  • This study is to investigate experimentally residual strength properties of the high strength concrete containing the hybrid of nylon and polypropylene fiber at elevated temperature. Test results showed that specimens heated up to $300^{\circ}C$ exhibited similar strength properties to the one at room temperature. This result is significantly different from previous studies. but specimens heated over $400^{\circ}C$ showed dramatic decrease indicating similar tendency. For the residual strength properties, one at $300^{\circ}C$ even increased 10%, which is also different from previous studies, but it significantly decreased in $400^{\circ}C$ as widely expected. Melted pores by organic fibers in concrete specimens was observed with FE-SEM. For the density of concrete in elevated temperature, internal system in $200^{\circ}C$ had even denser than in $20^{\circ}C$, but was collapsed in $400^{\circ}C$.

  • Fibers are increasingly being used for the reinforcement of cementitious matrix to enhance the toughness and energy absorption capacity and to reduce the cracking sensitivity of the matrix. In the past decade, high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite(HPFRCC) have evolved with intensified research. HPFRCC for structural applications has been developed under the performance driven design approach. It is the aim of this study to obtain development of hybrid-HPFRCC using polypropylene fibers and polyethylene fibers. It was targeted the requirement of economical mixing and application to structure member.

  • This study evaluated spalling and internal temperature distribution after elevated temperatures test for high strength concrete ($f_{ck}=60\;MPa$) column member with various polypropylene fiber volume fractions. The ISO-834 time-temperature curve was used for measurement of fire resistance properties. As the result of test, average internal temperature results indicated to low temperature in increased polypropylene fiber volume fraction. But, the highest internal temperature results show that does not difference in proportion of polypropylene fiber volume fractions.

  • This study evaluated fire resistance performance for hybrid (polypropylene+steel) fiber reinforced high strength concrete column. Full-size columns were constructed and tested with or without fibers using ISO-834 fire curve. As the result of test, Control specimen occurred serious spalling and indicated rapidly internal temperature increasing. Specimen with polypropylene fiber occurred not spalling but steady internal temperature increasing. Specimen with hybrid fiber occurred not spalling as well as does not propagated temperature distribution. Therefore, hybrid fiber reinforced column specimen indicated a good fire resistance performance than other cases.

  • In this paper, by using steel fiber, polypropylene fiber and these two hybrid fibers, the fire resistance performance and explosive properties of High Strength Concrete (HSC) with specified compressive strength of 40MPa are discussed. The paper also examines the bending resistance of the beam and the shearing resistance properties of non-reinforced HSC beam. This research helps to clarify the fire resistance of fiber HSC and its anti-explosion methods. The test results show that crack generation, explosion and carbonization can be effectively restrained when HSC is mixed with hybrid fibers under high temperature; furthermore, the maximum internal force and ductility are increased and the initial cracking can be restrained in the mechanical test.

  • This study evaluated the effect of amorphous steel fibers on the spalling characteristics of high-strength concrete. with mix proportions of polypropylene (PP) fibers of 0.15% by concrete volume, and proportions of amorphous steel fibers of 0.3% and 0.5% by concrete volume. In the range of 0.3 vol% of amorphous steel fiber, the effect of suppression of the spalling and the prevention of degradation of strength was shown, but it was evaluated to be ineffective in the suppression of the spalling due to interferences in formation of pore network in the range of 0.5 vol.%.

  • The purpose of this study was to enhance bond performance between recycled PET (polyethylene telephthalat) fiber and cement composites through hydrophilic treatment using maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene(mPP). The mPP with various concentration of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% to determine effect on bond behavior of recycled PET fiber were applied as experimental variables. Dog bone shaped specimens according to JCI SF-8 was applied to evaluate the bond strength and pullout energy. The results showed increased bond strength and pullout energy as concentration of mPP. Concentration of 15% mPP showed the most effective results while 20% showed reduced performance results. Because 15% mPP ensures perfect coating while 20% makes thick coating area that resulted in crack propagation and consequent separation of PET fiber and coated area during pullout load occurred. Enhancement mechanism of bond performance of recycled PET fiber and cement composites with each concentration of mPP could be conformed through investigation of microstructure of fiber surface.

  • The fire performance of RC slabs with half-depth precast panel after exposure to the ISO-834 fire standard without loading has been experimentally investigated. During heating, according to the ISO 834 fire curve, concrete spalling was observed for concrete without PP(polypropylene) fibers. No spalling occurred when heating concrete containing PP fibers. The maximum temperature of RC slabs with PP fibers with half-depth precast panel was lower than that of concrete without PP fibers. The ultimate load after cooling of the RC slabs that were not loaded during the furnace tests was evaluated by means of 3 points bending tests. The ultimate load of the RC slabs without PP fibers showed a considerable reduction (around 32.5%) of the ultimate load after cooling if compared with of RC slabs with PP fibers. The ultimate load of the RC slabs with half-depth precast panel with PP fibers is higher than that of a full-depth RC slabs with PP fibers. Also, the addition of PP fibers and the use of half-depth precast panel improve fire resistance.

  • The synthetic fibers including Polyvinyl alcohol and Polyethylene fibers have been successfully used in the manufacture of high ductile fiber reinforced cementitious composites. Polypropylene (PP) fiber has also been used in composites, not for the purpose of achieving a high level of tensile ductility but to improve the fire resistance performance of concrete exposed to high temperatures. This paper discusses the method for enhancing the performance of composites supplemented with PP fiber. Five types of mixture proportions were designed with high volume fly ash for testing the performance of composites. Type I cement and fly ash F were used as binding materials. The water-to-binder ratio was 0.23~0.25, and the amount of PP fiber used was 2 vol%. Polystyrene bead were also used to increase the tensile ductility of composites. A series of experiments including slump, density, compression and uniaxial tension tests were performed to evaluate the performance of cementitious composites supplemented with PP fiber. From the test results, it was exhibited that the performance of composites supplemented with PP fiber can be enhanced by adopting the mechanics and statistics theory.

  • Experimental results on lap splice performance of high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite(HPFRCC) with fiber types under repeated loading are reported. Fiber types were polypropylene(PP), polyethylene(PE) and hybrid fiber[polyethylene fiber+steel cord(PE+SC)]. The development length($l_d$) was calculated according to the relevant ACI code requirements for reinforcing bars in concrete. The current experimental results demonstrated clearly that the use of fibers in cementitious matrixes increases significantly the splice strength of reinforcing bars in tension. Also, the presence of fibers increased the number of cracks formed around the spliced bars.
