Development of Ultra-Lightweight High Strength Trench Using Lightweight Polymer Concrete

  • The ultra-lightweight high strength polymer concrete could be used for the drain structures under severe condition. In this study, materials used were unsaturated polyester resin, heavy calcium carbonate, artificial lightweight coarse aggregate and perlite. In the test results, the unit weight of the ultra-lightweight high strength polymer concrete was 946 kg f/$\textrm{m}^3$ and the compressive strength was appeared in 34.5 MPa. The compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, acid resistance and weather resistance were shown in excellently than that of the normal cement concrete. The draining trench had 1m length, 0.24 m width, 0.02 m thickness and 0.07 m height. The developed trench could be effectively used at the draining structures.

  • This study was performed to develop the lightweight polymer concrete using expanded clay and perlite to improve workability, durability and chemical resistance for bottom draining structure under severe condition. This paper was composed of two parts. One is to invest the physical and mechanical properties of lightweight polymer concrete using synthetic lightweight aggregate, the other is to the develop products for bottom draining structure. Physical and mechanical test for lightweight polymer concrete was performed unit weight, compressive and flexural strength, chemical resistance, accelerated weathering test, absorption ratio and optimum mix for lightweight polymer concrete was designed. Also, products for bottom draining structures by optimum mix of lightweight polymer concrete was made draining trench of small size.

기획특집 - 거가대교 침매터널의 설계 (Design of the Busan-Geoje Fixed Links Immersed tunnel)

  • Immersed tunnel had been a rather new term in Korea before Busan-Geoje fixed link project was started and became known through the media. Although Korean is unfamiliar with the immersed tunnel, this construction method has a long history in the world. Busan-Geoje Fixed Link immersed tunnel consist of 18 elements and each element is approximately 180m long. These tunnel elements are prefabricated of reinforced concrete in a temporary dry dock and are towed to the site and lowered into final position in a dredged trench and are placed on a screeded gravel bed directly without temporary support.

  • Use of recycled aggregates that are constituents of concrete or asphalt-based structures has become popular because the recycling is an eco-friendly way to overcome the depletion of natural aggregates. In order to adopt the recycled aggregates for backfilling a power transmission pipeline trench, their thermal resistivity should be low enough to prevent thermal runaway in the transmission system. In this study, a series of laboratory tests with QTM-500 and KD2 Pro was performed to measure the thermal resistivity of recycled aggregates prepared from various sources. Relationships between the thermal resistivity of recycled aggregates and the water content have been obtained with consideration of compaction effort. Similar to natural soils, the thermal resistivity of the recycled aggregates decreases with increasing the water content. In addition, this study compared the experimental data with conventional prediction models for the thermal resistivity in the literature, which suggests the availability of the recycled aggregates as backfill material substituting for natural aggregates when backfilling the power transmission pipeline trench.

하절기 오염 소하천 정화를 위한 생물여과조와 식생대의 Pilot Test (Pilot Test of Biofilter and Vegetation Bed for Contaminated Ditch Treatment at Summer)

  • The objective of this study is to recover the contaminated ditch by using a biofilter filled up with waste-concrete media and vegetation bed. Two systems were tested for elimination of organic compounds, turbidity, nitrogen and phosphate. System 1 is three-stage system which consisted of one biofilter and two vegetation bed, system 2 has three-stage system consisted of one biofilter, one vegetation bed (four bed), and one media trench operated in series. In system 1, HRT of biofilter was 4 hour, and Oenanthe javanica was planted in two vegetation bed. In system 2, HRT of biofilter was varied 2 hours and Persicaria chinensis was planted on the top of the biofilter. And Oenanthe javanica, Hydrocharis asiatica, Salvinia natans were planted in four bed of a vegetation bed and the second vegetation bed of system 1 was rebuilt to a media trench bed. The elimination rate of BOD and turbidity was over 90% in both systems. The mean elimination rates 40~50%(system 1), 30~40%(system 2) for T-N and 40~50% (system 1), 30~40%(system 2)for T-P. T-N and T-P elimination performance of system 1 was a little higher(10%) than that of system 2. Results showed that vegetation bed are not efficient in reducing T-N and T-P. It was considered that HRT of vegetation bed of both systems was much lower(1~2hr) than that of conventional system(5~20days).

  • It is well known that tire tread pattern has much influence on the tire pattern noise. The paper describes the method of pattern noise reduction by using the pitch sequence, both on the smooth asphalt roads and on the trenched concrete roads. The noise of tire is classified as either airborne or structure borne noise. Pattern noise through the airborne is considered as a major noise source at high speeds. As block impacting and air pumping by tread patterns are major noise source, tire pattern noise can be greatly influenced by optimal pitch sequence. The goal of this paper is to provide tire engineers with pitch sequence to reduce pattern noise effectively.

Reduction of Railway-induced Vibration using In-filled Trenches with Pipes

  • Reduction in railway-induced vibrations in urban areas is a very challenging task in railway transportation. Many mitigation measures can be considered and applied. Among these, a little attention has been paid to trenches. In this study, a numerical investigation on the effectiveness of in-filled trenches with pipes in reducing railway vibrations due to passing trains is presented. Particularly, a series of two-dimensional dynamic analysis was performed to model the behavior of ballasted railway track under harmonic load with ABAQUS software as a Finite Element method. In so doing, two types of in-filled trenches with pipes with steel and concrete materials have been investigated in this paper. In addition, effectiveness of pipes made of steel and concrete, filled with loose sand and clay in railway-induced vibration reduction has been assessed. The results point out that using in-filled trench with pipes does not effective a lot on railway-induced vibration reduction in comparison to other railway-induced vibration reduction methods. However, in-filled trenches with steel pipes are much more effective than in-filled trenches with concrete pipes. Moreover, filling pipes with loose sand and clay does not have any effect on vibration reduction efficiency of these in-filled trenches.

