A Study on a RAM-Based Model for Integrated Automatic Manufacturing System Design and Performance Evaluation (RAM 을 고려한 복합 생산시스템의 최적설계 및 평가방안의 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to develop a general design and performance evaluation model for the system designers in the initial design phase of the integrated automatic manufacturing system based on the RAM(Reliability, Availability and Maintainability) and life cycle cost(LCC). The methodology proposed in this research includes the following two stages. First, a deterministic approach to the solution of optimal work station arrangement for the initial system configuration is considered under the assumption that the system availability is one(no failure and maintenance), and then a stochastic simulation model based on RAM and LCC is developed. Using the results of these two stage simulation, a system performance index(SPI) was developed for the performance evaluation of the proposed system. Also a computer program is developed.

  • This paper presents an architecture and control logic of a Flexible Manufacturing Cell (FMC) which is one of the important elements under Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) environment. To implement FMC, it is very important to develop a software which can control and monitor the overall system in an integrated environment. Our primary concern in this research is not to develop individual systems, but to integrate them in the hierarchical control level. Progress on the research of integrating CAD/CAM, Process Planning, Off-line Robot Programming and Simulation module into FMC control system is reported. FMC hardware system used here has an Automated Storage & Retrieval System (AS/RS), a conveyor system, a transfer robot, a CNC milling machine, a bar-code system, and an IBM PC/AT as Cell Control System (CCS). In order to demonstrate the operational result, the name plates, text-carved aluminium plates, are manufactured by this system.

  • In this paper, an integrated system of optimal design, performance evaluation, and die design and manufacturing of axial fans for cooling tower is presented. The design and performance evaluation are developed based on three dimensional flow analysis so as to ensure low noise and high efficiency. The methodologies are implemented on computer as a GUI system including 3-D surface modeling and 2-D drawing file output modules. The CAD/CAM system is engaged to design the die and generate NC tool path, but the processes are also automated and integrated into the system by means of a part program coded from the design data. It is shown that the newly developed fans have superior performance and shortened lead-time compared to the existing dead-copied fans.

  • Point of Production/Manufacturing Execution Systems are an essential component of operations in today's competitive business environments, which require greater production efficiency and effectiveness. POP/MES focuses on the valuing-adding processes, helping to reduce manufacturing cycle time, improve product quality, reduce WIP, reduce or eliminate paperwork between shifts, reduce lead time and empowering plant operations staff. In this paper, we implement POP/MES to manage real-time plant floor data which is gathered by I/O server into database management system. I/O server is a software allows data exchange between factory real-time database and several hardware devices such as PLC, DCS, robot and sensor through ethernet TCP/IP protocol.

  • Computer Integrated Manufacturing(CIM) is a growing technology as a solution for the total automation of a manufacturing system. However, the implementation in the shop floor is extremely difficult due to many reasons. Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) is usually considered as a solution for the shop floor automation. One of the difficulties in FMS is the communications problem. Since various machinaries with different communications protocols are included, applying a unified scheme is almost impossible. Therefore, a systematic approach is a key point to solve the communication problem. A cell is defined as an automation unit where closely related for a job reside together. A cell is a messenger between upper level computers and lower level machine equipment. In this research, the functions of the cell are defined to have more capabilities than conventional cell since a cell can be often a total manufacturing system in a small to medium sized factory. The cell conducts communications with different machines through the communications schemes established here. A set of software system has been developed according to the defined communications. The software has been tested for a simulation and real experiments for proof.

  • A shop floor can be considered as and importand level to develop a Computer Integrated Manufacturing system (CIMs). The shop foor is a dynamic environment where unexpected events contrinuously occur, and impose changes to planned activities. The shop floor should adopt an appropriate control system that is responsible for scheduling coordination and moving the manufacturing material and information flow. In this paper, the architecture of the hybrid control model identifies three levels; i.e., the shop floor controller (SFC), the cell controller(CC) and the equipment controller (EC). The methodology for developing these controller is employ an object-oriented approach for static models and IDEF0 for function models for dispatching a job. SFC and CC are coordinated by employing a multi-factors bidding and an adapted Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) prove applicability of the suggested method. Test experiment has been conducted by with the shopfloor, consisting of six manufacturing cells.

  • 컴퓨터 기술의 급격한 발전은 현실세계의 각종 현장을 컴퓨터 가상공간 내에서 시험할 수 있도록 하고 있다. 최근들어급격한 발전이 이루어지고 있는 가상현실(Virtual Reality) 기술과 인간의 감성을 중시한 감성공학적 접근방법 론의 활용은 그 적용범위가 점차 확대되어 가고 있는 상황으로, 제조기업에서 사용되고 있는 통합생산 정보시스템 (Computer Integrated Manufacturing)과의 접목으로 가상공장(Virtual Factory) 시스템을 구현할 수가 있다. 가상공장시스 템은 제조기업의 Businiss를 Design & Engineering, Production Planning & Control, Manufacturing의 3가지 프로세스로 분류한다. 그리고 각 프로세스별로 현재의 CIM시스템에 대한 하부시스템을 검토하고, 인간 중심의 가상기업시스템을 구현 하는데 보완이 되어야 할 사항과 이에 대한 해결 대안으로 Design & Engineering Process에서는 Virtual Engineering(VE) Sub-system, Manufacturing Process에서는 Virtual Manufacturing(VM) Sub-system으로 분류하여 각 Sub-system별 구성모듈을 설계하고 상호간의 Interface 사항을 설계하므로서 가상공장시스템 구현을 위한 기본 요구사항과 조건을 제시하고자 한다.

Developing Integrated Compressor Cooler System of 3D Printing Nozzle (3D 프린팅 노즐의 일체형 압출기 쿨링 시스템 개발)

  • In a large 3D printer when the cooler, which cools the filament, acts in one direction, the area directly exposed to the cooling is cooled to the proper temperature. However, the cooling effect on the opposite area is relatively less. It was found in experiments that filaments with a thickness of over 2 mm exhibit the cooling problem in one directional cooling. Consequently, cooling was performed to prevent the flow-down and to produce firm support leading to an improvement in product quality in extrusion. Further, the lay-up of a 3D printer with five guides combined with a duct was achieved. Analysis showed that the improvement in the cooling effect enables stable extrusion and lay-up and thus, reduces fabrication time.

  • The role of CIMS(Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems) is to integrate various applications throughout a product's life cycle. STEP is an international effort to standardize information models and interfaces so that independently developed applications can be easily integrated. A prototype for the Ship CIMS is built using STEP. In this prototype, the information model defined by EXPRESS is translated into database schemas. In this paper, we explain the operation of this prototype using the examples from two application programs, i.e., the Block Division System and the Erection System which are used for the process planning of ship manufacturing. As an example. Real data stored in a relational database system(Oracle) is presented in this paper.
