  • Feature-based modeling and history-based modeling are the two main paradigms that are used in most of current CAD systems. Although these modeling paradigms make it easier for designers to create solid model, it may pose dependency constraints on features that are interacting one with another. When editing such features, these constraints often cause unpredictable and unacceptable results. For example, when a parent feature is deleted, the child features of the parent feature are also deleted. This entails re-generations of the deleted features, which requires additional modeling time. In order to complement this situation, we propose a method to delete only the features of interest by disconnecting the dependency constraints. This method can provide designers with more efficient way of model modification.

  • The goal of this paper is to develop a rational static method which consider efficiently the dynamic effect of the gravity load following sudden removal of element. For this goal this paper introduce the equivalent load for element stiffness which is a preceding research result and will develop equivalent static analysis which will be able to predict the maximum behavior considering dynamic effect. Some examples are provided to verify it. Equivalent static analysis is compared with the analysis method which is recommended by the GSA2003 guidelines and the time-history analysis which is the most accurate for dynamic behavior.

  • According to previous research, welding-induced residual stresses in steel structures can significantly affect the fatigue behaviour. Usually, high tensile residual stresses up to the yield strength are conservatively assumed at the weld toes. This conservative assumption can result in misleading fatigue assessments. Thee welding-induced residual stresses need be known in advance for a reliable fatigue assessment, which becomes possible to an increasing extent by numerical welding simulation. In this study, a fatigue Analysis technique for steel structures with welding induced residual stress is presented. First, We calculate the history of temperature according with welding process. Secondly, residual stress with a welding thermal history was evaluated by non-linear thermal stress analysis and lastly, fatigue strength is estimated with modified Goodman equation which can consider the effect of mean stress level.

  • Nonlinear dynamic time history analysis of a structure with energy dissipation devices is complicated and time consuming. In this regard the nonlinear static analysis is a practical alternative for evaluating the earthquake resisting capacity of a structure. In this study the nonlinear static response of a structure was obtained first, and the equivalent viscous modal damping ratio required to satisfy the performance objective was computed in the capacity spectrum format. Then proper amount of viscous dampers were installed to provide the required damping. Parametric study has been performed for the period of the structure, yield strength, and the stiffness after the first yield. According to the earthquake time history analysis results, the maximum displacement of the model structure with viscous dampers designed in accordance with the proposed method corresponds well with the target displacements that was used in the beginning of the design process.

  • Engineering change (EC) objects are the data structure and related operations that can support applications for EC procedures or processes. Their functionalities include controlling management data, specifying related product structure, and archiving a history of product structure changes for EC management. In this paper we introduce a systematic approach to support the propagation of changes between different product structure views using the history of structure changes in EC objects. The change propagations supported by EC objects enable designers to maintain the consistency of multiple product structure views for engineering, manufacturing or even customer support applications. This paper also includes EC examples and experimental implementations for the proposed EC objects.

  • This paper discusses the acoustic performance of simple expansion chamber using computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The CFD model consists of an axisymmetric grid with a single period sinusoid of acceptable amplitude and duration imposed at the inlet boundary condition. The time history of the static pressure is recorded at two points, one in the inlet pipe and one point in outlet pipe. The time history of the static pressure is converted to the frequency domain using Fourier Transform and the transmission loss (TL) of the muffler is obtained from the ratio of the static pressure at the inlet and outlet pipe. The transmission loss of CFD result is compared with that of the computational acoustic analysis using the boundary element method (BEM). There are some differences in two results due to the pressure drop according to the inlet and outlet pipe length. Therefore, the effects of the pressure drop to the transmission loss have to be considered.

  • Differential shortening of vertical members in high-rise buildings affect other structural members that have to be considered such as horizontal members and exterior cladding. of many elements which affect the total amount of shortening, different loading history mainly comes from the different construction time. Shortening of 66 story concrete columns were investigated and compared according to the different construction time, little difference was found between the total shortening of interior and that of exterior column.

  • In this study the fire, due to overturning of oil tanker on the bridge induced heat transfer analysis and thermal stress analysis are carried out. The results of analysis for fire history of 1 hour present very large thermal gradient near the surface. However, the temperature increase of tendon & rebar that is the main resistant member of bridge is not sufficient to change material properties. The Von-Mises yield criteria is used to calculate the depth of delamination, The depth of delamination is about 4cm at center of fire and this value is close to measured value.

  • This study is for seismic analysis of building structures with ambiguous modal direction This case is revealed symmetrical building structure or the structure that isn't coincided building axis with physical axis. Seismic analysis-time history analysis, response spectrum analysis and lateral force procedure-is carried out. It is concluded that analysis method for the structure with ambiguous modal direction don't suitable for lateral force procedure. It is recommended to use the CQC method for combining modal responses to the individual components and the SRSS rule for combining responses to the two horizontal components are of nearly equal intensities.

  • Near field ground motions contain distinct and large amplitude pulses in both velocity and displacement. This paper investigates characteristics of near field earthquakes and their effects on seismic demands. 20 EQGMs were selected for this purpose that satisfied 5 conditions for Near field motion. Among them ten EQGMs have one distinct peak velocity pulse in the velocity time history. In this study the responsed are Linear Elastic Response Spectrum(LERS), Response Modification Factor(R) and Inelastic Response Spectrum(IRS). The effect of the selection of Near field EQGMs on these response parameters are investigated.
