A novel design process of a parallel multi-flow type air-cooled condenser of a dual-loop waste heat recovery system with Rankine steam cycles for improving the fuel efficiency of gasoline automobiles has been investigated focusing on reduction of the pressure drop inside the micro-tubes. The low temperature condenser plays a role to dissipate heat from the system by condensing the low temperature loop working fluid sufficiently. However, the refrigerant has low evaporation temperature enough to recover the waste from engine coolant of about $100^{\circ}C$ but has small saturation enthalpy so that excessive mass flow rate of the LT working fluid, e.g., over 150 g/s, causes enormously large pressure drop of the working fluid to maintain the heat dissipation performance of more than 20 kW. This paper has dealt with the scheme to design the low temperature condenser that has reduced pressure drop while ensuring the required thermal performance. The number of pass, the arrangement of the tubes of each pass, and the positions of the inlet and outlet ports on the header are most critical parameters affecting the flow uniformity through all the tubes of the condenser. For the purpose of the performance predictions and the parametric study for the LT condenser, we have developed a 1-dimensional user-friendly performance prediction program that calculates feasibly the phase change of the working fluid in the tubes. An example is presented through the proposed design process and compared with an experiment.
The purpose of the study is to propose the concrete and realistic alternative measures for $CO_2$ emission reduction on commercial sector. To achieve the purpose, this study adopted AIM/KOREA simulation model modified from AIM(Asia-Pacific Integrated Model) originally developed by Japan National Environmental Research Institute. The results of simulation demonstrate that the $CO_2$ emission from the commercial sector in 1995 was estimated 864 million TC(tons of carbon); however, according to the base scenario, $CO_2$ emission in 2020 is expected to be increased to 1,872 million TC, which is 2.17 times greater than that in 1995. In order to mitigate the ever-increasing $CO_2$ emission, the results of AIM/KOREA simulations under various scenarios showed that the 30-thousand-won carbon tax scenario does not successfully motivate the selection of advanced technology; however, with the 300-thousand-won carbon tax, a substantial amount of $CO_2$ emission reduction by 1.69 million TC from the BaU((Business-as-Usual)scenario is expected to be achieved by year 2020. Such substantial reduction of $CO_2$ emission under the 300-thoudsand-won carbon tax scenario is due to the introduction of advanced technology, such as use of condensing boilers, forced by heavier carbon tax. Under the scenario that presumes the maximum introduction of gas-burning industrial appliances, an 2.66 million TC of $CO_2$ reduction was expected. The results of this study suggest that the $CO_2$ emission reduction measures can be interpreted in many different views. However, if people and industries are fully aware of the economic benefit of energy saving, a certain level of $CO_2$ reduction by a successful introduction of advanced energy saving technology appears to be achieved without carbon tax or subsidies.

A computer program that simulates electric utility steam condensers was developed, and used to investigate the effects of enhanced tubes in steam condensers. The replacement of smooth tubes with enhanced tubes reduces the steam condensing temperature, and increases the efficiency of the electric utility. Therefore, a significant amount of power may be reserved without any modification of the utility. Three enhanced tubes, corrugated, low fin with internal ribs, and low fin with internal 3-D roughness, were considered. The results showed that there is an optimal internal roughness height. Low fin tubes with a 3-D roughness were superior to the other enhanced geometries. This was attributed to longitudinal vortices generated between the circumferential dimples. An additional 0.5 MW~1.3 MW was possible when smooth tubes were replaced with enhanced tubes in the 600 MW electric utility condenser. The additional power increased with increasing coolant temperature. More investigations on fouling, corrosion, and mechanical properties will be necessary for actual applications of enhanced tubes in electric utility condensers.
