioration of the structures. The free water in the concrete pores and micro-cracks is the culprit for the durability related problems, such as alkali-aggregate reaction, carbonation, freeze-thaw damage, and corrosion of steel reinforcement. To ensure the integrity and safe operation of the concrete structures, it is very important to monitor water seepage inside the concrete. This paper presents the experimental investigation of water seepage monitoring in a concrete slab using piezoelectric-based smart aggregates. In the experimental setup, an $800mm{\times}800mm{\times}100mm$ concrete slab was fabricated with 15 SAs distributed inside the slab. The water seepage process was monitored through interrogating the SA pairs. In each SA pair, one SA was used as actuator to emit harmonic sine wave, and the other was used as sensor to receive the transmitted stress wave. The amplitudes of the received signals were able to indicate the water seepage process inside the concrete slab.

  • The development of automatic production systems have required inteligent diagnostic and monitoring function to repair system failure and reduce production loss by the failure. In order to perform accurate functions of intelligent system, inferencing about total system failure and fault analysis due to each mechanical component failures are required. Also the solution about repair and maintenance can be suggested from these analysis results. As an essential component of mechanical system, a bearing system is investigated to define the failure behavior. The bearing failure is caused by lubricant system failure, metallurgical defficiency, mechanical condition(vibration, overloading, misalignment) and environmental effect. This study described roller bearing fault train due to stress variation and metallurgical defficiency from lubricant failure by using FTA.

  • In order to cope with the requirements of smaller patterns, larger surfaces and lower costs in the fields of displays, optics and energy, greater attentions are now being paid to the development of micro-pattern machining technology. Compared with flat moulds, large drums with micro patterns (roll moulds) have the advantages of short delivery, ease of manufacturing larger surfaces, and continuous moulding. This paper introduced the machining process technology of the roll moulds for display industry. The environmental effects were discussed and the importance of temperature maintenance was experimentally emphasized. The real time monitoring system for micro machining was introduced. A commercial solution was used to simulate the micro grooving and a deformation model of micro machined pattern was finally introduced.

  • Power facilities of urban rail transit substation is deterioration, and endurance limitation is coming, so urban rail transit facilities should take any necessary measure for maintenance and repair. In this paper proposes online monitoring system using the wireless communications for the urban rail transit. This system is constructed various departments; such as sensor, measurement, data communication, host computer, and power departments. It is designed to collect and save AI (Analog Input) information of the power facilities, and to analyze and display them. As a result, it is possible to prevent from any unexpected power cuts and monitor my abnormalities in real time, and to collect accumulated data for creating a better management system.

  • These days, corrosion condition of a underground objects is measured by the electric potential between the subject and ground. But this method is implemented by means of manual work with analog voltmeter, which is uneconomic and inefficient. So, We developed real-time On-Line cathodic protection monitoring system that is able to detect corrosion potential conditions of metal objects or various steel structures in the ground continuously, display them with the graphic screen, construct a database, and analyze them simultaneously. Since the data of corrosion and corrosion protection of all underground objects is processed automatically, not manually in this system, It is possible to reduce the manipulated error, and perform precise safety management, maintenance and inspection. As as result, this system can not only guarantee long-life operation, reduction of manpower and cost, but prevent large accidents in advance.
