A Data-driven Approach for Computational Simulation: Trend, Requirement and Technology

  • With the emergence of a new paradigm called Open Science and Big Data, the need for data sharing and collaboration is also emerging in the computational science field. This paper, we analyzed data-driven research cases for computational science by field; material design, bioinformatics, high energy physics. We also studied the characteristics of the computational science data and the data management issues. To manage computational science data effectively it is required to have data quality management, increased data reliability, flexibility to support a variety of data types, and tools for analysis and linkage to the computing infrastructure. In addition, we analyzed trends of platform technology for efficient sharing and management of computational science data. The main contribution of this paper is to review the various computational science data repositories and related platform technologies to analyze the characteristics of computational science data and the problems of data management, and to present design considerations for building a future computational science data platform.

  • In this paper, a model is proposed to comprehensively evaluate the computational power. The five forces model of computational power solves the problem that the measurement units of different indexes are not unified in the process of computational power evaluation. It combines the bidirectional projection method with TOPSIS method. This model is more scientific and effective in evaluating the comprehensive situation of computational power. Lastly, an example shows the validity and practicability of the model.

  • 지구온난화 증가에 따른 교토협약으로 전 세계적으로 녹색 신 재생에너지에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 철도, 도로, 지하철 등 터널 내에서 상상을 초월하는 차량의 진동 소음으로 인한 소모에너지를 음력 발전을 통하여 에너지를 하베스팅 하는 녹색사회기반시설 시스템을 구축하기 위해 전자기유도를 활용한 자체적인 소음발전 디바이스를 적용하여 실제 사회기반시설의 종류별 소음특성에 따른 소음발전 디바이스의 적용성 및 효율성을 분석하였다. 실험결과 소음발전 디바이스는 특정 진동수의 소음에서 최대 전압 및 전력을 나타냈으며, 소음원으로부터의 거리 및 소음의 음압에 따라 발생하는 전압 및 전력이 특정한 관계를 가진다는 사실을 확인하였다.

  • A framework of multi layered database is proposed for the integrated operation of civil infrastructure information in this study. The multi-layered database is a logically integrated database composed of standardized information layers. The framework of multi-layered database is defined by three axes, national assets, lifetime, and data levels. The axis of national assets indicates civil infrastructures such as bridges, dams, tunnels and power plants that can be considered as national key structures. The axes of lifetime and data levels indicate the standardized information layers generated from the life-phase of civil infrastructure and the priority of data in the information layers, respectively. The standardized information layers are basically composed of reusable data sets defined by information models. A prototype of standard database for steel bridges is constructed based on the framework as a proof of concept. Demonstration examples such as data consistency check and automatic generation of a FEA model show that the proposed concept can assure the sustainable interoperability of civil infrastructure information as well as design information of steel bridges.

노반, 궤도분야 철도인프라 BIM 원형 라이브러리 구축 (A Development of Railway Infrastructure BIM Prototype Libraries for Roadbed and Track)

  • BIM 설계에서 라이브러리의 구축 및 활용은 매우 중요하다. 기존 컨텐츠의 재활용이 가능하므로, 설계를 보다 효과적이고 효율적으로 진행할 수 있다. 건축분야와 달리 토목분야, 특히 철도시설분야에서는 라이브러리의 구축 및 표준화가 미진하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 철도시설분야에 3차원 객체 라이브러리를 구축하고 표준화하고자 한다. 철도시설물 분류체계 및 관련도면을 수집 및 분석한다. 분석된 표준도면의 항목과 분류체계 항목을 매칭하였다. 각 항목별로 라이브러리가 필요한지 여부와 그럴 경우 어떤 소프트웨어가 적절한지를 검토하였다. 사용가능한 소프트웨어는 주로 Civil 3D와 Revit 등으로 나타났다. 향후 이를 바탕으로 철도인프라 3차원 라이브러리의 속성 항목 및 명세서를 설계하고 라이브러리를 구축할 예정이다.

  • In this study, we analyzed applicability of object database, designed the concept model based on object-oriented idea for measurement data management, and applied the design model to object database. The concept model composes three sub models Infrastructure managing information model, Infrastructure measurement data model, and Measurement unit model. The process to expand measurement data of new type was executed easily without changing database schema in object database. Therefore, applicability of new technology to infrastructures for building a safety management network of road bridges could be increased with object database system.

