  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to impact of force system change in finger spring that add helical coil one round on orthodontic force. Methods: The following conclusions were drawn from the experiment conducted after bending 90 samples with a CNC wire forming machine while changing the height and lumen size to 1mm - 3mm - 5mm and 2mm - 3mm - 4mm respectively in the coil of the force system in finger spring added with one wheel of helical coil of 18-8 stainless steel round wire (${\Phi}0.5mm$, spring hard) from Jinsung Co. in domestic market under the following conditions: Laboratory name = Instron 5942; Temperature($deg^{\circ}C$) = 18.00; Humidity(%) = 50.00; Rate 1 = 10.00000 mm/min; Compressive extension = 5.0mm. Results: When Coil height is 1, 3, 5mm and lumen size is 2, 3, 4mm reduce finger spring as mean value of compressive extension occasion maximum load(mN) increases as coil height rises, and lumen size grows to 5.0mm. And was expose that compressive load(mN) increases as coil position of finger spring rises and increase as lumen size is decrescent. Conclusion: As the adherence height of coil was raised from 1mm through 3mm to 5mm, compressive load increased. As the lumen size increased from 2mm through 3mm to 4mm, compressive load decreased. Therefore, these results suggest that it is desirable to lower the coil height and enlarge the lumen size to enhance the biomechanical efficiency of finger spring when manufacturing the finger spring for removable orthodontic devices.

  • Coil spring steels from the automobile suspension part after field exposure for 10 years and those after anti-corrosion validation test in proving ground of 5,000 ~ 10,000 km were examined for corrosion damages. Partial loss of paint, accumulation of corrosion product, and cracking of paint and superficial material were observed. The surface and subsurface region of spring steels had compressive residual stress and high hardness by shot peening. The surface hardness values of the specimens were 620 ~ 670 Hv. They were 60 ~ 80 Hv higher than those of the samples taken from the middle part of the spring. The maximum compressive stress was -916 ~ -1208 MPa measured at depth of about $100{\mu}m$. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed that the resistances of charge transfer and the paint layer of the spring steels ranged from several tens to millions ${\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$. The resistance of the field samples was much higher than that of the proving ground samples used in this study, implying that the proving ground test condition would be more corrosive than the field environment.

  • Springs for vehicle suspension control the vibration of a car and influence on the ridability, safety, and life of a car. in the paper, the computer aided design program has been developed, which design the leaf spring shape from the given specifications using basic theory and the expert\`s knowledge, and the design results are checked by the analysis theory in order to increase the accuracy, and feed back to the design input. For the purpose of easy use, this program consists of pull-down menu and interactive input mode. To prove the effectiveness of this program, two springs, of which one is symmetric, other asymmetric, are designed and analyzed, and the outputs are compared to the experiments. Considering the tolerance of the given specifications, the results are good.

  • The requirements of coil spring fer higher fatigue strength have been increased to achieve the weight reduction of a vehicle. As the possible increase in fatigue strength by using the conventional shot peening treatment is found to be limited, it is necessary to modify the shot peening treatment. The warm shot peening is a shot peening treatment carried out within warm temperature range. The aim of this paper is to analyze some experimental results concerned with the effect of warm shot peening and to discuss the mechanism of warm shot peening in detail. By the results of rotating bending fatigue test, the fatigue strength of test specimen increases up to 23.8% in the production condition of warm shot peening at 200$\^{C}$ compared with conventional shot peening. The major reason why the warm shot peening is effective to the improvement of fatigue strength is the increase of a compressive residual stress distribution, which can be caused by more effective deformation under the condition of warm temperature.

  • When the values of design variables change, mode switching can often occur. If the mode of interest is not tracked, the frequencies and modes for design optimization may be miscalculated owing to modes that differ from the intended ones. Thus, mode tracking must be employed to identify the frequencies and modes of interest whenever the values of design variables change during optimization. Furthermore, reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) must be performed for design problems with design variables containing uncertainty. In this research, we perform RBDO considering the mode tracking of a compressive coil spring, i.e., a component of the joint spring that supports a compressor, with design variables containing uncertainty by using only kriging metamodels based on multiple responses approach (MRA) without existing mode tracking methods. The reliability analyses for RBDO are employed using kriging metamodel-based Monte Carlo simulation.
