Evaluation of the Energy Efficiency of the Air Engine (공기 엔진의 에너지 효율 평가)

  • Nowadays, many people are trying to develop eco-friendly engines such as the electric motor and the air engine because the I.C. engine cause a lot of pollutants. Nevertheless of these effort, there are few evaluation and comparison of these engines to conventionally used I.C. engines. Because of this, it is difficult to determine that the eco-friendly engines are really energy saving engines. In this paper, the efficiency of the air engine is calculated. The air engine does not cause environmental pollution problem because it uses "Compressed air". Due to the air engine operated at a low temperature and spark-free condition, this engine can be used in extreme condition for safety. Despite the many advantages of the air engine, there are few analysis on the air engine because of an air engine is low energy density.

Evaluation test of applicability of Compressed Air Foam fire extinguishing system for train fire at rescue station in Subsea tunnel (해저터널 구난역 열차화재시 압축공기포(Compressed Air Foam) 소화설비의 적용성 평가 실험)

  • Recently, a mega project such as Korea-China or Korea-Japan undersea tunnel project has been emerged for detail discussion and the interest in undersea tunnel is on the rise. More severe damage by train fire is expected in undersea tunnel comparing to ground tunnel and thus the study on more efficient fire extinguishing system, besides existing disaster prevention design is underway. To that end, a full-scale fire tests using CAF fire extinguishing system which has been developed by modifying traditional foam fire extinguishing system for fire suppression at rescue station in timely manner were conducted over 7 times. The test was conducted after setting the rescue station in virtual tunnel with a car of KTX. As a result of using compressed air foam directly to the fire source, 30 liter of Heptane combustibles was extinguished within 1 minutes. Applicability of compressed air foam to train fire at rescue station in undersea tunnel was has been proven and further study is considered required while changing the nozzle angle and location so as to achieve quick and easy extinguishing goal, making use of the advantage of CAF, as well as to reduce the fire water and chemicals required.

Measurement of the Displacement Currents Induced by the Monolayers on the Water surface of KUHN Type LB Apparatus (KUHN형 LB장치의 수면상에 전개된 단분자막의 변위전류 측정)

  • On this paper, the structural changes of molecules on the water surface were monitored by the measuring system of displacement currents. The measuring system was constructed at home-made Kuhn type LB(Langmuir -Blodgett) deposition apparatus. Solutions of 4-octyl -4\\`- (5-car boxy$.$ -pentamethyleneoxy) azobenzene molecules (8A5H) and stearic acid(C$\_$18/) were spreaded at the air-water interface respectively, and the currents inducted by the dynamic behavior of molecules were measured when the molecules were the molecules were pressed by barrier. From C$\_$18/ mo1ecules two distinct peaks of displacement currents were obtained, which show that the orientations of mo1ecules were charged largely at these Points. The reversibility of displacement currents by compression and expansion was obtained from 8A5H molecules, which shows the compressed molecules which shows the compressed molecules have a tendency to disperse after the compression. But it was not obtained from C$\_$18/ molecules which means that this molecules disperse not easily by decreasing the pressure of the barrier.

An Experimental Study on Lean-burn Limit and Emission Characteristics of Air-fuel Ratio in a CNG Engine (수소-CNG 혼소기관의 공기과잉률 변화에 따른 희박가연한계 및 배출가스 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the world faces the environmental problem such as air pollution due to harmful gas discharged from car and abnormal climate due to the green-house gases increased by the discharge of $CO_2$. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), one of alternative for this problem, is less harmful, compared to the existing fossil fuel, as gaseous fuel, and less carbon in fuel ingredients and carbon dioxide generation rate relatively favorable more than the existing fuel. However, CNG fuel has the weakness of slow flame propagation speed and difficult fast burn. On the other hand, hydrogen does not include carbon in fuel ingredients, and does not discharge harmful gas such as CO and HC. Moreover, it has strength of quick burning velocity and ignition is possible with small ignition energy source and it's has wide Lean Flammability Limit. If using this hydrogen with CNG fuel, the characteristics of output and discharge gas is improved by the mixer's burning velocity improved, and, at the same time, is possible to have stable lean combustion with the reduction of $CO_2$ expected. Therefore, this research tries to identify the characteristics of engine and emission gas when mixing CNG fuel and hydrogen in each portion and burning them in spark igniting engine, and grasp the lean combustion limit and emission gas characteristics according and use it as the basic data of hydrogen-CNG premixed engine.

  • A disc-type rotary atomizer affords advantages such as superior paint transfer efficiency, uniformity of paint pattern and particle size, and less consumption of compressed air compared to a spray-gun-type atomizer. Furthermore, it can be applied to all types of painting materials, and it is suitable for large-scale processes such as car painting. The painting quality, which is closely related to the atomizer performance, is determined by the uniformity and droplet size in accordance with the design of the bell disc surface. This study establishes the basics of how to design a surface by modeling the operating bell disc's RPM, diameter, surface angle, and film thickness considering dye characteristics such as the viscosity, density, and surface affinity.