Optimal fin planting of splayed multiple cross-sectional pin fin heat sinks using a strength pareto evolutionary algorithm 2

  • This research aims to demonstrate the optimal geometrical design of splayed multiple cross-sectional pin fin heat sinks (SMCSPFHS), which are a type of side-inlet-side-outlet heat sink (SISOHS). The optimiser strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm2 (SPEA2)is employed to explore a set of Pareto optimalsolutions. Objective functions are the fan pumping power and junction temperature. Function evaluations can be accomplished using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) analysis. Design variablesinclude pin cross-sectional areas, the number of fins, fin pitch, thickness of heatsink base, inlet air speed, fin heights, and fin orientations with respect to the base. Design constraints are defined in such a way as to make a heat sink usable and easy to manufacture. The optimum results obtained from SPEA2 are compared with the straight pin fin design results obtained from hybrid population-based incremental learning and differential evolution (PBIL-DE), SPEA2, and an unrestricted population size evolutionary multiobjective optimisation algorithm (UPSEMOA). The results indicate that the splayed pin-fin design using SPEA2 issuperiorto those reported in the literature.

  • Computational Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that provides architecture, engineering, and construction professionals the insight to plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure more efficiently. This paper aims at using BIM in Hospitals configurations protection. Infrastructure projects are classified as huge structural projects taking advantage of many resources such as finance, materials, human labor, facilities and time. Immense expenses in infrastructure programs should be allocated to estimating the expected results of these arrangements in domestic economy. Hence, the significance of feasibility studies is inevitable in project construction, in this way the necessity in promoting the strategies and using global contemporary technologies in the process of construction maintenance cannot be neglected. This paper aims at using the building information modeling in covering Imam Khomeini Hospital's equipment. First, the relationship between hospital constructions maintenance and repairing, using the building information modeling, is demonstrated. Then, using library studies, the effective factors of constructions' repairing and maintenance were collected. Finally, the possibilities of adding these factors in Revit software, as one of the most applicable software within BIM is investigated and have been identified in some items, where either this software can enter or the software for supporting the repairing and maintenance phase lacks them. The results clearly indicated that the required graphical factors in construction information modeling can be identified and applied successfully.

Preferences for Supercomputer Resources Using the Logit Model

  • Public research, which requires large computational resources, utilizes the supercomputers of the National Supercomputing Center in the Republic of Korea. The average utilization rate of resources over the past three years reached 80%. Therefore, to ensure the operational stability of this national infrastructure, specialized centers have been established to distribute the computational demand concentrated in the national centers. It is necessary to predict the computational demand accurately to build an appropriate resource scale. Therefore, it is important to estimate the inflow and outflow of computational demand between the national and specialized centers to size the resources required to construct specialized centers. We conducted a logit model analysis using the probabilistic utility theory to derive the preferences of individual users for future supercomputer resources. This analysis shows that the computational demand share of specialized centers is 59.5%, which exceeds the resource utilization plan of existing specialized centers.

생명정보인프라 이용에 관한 연구 (A Study on Use of Bioinformatics Infrastructure)

  • 한국과학기술정보연구원(KISTI) CCBB(Center for Computational Biology & Bioinformatics) 웹사이트에서는 IT 기반의 생명정보 인프라 구축을 위해 생명정보 콘텐트(DB, 분석도구) 21종을 구축 서비스하고 있다. 또한, 국내 생명정보 연구개발 지원 및 인프라 조성을 위한 업무를 수행하고 있다. 하지만 CCBB에 대한 인식이 널리 확산되어 있지 않아 CCBB에서 구축하고 개발된 생명정보 콘텐트가 활발히 이용되지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 생명과학 분야의 연구자를 대상으로 이용자조사를 실시하였다. 조사내용은 생명정보 데이터 베이스 및 분석도구 이용에 관한 내용과 생명과학 연구학술정보 네트워크(BioInfoNet)에 관한 내용으로 구성하였다. 설문조사를 통해 나타난 결과는 정리 분석한 후 이용자들이 필요로 하는 데이터베이스, 분석도구 등 생명정보 인프라를 제공하는데 활용될 것이다.
