Lightweight concrete is known for its advantage of reducing the self-weight of the structures, reducing the areas of sectional members as well as making the construction convenient. Thus the construction cost can be saved when applied to structures such as long-span bridge and high rise buildings. However, the lightweight concrete requires specific mix design method that is quite different from the typical concrete, since using the typical mix method would give rise the material segregation as well as lower the strength by the reduced weight of the aggregate. In order to avoid such problems, it is recommended to apply the mix design method of self-compacting concrete for the lightweight concrete. Experimental tests were performed as such compressive strength, dry shrinkage and carbonation of high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete.

Pervious concrete is a tailored-property concrete with high water permeability which allow the passage of water to flow through easily through the existing interconnected large pore structure. This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation into the development of pervious concrete with reduced cement content and recycled concrete aggregate for sustainable permeable pavement construction. High fineness ground granulated blast furnace slag was used to replace up to 70 % cement by weight. The properties of the pervious concrete were evaluated by determining the compressive strength at 7 and 28 days, void content and water permeability under falling head. The compressive strength of pervious concrete increased with a reduction in the maximum aggregate size from 20 to 13 mm. The relationship between 28-day compressive strength and porosity for pervious concrete was adversely affected by the use of recycled concrete aggregate instead of natural aggregate. However, the binder materials type, age, aggregate size and test specimen shape had marginal effect on the strength-porosity relationship. The results also showed that the water permeability of pervious concrete is primarily influenced by the porosity and not affected by the use of recycled concrete aggregate in place of natural aggregate. The empirical inter-relationships developed among porosity, compressive strength and water permeability could be used in the mix design of pervious concrete with either natural or recycled concrete aggregates to meet the specification requirements of compressive strength and water permeability.

This is the study on the performance of workability and engneering properties of flowing concrete using the superplasticizers, which are being used for control of the consistency of fresh concrete without modifying the properties of the hardened concrete and for production of high quality concrete at a low water-cement ratio. It is the aim of this study to analyze and investigate workability and engineering properties of flowing concrete according to the addition rate in poor and rich mix proportions of base concrete. Base on this fundamental investigation for the development of flowing concrete mix design, it could be drawn that the workability and engineering properties of flowing concreteare influenced greatly by mix proportion and dosage of superplasticizers.

This paper presents a systematic approach for estimating material performance and designing mix proportion of concrete based on an application of Bayesian method in the form of satisfaction curves. The one-parameter satisfaction curve represents a satisfaction probability of a concrete performance criterion as a function of concrete material parameter. An analysis method to combine multiple satisfaction curves to form one unique satisfaction curve that can relate the performance of concrete to a single evaluating value called Goodness value is proposed. A proposed PBMD procedure and examples of application of the PBMD method for concrete mix proportion design are carried out to verify the validity of the proposed method. Finally, the comparison between the expected performance results of a concrete mix proportion designed using PBMD to the ACI estimation equation calculated results are performed to check the applicability of the method to actual construction.

The objective of this study the mechanical characteristics of prefoamed lightweight foamed concrete using the mineral foam agent which has high lightness, and strength. The compressive strength of lightweight foamed concrete using mineral foam agent are about 2 times degree high those the of lightweight foamed concrete using vegetable foam agent. Lightweight foamed concrete was able to obtain the result of 50kg/㎠ or more compressive strength, when was unit weight 0.8t/㎡. In the case of the same unit weight of concrete, it is influenced by w/c of foam agent ratio. The paper present extensive data on characteristics of compressive strength of the concrete manufatured with the different factors in mix design and also present optimum mix proportion.

Lightweight foamed concrete is a concrete which is lighter than conventional concree by
mixing ptetoamed foam in cement slurry. The objectives of this study are to develop
optimal prefoarneti lightweight foamed concrete with high lightness. high flowability and
enough strength fol special use of structural application by using the polymer foam agent.
By mixing the admixtures such as silica-fume and fly-ash and the industrial by-product
such as styrofoam for the purpose of practical use of industrial waste, lightweight foamed concrete shich has better lightness. flowability and strength than the conventional prefoamed lightweight foamed concrete is developed. This paper presents extensive data on characteristics of compressive strength and flowability of the concrete manufactured with the different factors in mix design and also presents optimum mix proportion.

In this study, different proportions of glass beads used for road marking were added into the concrete samples to reduce the temperature gradient through the concrete pavement thickness. It is well known that decreasing the temperature gradient reduces the risk of thermal cracking and increases the service life of concrete pavement. The extent of alkali-silica reaction (ASR) produced with partial replacement of fine aggregate by glass bead was investigated and compressive strength of concrete samples with different proportion of glass bead in their mix designs were measured in this study. Ideal results were obtained with less than 0.850 mm diameter size glass beads were used (19 % by total weight of aggregate) for C30/37 class concrete. Top and bottom surface temperatures of two different C30/37 strength class concrete slabs with and without glass beads were measured. It was identified that, using glass bead in concrete mix design, reduces the temperature differences between top and bottom surfaces of concrete pavement. The study presented herein provides important results on the necessity of regulating concrete road mix design specifications according to regions and climates to reduce the temperature gradient values which are very important in concrete road design.

This paper is a study about application of recently proposed Performance Based Mixture Design (PBMD) for design of high strength concrete (HSC) to obtain HSC mix proportion that satisfies required performances. The PBMD method which uses Satisfaction curve based on a Bayesian method is a performance oriented concrete mix proportion design procedure easily applicable to any condition and environment for a possible replacement to the current prescriptive design standards. Based on extensive experimental results obtained for various materials and performance parameters of HSC, the application feasibility of the developed PBMD procedure for HSC has been verified. Also, the proposed PBMD procedure has been used to perform application examples to obtain desired target performances of HSC with optimum concrete mixture proportions using locally available materials, local environmental conditions, and available concrete production technologies. The validity and precision of HSC mix proportion design obtained using the PBMD method is verified with the experimental and ACI presented results to check the feasibility for actual design usage.

The objective of this study is to optimize the use of mineral admixtures (silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag) in high-performance concrete for bridge deck overlay. For this purpose, high-performance concrete, incorporating mineral admixtures, was tested for compressive strength and permeability. The Box Behnken design was used to determine the optimum mix proportions of the mineral admixtures. The optimized mix compositions were then technically evaluated. Test results are compare with the performance specification for high performance concrete overlay on bridge deck. The optimum mix proportions were shown to possess acceptable properties. Also, it is possible to save the construction and materials costs result from a reduction In actual material cost and from the use of widely avaliable truck mixers instead of mobile mixers.
