사출제품 및 금형의 통합적 설계지원을 위한 지식형 CAD 시스템 (A Knowledge-based CAD System for product and Mold Design in Injection Molding)

  • The design of injection molded polymeric parts has been done empirically, since it requires profound knowledge about the moldability and causal effects on the properties of the part, which are not available to designers through current CAD systems. An interactive computer-based design system is developed in order to realize the concept of rational design for the productivity and quality of mold making. The knowledge-based CAD system is constructed by adding the knowledge -base module for mold feature synthesis and appropriate CAE programs for mold design analysis in order to provide designers, at the initial design stage, with comprehensive process knowledge for feature synthesis, performance analysis and feature-based geometric modeling. A knowledge-based CAD system is a new tool which enables the concurrent design with integrated and balanced design decisions at the initial design stage of injection molding.

  • In order to provide economic high-quality products to customers in a timely manner, companies have tried much effort to decrease the time period of engineering design and information management. As a part of this effort, we have developed the Drawing Information Management System(DIMS) based ofn GT(Group Technology) that could decrease design processing time by speedy and rational management of design processes. The characteristics of DIMS are as follows: First, the concept of Concurrent Engineering was applied to DIMS. Through LAN, reviewers are able to attach comments to dlectronic documents by anno- tation functions called Mark-up. The reviewer annotations are collected and combind with the original document to revise the documents. Second, we have developed a Classification and Coding(C&C) system suitable for electronic component parts bassed on GT(Group Technology). The C&C system makes both parts and drawing with similar characteriscs into families and helps users search existing documents or create new drawings promptly. Finally, DIMS provides the Engineering BOM(Bill of Material) using the concept of Family BOM based on model options.

Optimizing Concurrent Spare Parts Inventory Levels for Warships Under Dynamic Conditions

  • The inventory level of concurrent spare parts (CSP) has a significant impact on the availability of a weapon system. A failure rate function might be of particular importance in deciding the CSP inventory level. We developed a CSP optimization model which provides a compromise between purchase costs and shortage costs on the basis of the Weibull and the exponential failure rate functions, assuming that a failure occurs according to the (non-) homogeneous Poisson process. Computational experiments using the data obtained from the Korean Navy identified that, throughout the initial provisioning period, the optimization model using the exponential failure rate tended to overestimate the optimal CSP level, leading to higher purchase costs than the one using the Weibull failure rate. A Pareto optimality was conducted to find an optimal combination of these two failure rate functions as input parameters to the model, and this provides a practical solution for logistics managers.

  • Recently, it has been widely conceived that Concurrent Enginering (CE) can provide a competitive edge for companies that have confronted with rapidly changing market requirements, such as shortening of product life-cycles, high quality and low cost products, diversity of customer demand, and so on. CE is generally recognized as a practice to bridge the gap between designing a product and other various life-cycle activities, such as manufacturing, assembly, testing, and maintenance, at an early stage of design. In this paper the concepts of CE is first overviewed, and many of its supporting tools are discussed. It is then proposed an architecture of a CE support system that can provide a unifying view of the tools. Finally, a case that has successfully implemented the concepts is presented.

국내 자동차산업에서 제품데이터품질에 대한 현황 조사 (Investigation of Product Data Quality in the Korean Automotive Industry)

  • Product data quality (PDQ) is a real and significant issue in today's manufacturing environment. In the Korean automotive industry, much of the design work takes place with the support of software tools, such as CAD systems. Although many designers frequently encounter quality problems regarding product data, there is no investigation into the present state of CAD usage and PDQ activities before. The Korean automotive industry is responsible for about 11.1 percent of the total value of manufactured goods in Korea and 7.9 percent of employment in manufacturing. A study performed by the Research Triangle Institute showed that imperfect interoperability imposes at least $\$1$ billion per year on the members of the U.S. automotive supply chain. The trends toward concurrent engineering and out-sourcing have elevated the importance of high-quality product data and efficient product data exchange. This paper shows the results from a survey of PDQ conducted on seven 1st tiers among members of the Korean automotive supply chain.

  • Concurrent Engineering(CE) can provide a competitive edge for companies that have confronted with rapidly changing market requirements, such as shortening of product life cycles, high quality, low cost, diversity of customer demand, and so on. We construct a prototype of integrated information system to support a new product development process by CE concept. This integrated information system can be useful for considering concurrently all of the aspect in the product design process. In this system, an Engineering Database is constructed for gathering data of four departments; i.e. marketing, production, quality control and design department. Also DFM(Design For Manufacturability) is applied for analysis of product design.

  • With the advances in concurrent engineering, schedulability has become an important design issue in machine loading and routing procedure. In this paper, four rules to improve schedulability of loading and routing are formulated as a mixed-integer programming model based on machine, routing and tool flexibilities. In this model, these rules are represented as an objective function or constraints. The impact of rules on the quality of schedules for the result of loading and routing is measured with makespan, throughput and average machine utilization.

