하수관내 침전물의 황화수소가스 발생에 관한 연구 (Production of Hydrogen Sulfide Gas from Sediments in Concrete Sewer)

  • The pulverized wastes originated from kitchen garbage grinder cause an additional load in sewage treatment plant and water environment. Therefore, several problems occur in sewer, such as microbial corrosion, odor, psychoda and fly interrupting flow of sewage etc. by their precipitation with earth and sand. This study was conducted on two experiments: hydrogen sulfide gas generation from sediments in sewer and anaerobic batch test. In anaerobic batch test, gas generation was increased when organic compounds were increased in concentration. Sulfide was decreased upon decreasing in sulfate concentration. In $H_2S$ gas generation test along the depth of sediments there were two different sampling sites which are apart from about 50 cm each other in a menhole. The one has the thickness of 55 cm from the surface, the other, of 60 cm. The hydrogen sulfide gas production rates were measured based on ranges from 0 to 10 cm, 10 to 20 cm, 20 to 30 cm for two samples. The results obtained were 1.08, between 0 to 10 cm in depth for the sample thickness of 55 cm and 3.07, 5.36, $5.42{\mu}g/g-VS{\cdot}hr$ in order of depth for the sample thickness of 60 cm, respectively.

강제어초의 효율성에 관한 현장조사 (Field Investigation on the Efficiency of the Artificial Steel Reefs)

  • As part of the government's fishery resource creation policy, fishing ground creation projects have been undertaken in Korea's major seashore fishing spots since the 1970s, where artificial reefs constructed using new materials that make up for the weakness of concrete reefs have been used. In this study, the stability of these artificial reefs when acted upon by external forces, their ability to attract and gather fish, and their economic feasibility were examined. For this purpose, an experimental artificial steel reef was constructed and was installed in an area of the sea. Then the corrosion of the experimental material attached to it was investigated. The efficiency of the artificial steel reef was then verified by examining its functionality, removal, and burying, as well as the speed of insertion of living things into its structure and its ability to attract and gather fish.

A performance-based design method for chloride-induced cover cracking of RC structures

  • Chloride-induced cover cracking will aggravate the performance deterioration for RC structures under the chlorideladen environment, which may endanger the safety of structures and occupants. Traditional design method cannot ensure that a definite performance is satisfied. To overcome the defects, a study on the performance-based design method was carried out in this paper. Firstly, the limit state functions were established for the corrosion initiation and cover cracking. Thereafter, the uncertainty analysis was performed to study the effects of random factors on the time-dependent performances. Partial factor formulae were deduced through the first-order reliability method for performance verification. Finally, an illustrative example was presented and the sensitivity of cover depth to other parameters was carried out. It is found that the uncertainties of the random variables have great effects on the required cover depth. It is demonstrated that the performance-based design method can ensure that the target performance can be satisfied and support to formulate a rational maintenance and repair strategy for RC structures under the chloride environment.

  • Iron based amorphous ribbons with the nominal compositions of $(Fe_{79}C_{11}B_8Si_2)_{100-X}Cr_X$ (X = 0,2,4,6,8 at%) have been developed as reinforcements that can be applied to the concrete materials. Mechanical properties and glass forming ability of the ribbons can be enhanced by the optimum amounts of Cr additions that can also improve corrosion properties of the ribbons. Vein patterns typical of the fractured surface morphology of amorphous alloys have been observed on the surfaces of ribbons after tensile tests. It is inferred from the EDS analysis results of vein patterns that carbon segregations occur within the narrow shear band regions.

오일의 누출이 토양오염, 식생 및 지하수에 주는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of. Oil Leakage for Soil Contamination, Plants and Groundwater)

  • Our experiment investigated the degree of soil contaimination caused by oil leakage. Each soil sample was taken by boring 5, 8m below the test areas, located 5 to 30m from storage tanks at oil stations. According to the results from a series of laboratory tests(both soxhiet extract test and gas chromatograph test), Traces of a light oil were found in all samples except in Dj8, rocky soil and gasoline and petroleum were not detected. We concluded that soil contamination was caused by the corrosion of storage tanks or alternatively by oil overflow caused during the flooding of underground water seeping into the tank during heavy rain fall or the spillage caused by carelessness during lubrication. Old stations without a concrete box enclosing their metal tanks run a greater risk of oil leakage. To research the effect of oil leakage on plant growth and underground water, We examined the results of research conducted overseas. According to these results, when oil leakage occurs, plant growth is repressed and agricultural crops experience low productivity levels. Also, the contamination of underground water can be serious when oil spreads to the aquifer layer. As a result of these problems, to prevent oil leakage and minimize its contaminating effects at oil stations, it is necessary to improve facilities of storage tanks and have the monitoring system of oil leakage.

