Pc1/EMIC waves observed at subauroral latitude during sudden magnetospheric compressions

  • It is generally accepted that sudden compressions of the magnetosphere cause electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) wave growth by increasing the proton temperature anisotropy. These compression-associated EMIC waves are expected to be on higher latitudes (i.e., higher-L regions close to the magnetopause). In this study we examine Pc1 pulsations, which are believed to be generated by the EMIC instability, observed at subauroral latitude near the nominal plasmapause when the magnetosphere is suddenly compressed by solar wind dynamic pressure variations, using induction magnetometer data obtained from Athabasca, Canada (geomagnetic latitude = 61.7 N, L ~ 4.5). We identified 9 compression-associated Pc1 waves with frequencies of ~0.5-2.0 Hz. The wave activity appears in the horizontal H (positive north) and D (positive eastward) components. All of events show low coherence between H and D components. This indicates that the Pc1 pulsations in H and D oscillate with a different frequency. Thus, we cannot determine the polarization state of the waves. We will discuss the occurrence location of compression-associated Pc1 pulsations, their spectral structure, and wave properties.

유도 브릴루앙 산란에 의한 펄스 압축 과정에서의 Peak Power 반사율과 위상공액도 (Peak Power Reflectivity and Phase Conjugation Fidelity in a Pulse Compression Process by Stimulated Brillouin Scattering)

  • 유도 브릴루앙 반사광을 고출력 레이저에 응용할 때 요구되는 반사광 특성이 실험적으로 조사되었다. 집속 렌즈의 초점거리에 따른 유도 브릴루앙 반사광의 peak power 반사율과 위상공액도가 측정되었다. 또한 반사광 가운데 펄스압축된 부분만의 위상공액도가 측정되었다. 초점거리가 긴 경우(f=100cm) 반사광의 peak power가 입사광의 약 2배에 이르렀다. 이때 반사광 중에서 압축된 선두펄스만의 위상공액도는 약 90%로 다른 시간의 펄스보다 위상공액도가 우수했다. 공간적으로는 유도 브릴루앙 이득이 가장 큰 광축부분의 바사관이 최대의 펄스압축, peak power 반사율, 위상공액도를 보여서 유도 브릴루앙 산란을 응용할 때 가장 유용한 부분으로 확인되었다.

  • The numerical simulations on the train entering a tunnel are performed by solving unsteady axi-symmetric problems. To reduce the effects of the pressure wave generated by the train starting abruptly, several starting methods of the train are examined. The high order velocity increase gives better results than those for the linear velocity increase. The high order velocity increase gives good results for the pressure rise by the train entering a tunnel, too. The distance to the train reaches the highest running velocity from the start should be more than 60 m when the train speed is 350 km/h.

  • In this study, a experimental method has been introduced for the various exhaust pipe geometry of 4-stroke single engine. The main experimental parameters are the variation of exhaust pipe diameters and lengths, to measuring the pulsating flow when the intake and exhaust valves are working, As the results of experimental test, the various exhaust geometry were influenced strongly on the exhaust pressure. As the exhaust pipe diameter was decreased, the amplitude and the number of compression wave in exhaust pressure was increased. According to decreasing pipe diameter, the number of compression wave in exhaust pressure was decreased. When the pipe diameter was increase, the second amplitude was increased.

러브파의 위상속도 분산정보에 관한 해석적 연구 (Analytical Study for dispersed Phase Velocity Information of Love Waves)

  • This paper investigated the dispersion characteristics of horizontal surface waves as means to apply conversional SASW techniques. To verify this proposal, 3D finite element analysis and Transfer matrix solution were performed. SH wave(Love waves) has the some advantages in comparison with Rayleigh wave. Representatively, Love wave has a characteristics not affected by compression wave. These characteristics have the robust applicability for the surface wave investigation techniques. In this study, for the purpose of employing Love wave in the SASW method, the dispersion characteristics of the Love wave was extensively investigated by the theoretical and numerical approaches. The 3-D finite element and transfer matrix analyses for the half space and two-layer systems were performed to determine the phase velocities from Love wave as well as from both the vertical and the horizontal components of Rayleigh wave. Preliminary, numerical simulations and theoretical solutions indicated that the dispersion characteristics of horizontal surface wave(Love waves) can be sufficiently sensitive and appliable to SASW techniques.

SSI해석을 통한 압축전담 교량 내진보강공법 거동 특성 연구 (Behavior Characteristics of Compression-Only Bridge Seismic Reinforcement Method Using SSI Analysis)

  • In this study, the reinforcement effect of the compression-only bridge seismic reinforcement method, which is mainly applied to old bridges, was studied through SSI analysis. As the analysis conditions, acceleration magnitudes of 0.1g, 0.15g, and 0.2 g were applied, and long-period and short-period seismic waves were applied. As a result of the analysis according to the assumed ground characteristics and structure size, the horizontal displacement at the reinforced section was reduced by about 9%, and the long-period seismic wave had a 95% larger displacement than the short-period seismic wave. In addition, an increase in acceleration of 0.1g resulted in a displacement of about 50%, and a large increase in displacement was observed in long-period seismic waves. As a result of the analysis, in the case of the compression-only bridge seismic reinforcement method, there was a reinforcing effect, so the field applicability was excellent.

  • This paper describes ECG data compression algorithm using neural network. As a learning method, we use back error propagation algorithm. ECG data compression is performed using learning ability of neural network. CSE database, which is sampled 12bit digitized at 500samp1e/sec, is selected as a input signal. In order to reduce unit number of input layer, we modify sampling ratio 250samples/sec in QRS complex, 125samples/sec in P & T wave respectively. hs a input pattern of neural network, from 35 points backward to 45 points forward sample Points of R peak are used.

Protection Assessment using Reduced Power System Fault Data

  • Wavelet transforms provide basis functions for time-frequency analysis and have properties that are particularly useful for the compression of analogue point on wave transient and disturbance power system signals. This paper evaluates the compression properties of the discrete wavelet transform using actual power system data. The results presented in the paper indicate that reduction ratios up to 10:1 with acceptable distortion are achievable. The paper discusses the application of the reduction method for expedient fault analysis and protection assessment.

  • A helical vane is applied to reduce the magnitude of the impulse wave discharged from the exit of a duct. A shock tube with an open end is used to investigate the effect of the helical vanes on the impulse wave magnitude. Four different types of helical vanes are installed into the low-pressure tube of shock tube. The magnitude of the incident shock wave is varied below 1.25, and the magnitude of impulse wave is measured using a pressure transducer mounted on a wedge probe. Instant images of the impulse wave are obtained by means of the Schlieren optical method. The present experimental results show that the helical vane considerably reduces the magnitude of the impulse wave and the vane effects are more remarkable for stronger incident shock wave.

  • 본 연구는 2차원 Compression Corner에서의 초음속 유동의 특성에 관한 수치적 해석을 목적으로 한다. 고속 유동에 관한 연구에 따르면 Compression corner에서 Peak pressure와 Recirculation region이 Flow velocity와 Corner angle에 의하여 크게 영향을 받는 다는 것을 알게 되었다. 지정된 Mach number에서 Corner angle을 $8^{\circ}{\sim}24^{\circ}$로 변화시켜 가면서 Supersonic flow에서 유동해석을 하였다. EDISON을 사용한 Compression Corner 유동해석 결과를 건국대학교 In-house code 'k-flow'를 이용한 결과, 실험 결과와 비교분석하였다.