A Simulation Method For Virtual Situations Through Seamless Integration Of Independent Events Via Autonomous And Independent Agents

  • The extent and depth of the event plan determines the scope of pedagogical experience in situations and consequently the quality of immersive learning based on our simulated world. In contrast to planning in conventional narrative-based systems mainly pursuing dramatic interests, planning in virtual world-based pedagogical systems strive to provide realistic experiences in immersed situations. Instead of story plot comprising predetermined situations, our inter-event planning method aims at simulating diverse situations that each involve multiple events coupled via their associated agents' conditions and meaningful associations between events occurring in a background world. The specific techniques to realize our planning method include, two-phase planning based on inter-event search and intra-event decomposition (down to the animated action level); autonomous and independent agents to behave proactively with their own belief and planning capability; full-blown background world to be used as the comprehensive stage for all events to occur in; coupling events via realistic association types including deontic associations as well as conventional causality; separation of agents from event roles; temporal scheduling; and parallel and concurrent event progression mechanism. Combining all these techniques, diverse exogenous events can be derived and seamlessly (i.e., semantically meaningfully) integrated with the original event to form a wide scope of situations providing chances of abundant pedagogical experiences. For effective implementation of plan execution, we devise an execution scheme based on multiple priority queues, particularly to realize concurrent progression of many simultaneous events to simulate its corresponding reality. Specific execution mechanisms include modeling an action in terms of its component motions, adjustability of priority for agent across different events, and concurrent and parallel execution method for multiple actions and its expansion for multiple events.

Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) - the science and technology of measurements without affecting the Properties and performance of the test object is an interdisciplinary domain area of high significance far ensuring quality, productivity and safety thus enabling better qualify of lift to the inhabitants on this planet. The test object can be material, component, plant, earth, environment etc. Total qualify management, total productivity management, concurrent engineering and many other essential ingredients of success in plant engineering and manufacturing industry are dependent on NDE far success and good returns on investments.

제품 디자인의 파급효과와 품질경쟁력의 결정요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on a Effect of Product Design and a Primary factor of Qualify Competitiveness)

  • 본 연구의 분석목표는 제품 디자인의 결정요인을 추정하고 품질경쟁력, 제품 신뢰성, 고객충성에 대한 제품 디자인의 파급효과를 실증적으로 분석함으로써 디자인 경영이론에 유용한 시사점을 도출하는 것이다. 상기한 실증적 분석을 위하여, 한국 제조업 부문의 400개 표본기업에 대한 설문조사(2003년 8월${\sim}$10월)를 통하여 관련 측정변수들을 추출하였다. 본 연구의 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제품 디자인의 유의적 결정요인은 연구개발력 수준, 연구개발투자 수준, 혁신활동 수준(5S, TQM, 6Sigma 운동, QC 등)으로 추정되었다. 이 분석결과는 제품 디자인과 제품 개발을 동시적 엔지니어링(CE: concurrent engineering) 개념으로 파악하고 이들의 성과를 평가하기 위한 시스템관련 원리(system-related principle)와 행렬관련 원리(matrix-related principle)로써 서술한 Pawar and Driva(1999)를 실증적으로 뒷받침한다. 둘째, 제품 디자인의 파급효과는 제품 디자인${\rightarrow}$품질경쟁력${\rightarrow}$고객만족${\rightarrow}$고객충성의 인과관계로 나타나는 것으로 추정되었다. 즉, 제품 디자인은 고객만족을 직접적으로 유발하는 것이 아니라 품질경쟁력을 경유하여 간접적으로 고객만족을 유도한다는 것이다. 이 분석결과는 디자인 경영이 통합된 제품 품질의 중요한 결정인자라고 분석한 Flynn et al(1994), Ahire et al.(1996), Ahire and Dreyfus(2000) 등을 실증적으로 뒷받침한다. 일반적으로 제품 디자인의 접근방법으로써 3가지 즉 (1) 제품 개발자(엔지니어, 기술개발담당자, 품질관리팀)를 중심으로 하는 QFD(quality function development)의 접근방법, (2) 마케팅 담당자를 중심으로 하는 컨조인트 분석(conjoint analysis), (3) 상기의 2가지 접근방법의 상호보완적 및 동시적 결합 및 피드백의 주장(Pullman, Moore and Wardell, 2002)을 들 수 있다. 그러나 본 연구의 실증적 분석결과에는 품질경쟁력이 제품 디자인과 고객만족사이에 교량적 역할을 담당한다. 이 분석결과는 제품 디자인에 대한 품질경쟁력의 2가지 접근방법(QFD의 접근방법과 컨조인트 분석)의 조화를 이룰 수 있는 이론적 기초가 될 수 있다. 즉, 제품디자인의 결정요인 분석결과는 QFD의 접근방법에, 제품 디자인 파급효과 분석결과는 컨조인트 분석에 각각 보완적 기여를 할 수 있다. 이와 동시에, 실증적 분석결과는 Ettlie(1997)의 디자인 통합(DI) 이론에 대한 실증적 기반을 제공할 수 있다. 마지막으로, 성공적인 디자인 경영(DM)을 위해서는 최고 경영자의 지원뿐만 아니라 부처 간 의사소통의 장애요인을 제거하고 CFT(cross-functional team)를 운영함으로써 동시적 엔지니어링(CE) 및 제품 및 공정 디자인의 개발이 제품 개발의 속도를 가속화하고 디자인 품질을 높이며 시장 성공을 보증할 수 있도록 해야 한다.