The Korean nuclear industry developed the SPACE (Safety and Performance Analysis Code for nuclear power plants) code and this code adpots two-phase flows, two-fluid, three-field models which are comprised of gas, continuous liquid and droplet fields and has a capability to simulate three-dimensional model. According to the revised law by the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) in Korea, the multiple failure accidents that must be considered for accident management plan of nuclear power plant was determined based on the lessons learned from the Fukushima accident. Generally, to improve the reliability of the calculation results of a safety analysis code, verification work for separate and integral effect experiments is required. In this reason, the goal of this work is to verify calculation capability of SPACE code for multiple failure accident. For this purpose, it was selected the experiment which was conducted to simulate a Multiple Steam Generator Tube Rupture(MSGTR) accident with Passive Auxiliary Feedwater System(PAFS) operation by Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and focused that the comparison between the experiment results and code calculation results to verify the performance of the SPACE code. The MSGR accident has a unique feature of the penetration of the barrier between the Reactor Coolant System (RCS) and the secondary system resulting from multiple failure of steam generator U-tubes. The PAFS is one of the advanced safety features with passive cooling system to replace a conventional active auxiliary feedwater system. This system is passively capable of condensing steam generated in steam generator and feeding the condensed water to the steam generator by gravity. As the results of overall system transient response using SPACE code showed similar trends with the experimental results such as the system pressure, mass flow rate, and collapsed water level in component. In conclusion, it could be concluded that the SPACE code has sufficient capability to simulate a MSGTR accident.

In this paper, the performance characteristics of heat pump system using a new refrigerant subcooling system designed for the study, are introduced. The new heat pump system have the ice storage tank at the outlet of condenser. The experimental apparatus is a well-instrumented water/water heat pump which consisted of working fluid loop, coolant loop, and ice storage tank. The experiment parameters of subcooling ranged as the evaporating temperature from $-5^{\circ}C$ to $8^{\circ}C$, the condensing temperature from $30^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$. The test of the ice storage was carried out at evaporating temperature of $-10^{\circ}C$ and the ice storage mode is Ice-On-Coil type. The working fluid was R-22 and the storage materials were city-water. The test results obtained were as follows; The refrigerant mass flow rate and compressor shaft power were unchanged by the degrees of subcooling, that is, they were independent of degrees of subcooling. The cooling capacity of the new heat pump system increase as the evaporating temperature and subcooling degrees increase and is higher by $25{\sim}30%$, compared to the normal heat pump system. The COP of the new heat pump system increases as the degrees of subcooling and evaporating temperature increase and is higher by 28% than that of the normal heat pump system.
Soot particles emitted from combustion processes are often coated by non-absorbing organic materials, which enhance the global warming effect of soot particles. It is of importance to study the condensation characteristics of soot particles experimentally and theoretically to reduce the uncertainty of the climate impact of soot particles. In this study, the condensational growth of soot particles in a tubular coater was modeled by a one-dimensional (1D) plug flow model and a two-dimensional (2D) laminar flow model. The effects of 2D heat and mass transports on the predicted particle growth were investigated. The temperature and coating material vapor concentration distributions in radial direction, which the 1D model could not accounted for, affected substantially the particle growth in the coater. Under the simulated conditions, the differences between the temperatures and vapor concentrations near the wall and at the tube center were large. The neglect of these variations by the 1D model resulted in a large error in modeling the mass transfer and aerosol dynamics occurring in the coater. The 1D model predicted the average temperature and vapor concentration quite accurately but overestimated the average diameter of the growing particles considerably. At the outermost grid, at which condensation begins earliest due to the lowest temperature and saturation vapor concentration, condensing vapor was exhausted rapidly because of the competition between condensations on the wall and on the particle surface, decreasing the growth rate. At the center of the tube, on the other hand, the growth rate was low due to high temperature and saturation vapor concentration. The effects of Brownian diffusion and thermophoresis were not high enough to transport the coating material vapor quickly from the tube center to the wall. The 1D model based on perfect radial mixing could not take into account this phenomenon, resulting in a much higher growth rate than what the 2D model predicted. The result of this study indicates that contrary to a previous report for a thermodenuder, 2D heat and mass transports must be taken into account to model accurately the condensational particle growth in a coater.
