  • This paper aims to explore the risk governance framework and socially viable solutions, attempting to provide guidance for the decision making process. The key idea of this study start with overcoming the limitations of IRGC risk governance framework, which mainly focuses on a comprehensive framework for risk governance. This article has employed SWOT analysis as a methodology, which is a strategic planning technique used to help identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to business competition or risk management. In this paper, socially viable solutions as an alternative plan place emphasis on the adoption of concern assessment through a concerns table. It is also proposed that scoping has to get introduced, with SWOT analysis in the process. The results of this paper support that multiple stakeholders have to participate in the process of identifying and framing risk and communicating with each other, considering the context. It should be noted that communities can become involved and take important parts in decision making process in various ways. It is recommended that engaging stakeholders to both risk assessment and risk management is material to dealing with risk in a socially viable way. It also implies that the community-based disaster management should be better prepared for the decision making process in socially viable solutions.

  • Recently, the population growth, industrial and agricultural development are rapidly undergoing in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) in Texas. The Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) composed of the 4 counties and three of them are interesting for Non-point and point source pollutant modeling: Starr, Cameron, and Hidalgo. Especially, the LRGV is an intensively irrigation region, and Texas A&M University Agriculture Program and the New Mexico State University College of Agriculture applied irrigation district program (Guy Fipps and Craig Pope, 1998), projects in GIS and Hydrology based agricultural water management systems and assessment of prioritized protecting stream network, water quality and rehabilitation based on water saving potential in Rio Grande River. In the LRGV region, where point and non-point sources of pollution may be a big concern, because increasing fertilizers and pesticides use and population cause. This project objective seeks to determine the accumulation of non-point and point source and discuss the main impacts of agriculture and environmental concern with water quality related to pesticides, fertilizer, and nutrients within LRGV region. The GIS technique is widely used and developed for the assessment of non-point source pollution in LRGV region. This project shows the losses in kg/$km^2$/year of BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), TN (total Nitrogen) and TP (total phosphorus) in the runoff from the surface of LRGV.

  • Purpose This study provided empirical support for the model that explain the formation of privacy concerns in the perspective of Information Boundary Theory. This study investigated an integrated model suggesting that privacy concerns are formed by the individual's disposition to value privacy, privacy awareness, awareness of privacy policy, and government legislation. The Information Boundary Theory suggests that the boundaries of information space dependends on the individual's personal characteristics and environmental factors of e-commerce. When receiving a request for personal information from e-commerce websites, an individual assesses the risk depending on the risk-control assessment, the perception of intrusion give rise to privacy concerns. Design/methodology/approach This study empirically tested the hypotheses with the data collected in a survey that included the items measuring the constructs in the model. The survey was aimed at university students. and a causal modeling statistical technique(PLS) is used for data analysis in this research. Findings The results of the survey indicated significant relationships among environmental factors of e-commerce websites, individual's personal privacy characteristics and privacy concerns. Both individual's awareness of institutional privacy assurance on e-commerce and the privacy characteristics affect the risk-control assessment towards information disclosure, which becomes an essential components of privacy concerns.

  • Background: The understanding of ecosystem services can be quantified and qualitative to assess the impacts of changes in the ecosystem to support human well-being. In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, sustainable use of ecosystem services has attracted the interest of a range of decision-makers. However, although there is a concern for biodiversity, natural ecosystem, and their services, linking ecosystems with conservation planning remains challenging. Results: This study assessed the first qualitative ecosystem services provided by the Mundok wetland with decision makers of the West/Yellow Sea region. Furthermore, this study applied the Rapid Assessment Wetland Ecosystem method to support natural resources management, improving living conditions. We identified that cultural and supporting services index are highly provided, but preparing a plan to increase the provisioning and regulating services in Mundok wetland is necessary. Conclusions: The assessment results can provide helpful information for ecosystem services assessment, habitat conservation, conservation planning, and decision-making at local level.

  • Many science educators concern about the problems of assessment using paper & pencil test. Performance assessment is believed to be a very promising alternatives to traditional assessment. Portfolio assessment, a kind of performance assessment, has many desirable characteristics to foster students' creativity and increase students' responsibility for their own learning. However few research study has been dealt with this assessment method and few teacher adopts this method in science class. The characteristics and structures of portfolio assessment were explored by reviewing related literatures. The appropriate portfolio assessment was designed based on the results of exploration. For our primary science class, general and specific objectives are needed, depending on the nature of the instructional topics. The children's evidences for portfolio may be limited in their forms because of insufficient learning materials and reproducing facilities in classrooms. Large portions of children's evidence should be collected during class hours to reduce burdens of children. The evaluation criteria may be holistic rather than analytical because of large class size. Portfolio assessment will bring about many changes in primary science classes. Students' have more responsibility in science learning. Teachers will focus major instructional objectives, and concern more about students' meaningful learning. Although portfolio assessment requires more work to teachers and children it could be applicable to our science classroom.

  • There is a concern that chemicals in our environment are affecting human health by disrupting a normal endocrine function. Much of the concern has focused on chemicals that can interact directly with steroid hormone receptors. The ability of certain man-made chemicals to mimic the effects of natural steroid hormones and their potential to disrupt the delicate balance of the endocrine system in animals are of increasing concern. • BACKGROUND: Prior to implementing a positive list system (PLS), there is a need to establish acceptable daily intake (ADI) and maximum residue limit (MRL) for veterinary drugs that have been approved a few decades ago in South Korea. On top of that, chronic dietary exposure assessment of veterinary drug residues should be performed to determine whether the use of these veterinary drugs would cause health concerns or not. METHODS AND RESULTS: To establish the ADI, the relevant toxicological data were collected from evaluation reports issued by international organizations. A slightly modified global estimate of chronic dietary exposure (GECDE) model was employed in the exposure assessment owing to the limited residual data. Therefore, only the ADI of ephedrine was established due to insufficient data for the other veterinary drugs. Thus, instead of ADI, the threshold of toxicological concern (TTC) value was used for the other drugs. Lastly, the hazard index (HI) was calculated, except for etizazole hydrochloride, due to the potential of mutagenicity. CONCLUSION(S): The HI values of ephedrine, menichlopholan, and anacolin were found to be as high as 6.4%, suggesting that chronic dietary exposure to the residues from these uses was unlikely to be a public health concern. Further research for exposure assessment of veterinary drug residues should be performed using up-todate Korean national health and nutrition examination survey (KNHANES) food consumption data. In addition, all relevant available data sources should be utilized for identifying the potentials of toxicity.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine level of individual foreign learners' quantitative knowledge of korean vocabulary through the Foreign Learners' Korean Vocabulary Knowledge Assessment and to propose a vocabulary education plan reflecting the result. This assessment was written in focus of semantic relation to identify category, integrated and analytical knowledge of Korean verbs acquired by foreign learners and as a result, the following educational implications were made. First, the learners' knowledge about the vocabulary combinational relationship was very limited. Second, learners are not interested in vocabulary's synonymous relation and antonymous relations. Lastly, there needs to be a concern about postpositional particle-use education. The results of these kinds of research, observes the learners vocabulary acquisition process to determine Korean textbook and present vocabulary level in appropriate in terms of learners' perspective, and provide an opportunity to check if current professors' method is adequate and valid.
