  • Every company tries to know who the best and idealistic customers are and how to identify them by use of the special methods. To solve this problem the diamond model of customer stratification, which is the conceptual model, is introduced in this research. We modified the customer stratification model developed by Narayanan et al. (2007). By use of this model we can find out the most profitable customers and then we can plan to improve the profitability of the rest customer groups.

  • In this paper, we propose a 7-phase life cycle model which applies to Computer Integrated Manufacturing systems. The model emphasizes product design and manufacturing design activities of CIM to secure the critical success factors of CIM systems such as high quality, adaptability, productivity, and flexibility. It is argued that the product design aspect would be divided into three phases-conceptual design, embodiment design, and detialed design. The conceptual design phase is to build a conceptual model of the product based on requirements and specifications which reflect "the voice of the customer". THe embodiment design phase utilizes specific design tools such as DFM, CAE, and CAD, and results in a concrete model of the product and parts. The detailed design phase is to crete a working prototype of the product and design tools such as DFA. CAD and CAM are employed in this phase. The output of the product design activity is to be the input for the manufacturing design activity. Using the proposed model, one can effectively and efficiently manufacture a high-quality, low-cost product with short delivery time, and above all achieve customer'ssatisfaction.isfaction.

  • This study is a literature study that analyzed the research data curation models using activity theory as a theoretical framework. Based on the factors of the activity used in the activity theory, this study analyzed various research data curation models, as well as issues that needed discussion in the library field in carrying out research data curation activities. And based on this, a new research data curation conceptual model was proposed. This study analyzed how the five previously proposed digital curation lifecycle models are configured, and analyzed the actions presented sporadically in each model. A new research data curation conceptual model was proposed by analyzing factors, extracting common factors and integrating them into a new model. In addition, six issues to be considered in carrying out research data curation activities in libraries and repositories were analyzed and discussed. The research data curation conceptual model proposed in this study consists of a total of 10 steps, and it contains practical issues and contradictions to consider at each stage of activity.

  • The purposes of this research are to search and analyze information theories which are useful to approach bibliotherapy in terms of 'therapeutic' readers' advisory service, and to propose a conceptual model of 'therapeutic' readers' advisory service on the basis of such theoretical foundations. To the end, Dervin's sense-making theory and Kuhlthau's ISP model are introduced and applied to the conceptual model. The conceptual model is profoundly based on Dervin's situation-gap-use metaphor and Kuhlthau's Uncertainty Principle.

  • Fallout ash is a notorious hazard that can have a variety of damages on agriculture and infrastructure and, most notably to aviation and human health. This study discusses the design of a conceptual model to aid in modeling the dispersal and deposition of ash from Mt. Baekdu volcano. It includes a discussion of assumptions and boundary conditions of the model as well as a detailed diagram of the conceptual model, complete with input parameters, units and equations. The two main processes contained within the model are the dispersal and deposition of ash, the outputs obtained from running the model, if designed, would be the total amount of fine ash contained in the eruption column, distance travelled by ash and ash thickness at surface.

  • The study aimed at exploring a direction of development of the conceptual model for organizing public digital records. First, it started with reviewing the possibility of item-oriented records and archival organization, then analyzed RIC-CM developed by ICA EGAD. Second, it investigated the hierarchies of the classes and descriptive information applied to public digital records, as well as showed the necessities of transition from paper-based model to digital-based one. Based on these, it studied to seek possibilities for organizing public digital records not by record groups but by items. Finally, this study proposed the direction of development of the next generation conceptual model for organizing public digital records.

  • In this study, university students were provided with repeated opportunities to represent their ideas graphically, and to examined via their drawings the extent to which they could visualize macroscopic phenomena microscopically. These drawings provided insight into the students' basic understanding of solution chemistry, revealing three conceptual models: the Undifferentiated Symbolic Model, the Particulate Model, and the Symbolic Ionic Model. Generally speaking, students who had poor conceptual understanding tended to exhibit the Undifferentiated Symbolic Model, whereas students with deeper understanding tended to employ the Symbolic Ionic Model. Students' conceptual comprehension was predictable from their graphical representations, which better elucidated what they actually comprehended about the phenomena, as opposed to their ambiguous verbal descriptions alone. The results of this study demonstrated a lack of development in university students' conceptions of solutions. Their weakness in understanding at the molecular-level became more obvious when they were asked to represent their ideas in drawings. Few students exhibited expert knowledge, and several common misconceptions were found, which indicated typical difficulties students have perceiving common phenomena at the molecular level. The findings of this study illustrate how eliciting graphical representations can be used to assess students' conceptual understandings.

  • A prototype design process visualization and guidance system, is being developed. Its purpose is to visualize the design process in more intuitive manner so that one can get an insight to the complicated aspects of the design process. By providing a tangible utility to the design process performed by the expert designers or guided by the system, novice designers will be greatly helped to learn how to approach a certain class of design. Not only as an analysis tool to represent the characteristics of the design process, the system will be useful also for learning design process. A design ontology is being developed to provide the system with a knowledge-base, representing designer's activities associated with various design information during the conceptual design process, and then to be utilized for a computer environment for design analysis and guidance. To develop the design ontology, a conceptual framework of design activity model is proposed, and then the model has been tested and elaborated through investigating the nature of the early conceptual design. A design process representation model is conceptualized based on the ontology, and reflected into the development of the system. This paper presents the development process of the visualization system, modeling of design process ontology, and how the system could be utilized for the analysis and learning of conceptual design methods using computer mediated design support environment.

  • Ecosystem health assessment is an emerging concept regarded as a useful diagnostic tool for evaluating ecosystems. The stability of ecosystem is the main theme in the assessment. Generally, two components - resilience and resistance - are involved in the mechanism of ecosystem stability. In this study, relative degrees of the resistance and the resilience were quantified for most aquatic Insects Inhabiting running waters in Korea. A total of 34 groups were newly categorized based on previous studies, and a conceptual model has been produced. The model was applied for the aquatic insect communities inhabiting different streams and demonstrated that each stream ecosystem possessed different degrees of stability. This study also indicated that it was possible to compare stabilities of different ecosystems using relative degrees of resilience and resistance. Using the conceptual model, suitable conservation and management strategies could be recommended in ecological assessments. The model can be used as a stepping-stone for developing more comprehensive methodology that objectively diagnoses and evaluates the ecosystem stability.

  • This paper discusses a reasoning model of information retrieval with a hierarchical thesaurus. The model computes the conceptual distance between a query and an object, both are indexed with weighted terms from a hierarchical thesaurus. The proposed model allows Boolean operators for user queries and edge weights for a hierarchical thesaurus. Experimental results have shown that the proposed model simulates, with surprising accuracy, people in the assessment of conceptual closeness between queries objects.