Allogeneic bone grafting has recently been used in oral and maxillofacial regions to restore the cosmetic and functional problem. There are several types of allogeneic bone grafts ; bone powder, bone chips, bone blocks. Empirically, it is thought to be better to combine the allogeneic bone chips to any type of tissue adhesive not to displace during packing and condensing. But, there are no reports about using tissue adhesive in allogeneic bone grafting. This experimental study is designed to investigate the effect of the fibrin adhesive on bone healing process after demineralized allogeneic bone grafting in 60 rats. In control groups (30 rats), routine demineralized allogeneic bone grafting were done in 7 ${\times}$ 7mm calvarial bone defects which were drilled intentioally. And we used the fibrin adhesive for holding the bone particle in experimental groups (30 rats). Each experimental specimen was sacrified at 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks postoperatively The results were as follows : 1. The degree of inflammatory cell infiltrations were more prominent in experimental than in control groups till 2 weeks. 2. Early fibroblast proliferation and new capillary proliferation were uncorporated around graft sites in the experimental groups later than in control groups at early stages. 3. Osteoblastic activity in control group was more prominent at 2 weeks. 4. Osteoblastic activity in experimental groups was more prominent than in control group till 4 weeks. 5. New bone formation was more in control group than experimental group till 3 weeks, but similar appearance after that time. As above results, initial bone healing within 2 weeks were more processed in without adhesive group than with adhesive group. But above 4 weeks; similar bone healing were observed.
This study aimed to explore the clinical, radiological, and pathological characteristics of intraocular cysticercosis due to Taenia solium metacestode infection. Total 8 patients diagnosed with intraocular cysticercosis at the Red Cross Hospital of Yunnan Province, China were examined retrospectively. Patients with clear dioptic media had undergone fundus chromophotography. All patients underwent B ultrasonography of the ocular region (CT) successive scanning of the orbit and cerebral tissues. Parasites were extracted surgically and then examined pathologically. The fundus chromophotography showed a white and condensing scolex package in the vesicle. The B ultrasonic examination showed a vesicle-like echogenic mass in the vitreous chamber, in which the high-level echo spot was the cysticercus scolex. The pathological examinations showed that the vesicle wall exhibited hyaline degeneration, inflammatory cell infiltration, neuroglial fiber, and glial cell proliferation layers from the inside to the outside. The scolex is round and is composed of the outer tissue (the body wall) and the inner furrow tissue; these tissues migrated together. Primordially differentiated sucking discs were found in one case, but no hooklets were found. The inner scolex tissue was folded like a paper flower. The severity of intraocular disease is closely correlated with the pathophysiological processes of the cysticercus worm. Pathological examination of the intraocular lesions can help to evaluate the course of the disease as well as to provide a scientific basis for effective antiparasitic medication.

Heat transfer and pressure drop measurements are made on low integral-fin tubes in turbulent water flow condition. The integral-fin tubes investigated in this paper are nominally 19mm in diameter. Eight tubes have been used with trapezoidally shaped integral-fins having fin density from 748 to 1654 fpm and 10, 30 grooves. Plain tube having same diameter as finned tube is also tested for comparison. Experiments are carried out using R-11 as working fluid. The refrigerant condensates at a saturation state of $30^{\circ}C$ on the outside tube surface cooled by coolant. The amount of noncondensable gases present in the test loop is reduced to a negligible value by repeated purging. For a given heat input to the boiler and given cooling water flow rate, all test data are taken on steady state. The heat transfer loop is used for testing single long tubes and cooling water is pumped from a storage tank through filters and flowmeters to the horizontal test section where it is heated by steam condensing on the outside of the tube. The pressure drop across the test section is measured by means of pressure gauge and manometer. Each tube tested is cleaned with sodium dichromate pickling solution and well rinsed with water prior to installation in the test section. The results obtained in this study is as follows : 1. Based on inside diameter and nominal inside area, heat transfer of finned tube is enhanced up to 4 times as that of a plain tube at constant Reynolds number and up to 2 times at constant pumping power. 2. Friction factors are up to 1.6~2.1 times those of plain tube. 3. At a given Reynolds number, Nusselt number decrease with increasing pitch to diameter. 4. The constant pumping power ratio for low integral-fin tubes increase directly with the effective area to the nominal area ratio, and with the effective area diameter ratio.

A field test of a 70 kW heat pump system with flue gas heat recovery was performed by an experiment at the Korea Institute of Energy Research. The flue gas is exhausted from a 320 RT absorption chiller-heater in the heating season. Using this flue gas, source water of the heat pump is heated by a condensed-type heat exchanger in the chimney. The operating characteristics of the heat recovery heat pump system were analyzed. Based on the results of the experiments, operating maps were obtained, and an optimum operating range is suggested, in which the return and heat source water temperature are $51^{\circ}C$ and $31^{\circ}C$, respectively. Additionally, economic analysis of this system was conducted and about 50% energy cost savings can be expected in the heating season.