저토피부 암거상부 포장의 도상피해 예방을 위한 단명설계 (A design guide to minimize frost heave in unbound pavement layers over box culverts)

  • 지난 2005년 12월 호남지역에 내린 폭설과 연이은 한파로 서해안고속도로와 호남고속도로에 많은 피해가 보고되었다. 특히 2.0m 이하의 저토피고를 갖는 통로 암거 상부의 포장에 최대 6.0cm 높이의 노면 융기와 횡방향 균열이 발생하였다. 이는 포장의 수명단축 및 공용성 저하, 교통사고 발생 등에 영향을 미치기 때문에 시급한 대책마련이 요구되었다. 현장 조사 결과 단기간에 증가한 침투수가 노상과 노체에 함유된 세립분의 영향으로 포장 내부의 배수가 지연되고 저온에서 발생한 동상이 포장 파손의 일차적인 원인으로 지적되었다. 최근 한국도로공사는 도로교통기술원과 공동연구를 통해서 신설되는 암거상부 포장에 대한 새로운 설계안을 제시하였다. 본 설계안은 암거 상단부에 맹암거를 설치하여 침투수의 원활한 배수를 유도하고 간극수압의 저감을 통해 포장하부의 동상을 예방하고자 한다. 본 논문에서는 위의 설계법 개발을 위해서 수행한 실험과 수치해석결과를 다루고 있다. 현장에서 채취한 지반시료에 대한 점토함유량 분석을 실시하고 2차원 유한요소해석을 실시하여 골재 입경에 따른 침투류의 배수특성을 조사하였다. 저토피고(2.0m 이하) 암거 상부 포장에 적용될 맹암거의 규격은 침투류 해석결과와 현장 시공성을 고려하여 폭과 높이를 각각 400mm, 800mm로 결정하였다.

폐플라스틱 재활용 폴리머콘크리트의 강도와 응력-변형률 특성 (Properties of Strength and Stress-Strain of Recycled-Plastic Polymer Concrete)

  • 폴리머콘크리트는 시멘트 콘크리트에 비해 강도와 내구적 성능 등 여러면에 있어 우수하여 건설현장에서의 벽체용 패널, 통신용 맨흘, 기계설비의 기초, 지하연결박스 등 다양한 용도로 개발되고 사용되어지고 있다. 그러나 폴리머콘크리트는 그 결합재로 쓰이고 있는 수지의 비용이 높아 경제적인 면에서 불리하여 기존 수지를 대체할 수 있는 결합재에 관한 연구가 필요하다. 여기서, PET를 재활용한 폴리머콘크리트는 산업폐기물을 재활용한 것이므로 경제적인 건설 소재가 될 수 있으며, 친환경적인 효과를 가져올 수 있기 때문에 현재 연구가 활발하게 이루어지고, 사용 영역이 확대 될 것으로 전망된다. 하지만 아직까지 PET재활용 폴리머콘크리트의 응력-변형률 거동에 관해서는 기초적인 연구상태에 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 폐 PET를 합성한 불포화 폴리에스터 수지를 폴리머콘크리트의 결합재로 이용하여 콘크리트를 제조하였으며, 수지량, 골재의 최대치수, 양생방법에 변화를 주었다. 그리고 변위제어가 가능한 M.T.S 장비를 사용하여 응력-변형률 곡선을 관찰하였다. 그 결과 PET 재활용 폴리머콘크리트의 압축강도는 수지의 함량, 굵은골재의 크기변화, 양생방법에 모두 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 탄성계수의 변화는 수지의 함량이 크게 좌우하였으며, 굵은골재의 최대치수와 양생방법에서 크게 영향을 받지 않았다. 최대응력에서의 변형률은 수지의 함량과 굵은골재의 최대치수에 영향을 많이 받는 것으로 나타났다.

콘크리트 재생 순환골재의 파쇄 효과에 따른 다짐 및 열저항 특성 연구 (Effect of Particle Breakage on Compaction and Thermal Resistivity of Concrete-based Recycled Aggregates)

  • 최근 친환경 건설에 대한 엄격한 규제와 가용한 천연골재 자원의 고갈에 따른 대안으로 전력구 되메움재로서 순환골재에 대한 관심이 급증하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 일반적인 되메움재인 강모래와 콘크리트 재생 순환골재를 대상으로 다짐에너지가 가해질 때, 발생하는 골재의 입자파쇄를 실내다짐시험을 통해 규명하였다. 적용된 다짐에너지 수준에서 일반 강모래는 입자파쇄가 미미하여 다짐 전후 골재의 다짐특성과 열저항의 변화가 매우 적었다. 반면에 일반 강모래에 비하여 순환골재는 재생과정에서 이미 입자에 큰 응력이 가해진 상태이므로 추가 다짐에너지에 의한 입자파쇄가 발생했다. 다짐에 의한 순환골재 입자파쇄는 세립분 양을 증가시켜 전반적으로 되메움재의 열저항을 감소시키고 입도곡선의 모양을 변화시켰다. 특히, 순환골재의 입자파쇄는 다짐에너지의 댐핑이 상대적으로 적은 저함수비 구간에서 더 뚜렷하게 발생하였다.