Experimental study on repair of corroded steel beam using CFRP

  • It has been reported that more than thirty five percent of steel bridges in the USA are structurally deficient because of structural degradations. The degraded structures need either full replacement or rehabilitation such that they are able to provide the required services for a longer period of time. The cost for repair in most cases is far less than the cost of replacement. Moreover, repair method generally takes less time than replacement and also reduces service interruption time. Modern advanced composites have been used in aerospace and automotive fields since World War II. In the recent past, because of the high strength-to-weight ratio and high stiffness-to-weight ratio, these composite materials have been introduced to civil engineering infrastructures primarily for repair and rehabilitation of concrete structures. However, only a few preliminary studies on repair of corroded steel structures using theses composite materials are reported in the literature available in the public domain. Thus, in this study, a series of laboratory tests was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of this repair method using carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite. The paper discusses the test method and test results obtained from these tests.

교량구조물의 받침 교체 효과 (The Effects on Structures caused by the Replacement of Bridge Bearing)

  • The effects on structures caused by the replacement of the bridge bearings are investigated in this study. The bearings of the bridge are seriously deteriorated because of the breakage of lower concrete and the corrosion of the bearing itself. Also, the negative reaction states are created at some bearings on the abutment. Then, the bridge has occurred excessive vibrations and severe noise and impact whenever heavy trucks pass the above joints. The existing bearings are replaced using the adjustable bearing. The height of the bearings is adjusted to minimize the level difference of above joint and also to induce the appropriate distribution of live loads The effects of replacing the bearings are investigated by measuring the behaviors of the bridge without and with replacing works. The results without replacing the bearing show that the distribution of displacements and stresses is distorted in comparison with the analytical results. Also the bridge without replacing the bearing shows that the impact and vibration from the heavy trucks are larger than those with replacing the bearing. Load carrying capacity of the bridge increase about 1.8 times through replacing the bearing. The above results show that the structural performance of the bridge is improved by replacing only bridge bearings.

  • In the case of the Busan North Port, where the Busan Opera House is located, it is an environment exposed to various external deterioration factors such as frequent strong winds, seawater and salty winds, and an exterior material using UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete), a highly durable exterior material as a solution to this. Has been adopted. in this study, an economical production and construction direction was reviewed by applying UHPC to the exterior panels of atypical buildings that cannot cope with GFRC, metal, and glass, which are the main exterior finishing materials applied so far. When steel fibers are used, structural performance may be better than organic fibers, but due to environmental factors in Busan, corrosion due to exposure to steel fibers or problems with safety management after construction and completion may occur. Therefore, the site used the newly developed SACF fiber. Facade design of atypical buildings, which will increase in the future, is an important part, and the scope of use of UHPC panels is expected to increase in the future as design trends and demand for high durability increase.

  • The masonry structure is constructed by cement mortar binding material of brick objects and uses reinforced hardware(connected hardware or wall tie) together when building. However, over time, the corrosion of reinforced steel and the deterioration of joint mortar as well as bricks cause the risk of collapse. In particular, when the externally decorated brick wall is installed on the concrete girder for each floor, the angle bracket is not constructed or corroded, the full-layer weight load is applied to the wall of 0.5B, which is an example of full-scale or collapse. As a result of the evaluation, it was confirmed that the performance was improved compared to the existing bracket, and we plan to carry out a real-life test and long-term performance review of the building using the bracket in the future.

광섬유 FBG센서를 이용한 원주형 구조물의 2차원 상대변위 모니터링기법 개발 (Development of a Convergence Monitoring Method for Cylindrical Structures by Optical Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor)

  • 본 연구에서는 광섬유 FBG 센서를 이용, 곡률반경을 고려한 이 방향 변위(Two-Way Displacement)를 측정하여 변형각을 환산함으로써 상대좌표를 구하는 알고리즘을 정립하였으며 이를 이용하면 작은 변형에 대해서도 매우정확하게 상대변위를 구할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이를 확인하기 위해 4.5m높이의 H형강에 고안된 이 방향 광섬유센서를 부착하여 횡 방향으로 외력을 가해서 발생한 변위를 수준측량과 일반적인 전자식 변위계로 동시에 측정하여 각각의 측정성능을 비교분석하였다. 그 결과, 광섬유센서의 분해능은 다른 센서시스템에 비해 월등하였으며 이차원 상대좌표의 측정이 가능함을 확인하였다.
